Live Action EVANGELION TV Show in the Works

Fans of Evangelion will probably be divided on this one, half of you will say, "Crap, they can't make a Live-Action version!!!" and half will say "Shit dog! Dis is total bombage!!" in a positive manner.

I for one am very happy with the news that Evangelion is making to live-action, will be great to see the spectacular CG that will undoubtably used on the robots (first time methinks, at least on this scale).

Anyway, read the following article....

Weta Aboard Neon Genesis Evangelion Live-Action Pic
Tuesday, May 20, 2003 3:16 CDT

Variety says a live-action film based on hit Japanese animated TV series Neon Genesis Evangelion is in the works. The project will mark a collaboration between ADV Films, a producer-distributor of Japanese toons in North America, Nippon producer Gainax and Peter Jackson's New Zealand-based Weta Workshop, whose f/x wizardry was utilized in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

ADV Films prez-CEO John Ledford said, "The three main players here represent something of a dream team for a project like this. Between the quality and significance of Gainax, Weta's industry-leading skill in visual effects and our expertise in the marketing and promotion of anime and anime-related content, this project is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

While Ledford said the film is in early development, he foreshadowed an "aggressive timetable."
When I read that Weta are behind the SFX I splooged my pants.

That could be very interesting. NGE is one of my favourite animes, I hope they'll do a good job with this.

Thanks for the news

Tread lightly.

They need some real sex appeal in this to make me like it. As much as I respect the anime series, I kept watching it till the end because Asuka is absolutely awesome and I wouldn't have her any other way.

Sexy Asuka PLEASE

I've read that James Cameron is involved in this one somehow (either producer, director, writer), and considering that he's quite the anime fan I'm sure it'll turn out great.

how will they condense the entire series into a 2 hour movie without losing a bunch of the good stuff that eva fans love?

Sometime, some medium (like ANIME) should not cross over (to Live-Action)

Unless they plan on doing a multifilm story arch....

The Breaking News...
ADV Films, who released the Neon Genesis Evengelion anime series in the US has announced that they are working with the series producer Gainax and the great digital effects company Weta Workshop, Ltd. to produce a live action feature film based on the longlived series.

"The three main players here represent something of a 'dream-team' for a project like this one," said ADV Films President and CEO John Ledford . "Between the quality and significance of the Gainax title, Weta's industry-leading skill in the creation of special visual effects, and our expertise in the marketing and promotion of anime and anime-related content, this project is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

The Story...
"Neon Genesis Evangelion" is the story of a reluctant young hero, called upon to pilot an immense robotic weapon in battle against hordes of Alien Invaders.

Including both a 26-episode television series and at least two animated motion pictures to draw upon, "Neon Genesis Evangelion" has long been both a fan favorite and an extraordinary, universal critical and commercial success, with the worldwide franchise producing many millions of dollars in revenue for its various distributers.

The Timetable...
The "Neon Genesis Evangelion" live-action motion picture is now in the earliest stages of its development. CEO Ledford has confirmed, however, that the project's timetable is an "aggressive one", and that more information on the futuristic fanasy film is forthcoming soon.

hmmm... maybe if it's filmed of US shores..
I hope they can condense theentire series into a 2 hour movie well. Heck.. even in 26+2 OVA's it didnt make that much sense. A lot of the Misato stuff and Shinji's whining could easily be cut out.

Since when did US movie/TV use actors of the age they're portraying? The people on Dawsons Creek are in their late thirties! lol, and if they decide to keep the age in context with the story they'll most likely not mention it in words.

i'm thrilled but i share the sentiment of whether or not they can actually form a 2 hour movie out of such a indepth and lengthy series. the ending alone is worthy of a few movies

Asuka is teh hotsex. She don't look like no 14-year-old to me I have the box set and the two movies, and I'm still confused. I've done tons of research and read what other people think its about... I'd say I have about 70% of the story down pat. Great anime. Yet to see any other as confusing yet as pleasing to watch. I know it's cliché, but NGE is by far my favorite anime series

Oh yeah, I don't think this live action idea will turn out well, but God (or Adam, or Lilith... or Shinji?) knows we're all gonna storm to go see it if/when it ever comes to US shores even if it turns out crappy

OK I wanted to know more about this live action Evangelion movie. I think they can make a good movie about the beginning of Evangelion, unless they want to do a whole lot of flashbacks in the movie... And I hope that the ending would be changed. If the original creator of the anime got death threats IN JAPAN over it, people will die over here in America over it.

And I found some concept art, it's eh-ish at best because one thing I liked about the anime robots is that they looked like robots and not these bio-mechanoid things. Hesitation to make this would be from it becoming a CGI-crapfest. If the movie really wants some hep with the machines not being total ruins, they need to watch my childhood favorite Robot Jox.
