Ong-Bak

My neighbor (Oleg of the Red Elvises) let me borrow this movie...all I can say is WOW! The storyline is horrible just like any other action/fighting movie, but anyone who watches this wouldn't give a crap as the fighting/chase scenes are AMAZING! To top it off, it's not the usual karate/kung-fu master movie. The main character in Ong-Bak actually specializes in Muay Thai.

Get this movie and watch it. It's simply amazing.

I've been told that they use no string in making this movie, if so, then damn, that guy can jump!! The bar scene, gotta love it. After watching this movie, my friends keep on wanting to knee and elbow people, which is so damn annoying. But I gotta admit, I do too. It's one of those movies where after watching it, you just wanna go and immitate the moves.

Yeah I watched it on DVD, but you gotta navigate through a foreign (Thai?) menu to get the English subtitles. With a little work, it's possible, and WELL worth it!

OH WOW!!! I was told that it wasn't available with english subs yet! Oh man I've gotta go get this now. Having studied Muay Thai for the last few months (and I plan on continuing for the rest of my life), it'll be great to see what is possible with years of intense training. It's like seeing your paycheck for the end of your career after many promotions and a lot of work just as you're starting your new job.

The truth is you don't even need to have subtitles to understand the story as there's not much of a story to understand. In any case, yes, the version I watched has English subtitles. You just have to navigate the Thai DVD menu and use trial and error to find which option activates the English subtitles. Took me less than a minute though.

Here is a picture of the cover, just to help you recognize it if you ever see it:

Yeah,
Waiting for this film is killing me. I do Muay Thai, and im always looking for stuff to inspire me. Apparently on the strength of this film they are already shooting the sequal in Australia. I think its called Tom Yum Goong (you know, the soup).

I downloaded it the other night and watched it and I have to say it was pretty damn good. He does some really increible things in the movie, but its still not up there with a good Jackie Chan movie. The story line was really damn bad, in the subtitles I had it called the fat guy "Dirty Balls." Also, his moves got really repetetive in the fight scenes. How many times can I be expected to be wowed by a flying elbow to the top of the head?

It's still worth watching and it's still really good. Maybe given a better choreographer and script the sequel could be great.

That's hilarious. I wish I was fluent in other languages so I can "translate" movies for people and change the names where I see fit. LOL I wonder where they got "Dirty Balls" from.

I'm planning on going to see this tonight in Philadelphia, it sounds excellent. Anybody in the area?

And CityOfAngels, you know the Red Elvises? That kicks ass. Their work in Six-String Samurai was great.

Just saw it. Some of the very best martial arts recorded on film. The story was formulaic, but it did not distract from the action. As far as martial arts movies, I give this an 8.9 out of 10 stars.

I just saw this in the theater tonight. I found one place that was showing it around here. I highly reccomend it if you like martial arts flicks. The things they do in this movie are bloody awesome. The soundtrack isn't so bad either. You'll definitely want to elbow someone in the face after watching it.

Just finished getting back from it. We where calling it "Bok Choi: Thai Fighter" in anticipation.

I love the 'oh, did you think we used trick photography there? Nope. Here is proof!' instant replays.

The cuts to the landing scenes where also nicely seamless.

Did anyone else notice that the camera quality varied alot? As if they had a few good cameras, and a bunch of crappy ones.

Well worth watching. As for Jackie Chan, well, I'm going to get together a bunch of his best movies, and reaffirm his crown. Or have a good time. Maybe both!

To avoid the 'random menu navigation', try starting the movie up, and hitting the 'Subtitle' button a few times. Odds are you'll get to one saying 'English'.

the movie is awesome. the fighting is amazing. and yes the story is pretty weak and very up in the air as to what the real point of some of the characters really is. Other wise the scenes are amazing and the really cool thing is the slow alot of them down and show reverse angles to show you its real.
Overall its a great action movie.

I have seen this movie, and the fight scenes are amazing. The combat alone justifies seeing it. If you have the opportunity to see this movie, and you choose to do so, it is a good thing.

Yeah, let us know! I mean, once you've seen Jackie Chan land on his head from three stories up in two separate takes...well, it takes a lot to overcome that.
