I saw it the other night and I rather enjoyed it.
Its tone reminded me somewhat of Hellboy, which I also enjoyed. As to the comic, I've not read that particular one so I can't make a comparison.

I saw it last week...it was not the best movie but i watched it as just entertainment. im not christian so the stuff about the Spear of Destiny i really didnt follow to closely...but Keanu's acting is just like that in Matrix. He can only handle one liners and there were scenes when he was actually sarcastic/funny.
Btw, i saw an earlier post bout Gavin Rossdale...whose that? |

So Keanu actually showed up for this one? When he's on, he's OK - nothing to write home about, but pretty solid - but when he's off, he's wretched.

As stated somewhere above I think, the big fuss was that Constantine in the comics is a blond Englishman, and a very deep character. Keanu Reeves isn't blond, English, or deep personality wise, at least when acting. But like I said before, the movie wasn't a bad crack at bringing the comic to the big screen, Keanu and all.

I saw it and was thoroughly entertained. I'm a Jew, but all these notions of heaven and hell fascinate me. The storyline was sweet, the effects rocked, and the guy who played Satan was awesome.
Also, stop complaining about Keanu Reeves. We all know he's made some shitty movies (with the exception of Point Break...Fuck you! It was awesome!), but come on. He found his niche, he's making his millions, more power to him. I think we should be far more concerned with ridding movies of such people as Ja Rule. |

I too am surprised at how much people are bagging Keanu on this one, I think it's something a lot of people are doing because it's the 'cool' thing to do. Keanu did a wonderful job in this role and made it quite believable, I know he differs a bit from the original Constantine but what he and the movie tried to make him out to be he did successfully.
I too am always facinated by the struggles of heaven and hell, and I love dark subject matter, the way everything was executed here was remarkable. Francis Lawrence is a hell of a director, every shot oozed style and not in an MTV sort of way, a more David Fincher sort of way. Can't wait to see future projects helmed by this guy. |

I saw it, and I want to exicute every mother fucker involved in it. Even getting past they way they pissed all over the comic book, it was total shit. My firend who saw it with me didn't even know it was based on a comic book untill I told him, and he thought it was crap. Weak plot, bad casting, worse acting. Shit, shit, shit, and more shit. Someone, please kill Reeves before he makes another movie.

I think they are baggin on him because he can't act his way out of a wet paper bag. The only movie he was ever any good in was Bill and Ted. Everything else the guy has done, he has SUCKED at. Any movie that he has been in that was good, was good because of of script and supporting actors, and every movie has done could be improved by casting a dead raoch in his role.

I enjoyed Constantine...but I think it would have been better with any actor other than Keanu.
I agree with Seer666...Keanu cannot act for anything. Keanu was decent, but a good actor would have made it a huge movie, in my opinion.

i liked it. not top notch, but quite entertaining.
in case it was missed earlier, gavin rosdale was balthazaar. and i think keanu wasn't a bad choice. constantine was supposed to be a cynical, dry, rather emotionless guy. and thats him, for sure.

I really enjoyed the movie. I aint a fan of Keanu but he seems to be able pick these parts. Good blend of horror sci fi and battle between good and evil worth checking out.

I'd liked his too. He did the cynical thing pretty well, and he seemed deepish...I mean, he's no Pacific Ocean, but maybe a deep lake...Or an inland sea...
Now I want to read the comics. But, come on, have they ever made a comic book-based movie that didn't piss off anyone who's read the comics? I mean, X-Men? X-Men 2? They sucked for those of us who knew anything about the comics, or the cartoons. And I had NO IDEA that was Gavin Rossdale. Crazy.

I liked this movie. I am not too big of a fan of Hellblazer so the minor changes they made didnt bother me. I actually thought Keanu did a good job as John Constantine. He has the personality for the part and I think this may have been one of his best roles to date. The storyline had me on edge although there were a couple slow parts. The special efeects were good and I am looking forward to seeing the sequel.
