Saw- Is it going to be good or bad?
There's a new ultra-horrific movie coming out soon called Saw. Upon first look, it seems to only have a gross-out factor to it. However, after viewing the trailer and recognizing that Danny Glover is in it, I'm starting see comparisons to a modern Se7en, with the twistedness of The Cell (but without JLo and the cool artistic direction) and the horror of The Cube (but without the cheesy script and actors).
So, do you think it's going to be good or do you think it's going to suck? Check out the trailer(s) http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/20...w/trailer.html

I saw Saw last week at an Atlanta screening and was just blown away by it. It has a pretty original plot, with some similarities to Se7en. The film makers kept mentioning how little the movie actually cost to make, but it doesn't really feel like a low budget movie.
Another point I wanted to make is that I would probably consider it more of a thriller than a horror movie, even though it does have qualities of both genres. I'm not going give anything away, but let me finish by saying that I highly recommend this film. I can't wait to see it again when it is released nationwide.

I saw a little cardboard ad for it at the movie theater, and that's all I've heard of it besides this thread. But I saw Cary Elwes name on the thing and that immediately sparked my interest.
When does it come out?

Wasn't there a SAW thread? (spoilers abound un-hidden.. you've been warned..)
I just got finished watching SAW and I thought it was awesome. I didn't know where the movie was going, I thought larry was really going to try to kill adam from the start and when he didn't I had no idea where the movie was going. It was pretty tense! I kinda expected the end to be similar but I never ever ever guess who the real mastermind was.. frickin cool!
The only thing that really threw the film off was Zep or Zap or whatever his name was... The reason he did what he did was because he was poisoned but it REALLY seems like a hospital would be able to cure just about anything that the killer could get his hands on, right?

i was looking forward to this movie. not like unbearable eagerly or anything, but i thought it was gonna be good. i turned out to be very wrong. i only stayed to the end because i hate not knowing how a movie ends once i've started it, i refuse to walk out. now i hear they've already greenlighted a sequel, for halloween next year. hooray.

I didn't think it was great either. I thought the acting was terrible. Couple of scenes were scary and disgusting for sure. A sequel...

that was your only problem with the movie? why the hell didn't larry use his shirt to grab the ringing cellphone that was about 2 inches away, rather than use it to cut the bloodflow so he could saw off his leg? why did the killer wear a black hood out apparently everywhere he went? in a movie with carey elwes, danny glover, and monica potter, why couldn't they afford someone other than the writer to play adam so they could have someone who knew how to act .. though that matters less considering the joke performances elwes and glover crapped out.

I thought it was awesome. Yeah, it had a few plot holes, but what films don't nowadays? (The Matrix, any M Night Shyamalan movie, etc.)
It really got me thinking, what would i do in that situation? Quote:

If ever there was a movie made for Mystery Science Theater 3000, this was it. What a horrible bunch of acting this was. It was so horrible, it was impossible for me to refrain from laughing out loud throughout. The acting was just so bad.
So bad.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I really enjoyed the movie... -espcially- the ending. The movie played on people's fears in general, and I thought the scene Spoiler: where he was looking through the house with the camera flash and found Jigsaw in the closet was pretty creepy.
However, I do admit that there were many plot holes in the movie, and also some parts where you're like "Why didn't he just...". I got it a 7.5/10

Man, I went and watched this crap with a buddy. The only time I was frightened was after I left the theater, realizing I spent seven fucking dollars on this waste of celluloid. Plot was idiotic, with holes you could drive a truck through, horrible overacting, general stupidity, and nary any gore or scares. Hell, I was atleast expecting lots of gore. But no, I was let down. I feel violated. This movie betrayed my trust, and I will never forgive it for that.
Best line in the movie: "You've been wounded in the shoulder." I can just imagine Will Ferrell saying that, with the same delivery as Elwe. Hilarious.

Yeah, they just run a blood test on you and can easily find out what you're poisoned with.

It's All About The Ass!!

Well a few scenes bothered me. For one no one tried sawing off the locks alone. Surely would have made more sense than that thick ass chain...higher probability it'd actually work...considering they cut locks with large plyers. Also how that big ass man was able to hide unseen in the back of his car the entire ride doesn't seem very likely to me. I'd have seen his ass right away I don't care wtf he was wearing. My mom noticed that when he grabbed the gun from the kidnapper his finger dragged with the gun. If he was really dead rigamortis would have stopped him at least until he broke his finger off. Plus I've touched dead hands...they're VERY cold. Blew his brains out but there were no brains anywhere...not splattered on the wall like they should have been..plus the bullet hole was nowhere...and no one noticed he was breathing and zapping them. I know what you're thinking "Well in that sort of situation who would notice those things?" blah blah but right from the begining he was noticing little things all over the place..very ALERT but somehow failed to notice those things. Also no matter what you've been druged with I'm pretty sure a revolver going off would have woken you up. I'm sure theres more flaws in it's design I've forgotten that I noticed while watching it. But asside from all those things I just tried to enjoy it. And I did. It was pretty good. Not nearly as good as they made it out to be but once I heard everyone saying how much it sucked I dismissed all that and expected complete crap which it wasn't really ya know?

I thought the story was way cool, although I do agree that the acting was particularly bad by most of the characters. Looking past those flaws I can say that I was definitely entertained by the plot.
One thing I didn't get was about the key in the bathtub. Did it flush down the drain or what? Oh yeah, and it was pretty stupid for Adam to stick his hand in that bowl full of shit when he could have easily checked the water tank first. |

Saw
This was hard to search for, so i am not sure if this has been posted before?
I saw Saw yesterday and it's a really cool physcological serial killer thriller with a similar creepy/disturbing feel to Seven (although this reference has probably been overdone?), and not a standard serial killer thriller, like some of the ones Ashley Judd has been involved in. It starts out with 2 guys who wake up, chained up, in a rundown bathroom with a dead guy between them. THere's the inital paranoia of why am i here and who the hell are you (similar to The Cube), but the story gradually uncovers itself as they learn more about each other and their positions, with both predictible and unpredictible twists. It was very suspensful and exciting all the way through, so if you're interested in this kind of genre horror/thriller then you should find this to be very entertaining |

It's had a couple of posts yeah. Prolly on page 2 or 3 by now. You'd have to lengthen the post time from Last Month to something further back to see it though.

hah, Australia (well Perth?) is always getting fucked with release dates; so movies have probably already been out in America for years
We just got Bad Santa in theatres a couple of weeks ago!... although obviously since it wasn't released near last christmasm(to synch with the american one), it wouldn't make too much sense releasing it in early or mid 2004 Same with Garden State, which i plan to see tomorrow |

i didn't like it very well. it had an innovative plot but it kind of sank itself in the weight of what it was trying to do.
thought the kid was the best actor in the whole film. and i called the ending like a mofo once i knew what the plot was about, really early. |

Think I'll wait for the DVD to come out, maybe the movie will be better with extra scenes and such. Also, it may even have an unrated version with more gore etc.

I loved every minute of Saw. The story was witty and downright sick. A lot of people compare it to Seven but I think the similarities are more of a genre/style thing rather than story. The acting was anything outstanding obviously (Adam's character as kind of bad) but the movie was great. Good story, good plot twists, freakin awesome ending. I give this one my highest reccomendation.
