Shaun of the Dead

For easy reference:

Shaun of the Dead = great fucking movie

It's a british zombie movie that's not quite a spoof, but offers more laughs than a typical horror movie. I know that British comedy is, how do I say....not funny, but almost every joke in this movie works. This is an incredibly entertaining movie, and I can think of no better way to spend $8 this weekend.

3 words. Go. See. It.

It is one of my favorite movies OF ALL TIME. Absolutely fantastic. It's an absolutle must see for any self-respecting zombie movie fan! The DVD is incredible too, LOADS of extras (and they are all pretty good too).

SEE THIS MOVIE.

If you like this movie, I urge you to track down the TV series Spaced, which was written and directed by and starring the same people. It too is damn funny, and absolutely chock-a-block full of pop culture references.

Also I would like to mention something which most US viewers wouldn't realise:

Most of the people who you see on the tv are actual newsreaders and tv personalities playing themselves (just like it is with Trisha).
So at the end when you hear Jeremy Thompson (the newsreader) talking about never expecting to ever have to say "Removing the head or destroying the brain" in his career...he was telling the truth!

Monty Python is funny as hell, but British tv is also responsible for shows like "Are you being served?", "As time goes by", and "Keeping up appearances". My local PBS station gets a plethora of british "comedies", and every time I hear the laugh track on those shows, I stop and say "Where was the joke there? Did I miss something?" Regardless, I loved this movie.

Truth be told, both sides of the pond produce untold of amounts of garbage masquerading as comedy. However, personally I think that Britain has a much better quality/shit ratio going on. And this is coming from an Irishman! We're supposed to hate the Brits!

Just a matter of taste I suppose.

What? You're lumping in Married with Children with those shows? That's just sacrileges, dude. Besides Tom Green is Canadian and if I remember correctly, his show was Canadian even though MTV picked it up.

Married with Children is awesome.

Now back on topic. I plan on going to see it as soon as it plays near here.

Ok. Got it out of my system. I appolgise for offending anyone! (I rpobably would have chosen worse shows, but couldn't think of any as I am not a huge tv watcher) So, lets not do the whole UK vs. US comedy thing. We don't want to get this thread off track when we should be heaping praise on one of the greatest films ever!

P.S. Did I mention how much Shaun of the Dead rules?

This film was not as good as I hoped it would be. The same people make a TV series called Spaced which is far better. On the subject of British comedy - if you can ever find it check out The League of Gentlemen. This is a very, very, very strange but also funny comedy series.

This movie was one of the best times I've had at the movies this year. Funny as hell and a great zombie movie to boot.

The thing that shocked me was it was a zombie movie where I actually cared and felt sad when a character died.

Does anyone know when this flick it supposed to get a wide release? I can't find anything on it. It's number 7 at the box office off of a limited release. That's got to say something.

This is the first movie in a long time that I actually want to go see and I can't. Oh the humanity!

It's a commentary track by the zombies. Just an hour and a half of groaning.

I kid. It's some of the actors who played zombies in the film doing a commentary. Haven't listened to it yet.

I saw it on Saturday. It was great, a high recomendation from me.

As for the whole "British Comedy" debate; quite frankly I don't get most of it. I have seen and enjoyed all the Monty Pyton features, but somehow the "brilliance" of them goes over my head. Don't get me started on the horror that is AbFab...WTF is that all about. Oh well, to each his own I suppose.

As for Tom Green, yes he is Canadian and we're sorry.

I saw Shaun of the dead not too long ago, I thought it was hilarious

Probably one of the best movies I have seen all year.

I couldn't stop laughing at the scene when Shaun and Ed find the girl in their back yard and think she is drunk

Shaun: Oh my god...She's so drunk
Ed: Oh..I think she likes you..I think she wants to cuddle

gets me every time...hahaha

that was gold.

That's very strange. It got zero hype or publicity over here.

Is this film getting advertised much over in the US?

Shaun od the Dead was great. The week before I saw it Trio (a directv station) was playing two episodes of Spaced each night. i'm looking forward to getting that on dvd in the states.

I also really enjoyed the first two or three seasons of Coupling, the american version was awful though, and The Office, but i hear they are doing an american version of that as well. I guess we can't let the British have anything good of their own.

To anyone who liked this movie: You need to see Spaced, which is one of the greatest comedy shows ever made!

Since it probably is very difficult to get a hold of in the US, you can buy it online for quite cheap:
Spaced Series 1, £7.99 (approx $11)
Spaced Series 2, £7.99 (approx $11)
or
Spaced: The Definitive Collector's Edition (3 discs), £16.99 (approx $24)
all prices are including delivery!

Unfortunately, this will not be suitable for everyone as you will need to be able to play Region 2 DVDs and own a PAL compatible television.

Appologies for the sheer shamelessness of this post. It just bothers me how unknown this show is. Most people have never even heard of it. One of the best things to come out of Shaun of the Dead is that more people are hearing about it, and are curious enough to check it out.

British Humour, American Humour, Canadians are bombarded by both. Our local paper said Shawn of the Dead, was probably a better movie because the Brits made it, and I think they were right. It was a fun film, and when the DVD comes to Canada, I will buy it, to put it with my Evil Dead collection. American and Funny !

This movie was so amazing... me and my friends saw it when it was playing in NY and I ordered the DVD over the internet (it should be coming in next week)... It was just a well made zombie movie, not even considering how funny it was. The make-up and SFX were dead on... I hope that we see more movies like this coming soon, horror-comedy done right...
