Nike NHL Lockout Commercial

I don't know why I feel the urge to post this, but this commercial really touched me, and I don't know why. I love hockey, and it just made me feel really, really sad. I think partly because it is well done, and its nice that a company at least APPEARS likes it genuinly sad about a sport. But we all know that its just so Nike can get the people to bring hockey back to they can plaster their logo all over the jerseys again.

Wow, that was cool. I'm hoping they can get to middle grounds. At least the ECHL is going to play, and I'll get to see some form of hockey.

There was a newspaper ad in the Calgary Sun the day after the lockout was official that was just the last frame of that ad.

Makes me wonder how long ago Nike had this commercial made.... long before the lockout was annouced I'd guess.

I'm, ashamedly, a fair weather hockey fan. I only manage to follow my local team, the Sharks, when the playoffs roll around. But, I'm totally bummed that the season doesn't look it's going to happen, I really was going to make a better effort to pay attention this year. Buncha greedy bastards.

G4TechTV started their hockey season last night on Sweating the NHL where they'll be playing ever regular season game using various NHL computer games. (I think computer vs. computer, but I'm not sure). I know it's not real hockey, but it's as close as you're gonna get this season.

I am in Houston and we only have an IHL team, which I rarely go see. Sometimes I go to Dallas to see the Stars, but hockey on tv is almost unwatchable. And most people wont watch so the ratings suck. No tv clout for players=lockout. And they might not play next year. Kinda weird that I play ice hockey, but wont watch it. Oh well, we had a couple of ex-NHL players play in a game for us last season and it was awesome to see (we had to forfeit, the other team complained) maybe we can get a current player or 2 to drop in for us this season.

That commercial makes me sad, no local hockey teams out here, but at least I could root for the wings and the wild! Until this year at least...

Last night was suposed to be the opening game for our Stanley Cup Lightning. All summer they made a big fuss about what an ordeal it will be to raise 3 Chamionship flags in the arena, and ticket prices were through the roof. But, as expected, there is no season. The local news stations were kinda making fun of it. They acted like they were out tailgating before the game, drinking beer, wearing jersey's, etc. Any excitedly walked to the arena to find it locked. They were "Locked Out". Sucks that professional sports have come to this, but oh well.
I like the commercial though. Thanks, hadn't seen it yet.

Thats a really well done ad. I winder how much Nike will lose in merchandise this season... (cause they still have to pay the endorsements)

I like hockey, but truthfully won't miss it one bit. I'm sick and tired of multi-millionaires crying about money. I would gladly trade places with them in a heartbeat.

I used to work for the company that owned the Philly Flyers. Most people don't know this but the NHL teams all layed off tons of low level employees that made very average saleries. So don't feel bad for the millionaires, feel bad for the everyday people who had thier lives affected by the strike.

Honestly, I feel sorry for me that I don't get my hockey this year!

I feel good that church wrote in this thread, because I love looking at his avatar.

I don't mean to sound all knowledgeable, because I'm not, but I'm from Canada, the first nation of hockey. And notice - I called it hockey. NOT ice hockey. Ice hockey is what people from Florida or Kentucky call hockey.

I am glad that there is a lockout. I'm glad because hopefully good will come of it. I think it will be great to lose 3 or 4 franchises. The level of per team talent will increase substantially, thereby increasing the quality of the game, thereby making it worthwhile to pay $60 to see a game.

Well, that's my $0.02

That brings a tear to my eye. I hope the owners realize what they are doing to the game. This isn't baseball and the amount of time it will take for teams to financially bounce back is enormous. I suspect that some may never recover. For now I will continue to support my local AHL team.
