American Idol or Why America is Populated by Morons With Bad Taste
Maybe it's just me, but why why why wasn't Jasmine in the bottom two tonight? If I didn't have the need to see who wins, I'd just stop watching right now.
EDIT: Good Captain Christ, they are such morons. The person they voted off was, in my opinion, one of the top two. (Omitting name in case it's tape delayed -- I don't know) By the way, sorry that there's already a general AI topic. Didn't see it until too late. /venting of rage Last edited by Slavakion; 05-12-2004 at 06:02 PM.. |

I've been watching this season mainly because there was some honestly good talent....and they both just ended up in the bottom two with the best of all of them leaving. I have now officially lost all interest in the show, and I doubt I'll watch it from now on. I'll just find out who wins from the papers. I honestly can't comprehend the way the results went tonight. It's really rather pathetic. I share your frustrations completely.

I agree that Fantasia should have been in the bottom two, but it should have been Jasmine there with her. Diana has slowly worked her way into a front runner for me. I couldn't stand her at the beginning of the series, now I love her. It's just the opposite for Fantasia, in my opinion.

You wanna talk about America being populated by morons with bad taste? Let's talk about those that actually watch this shit.

This kind of thing happens because casual viewers don't vote, only the most hardcore viewers do, and they usually have a favorite that they will vote for no matter how badly they do. Their only reason to vote is to keep this person on the show for another week. If they don't have this fanatical following then they can't compete... Latoya never seemed to have that, and 3 weeks ago Jennifer Hudson suffered from the same problem.
Say what you will, Latoya may have had talent, but I got the impression that she had no clue what to do with it beyond sing what was put in front of her... Of course I am one of those people who don't vote. /shrug |

I am still of the belief that the "voting" is rigged. On just about every occasion the option that would cause the most controversy and cause the most people to talk about it happens. Personally, I like Jasmine. She's not the best singer but she's got a far better personality than the others who are left. Fantasia is terrible IMO as she's got a very nasally singing voice that just grates on me. Latoya was the best of the remaining 4 as far as singing goes. Their strategy may be that the winning contestant from the other seasons got a bit overexposed and their albums didn't perform exceptionally (especially when you consider how much press they got) yet the contestants who were near the top but didn't win had pretty impressive album sales. They're trying to build public outrage (or at least dissatisfaction) so Latoya's and Jennifer Hudson's albums will sell better.

Fantasia seems to have gone down in my opinion ... Jasmine is okay, but why did they choose such a lousy bunch?
John wossisface, the redhead was terrible at almost all points. No major personality, no singing ability (other than the lounge lizard style), not even obviously good looking. JPL was also a pretty bad singer - couldn't hold a note, but at least had a bit of personality. The big guy seemed to be the best of the lot, but got booted out. Regardless of the voting and whos in/out, they'll all stand a chance of getting a recording contract out of the whole show. Wonder what the tie-ins are though - do they have to sign with a label related to the show, and go with Simons 19 management team? I'm intrigued .... |

I do agree with you about why they've gotten down to such meager talents when there were quite a few throughout the audition and competition phases that I think performed better. Of course the judges are the "pros" and they could never be wrong (at least in their minds).

I'm of the mindset lately that the whole contest is a setup. America may vote, and those votes may influence how the show's producers choose the outcome of the competition, but they do not decide it.
LaToya and Fantasia were bottom two last night because its been clear from the beginning that the judges want one of them to win. It's the same reason Jennifer got the boot a few weeks ago. 3 very talented women will split the vote and weaken them all. So will 2. If either one is going to have any chance of beating Diana (who for the last few weeks the judges have been trying to convince America is a serious contender to win), then one needs to take a dive. Personally, I wish they had chosen LaToya to be the winner, because Fantasia's voice just drives me up the wall. |

AI is such a terrible way to estblish music. What the fuck happened to respecting the real musicans who actually learn to play instruments and *gasp* write their own songs? What happened to people struggling for their art? Tour the country in a smelly van and build a real fan base.
I hate pop music. It's such a talent vaccum |

I've never watched it, but I hear Nashville Star contestants write their own songs and play instruments.
I busted out my DVD of season 1 of American Idol, and I gotta say, those contestants were leaps and bounds above this years contestants. They all had a lot more personality too. I didn't watch season 2, but man, has this show gone downhill.

I don't think it's fair to criticise the contestants on AI. Lets face it, for the most part, most of them have some sort of talent. I know for one thing, Tamyra, my favorite from season 1 wrote all 13 or however many songs on her new cd and even co-wrote the single for this year's winner. I think it's a great way for great talent to find their way to success.
Anyways, if Fantasia does not win after those final two songs she sung tonight I'll be pissed. She had me MOVED with that last song she sang man. And her rendition of Summertime is my favorite song she sung this season so I'm glad she did that. I'm still bitter LaToya wasn't there with her but this will just make it easier hopefully for a great singer to win....hopefully. Anyways yeah she killed it tonight, I mean it was the BOMB. Just great; especially the last song. She better win dammit! |

And the new joke goes something like this:
If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be ... Fantasia Barrino. Or maybe I'm the only one who is monumentally annoyed with the nasal sound of her quack, er I mean, voice.

My Wife watches this show every week, and on my day off (wednesdays) I got to watch the results shows with her. To tell you the truth, I'm of the following that believes it's rigged. The top contenders get kicked off so they can start work on production earlier (Latoya/Jennifer)
But seriously, what kind of crack-smoker likes Fantasia's Voice? And Diana, eh, she can do great every now and then... But seriously, if the show hadn't been rigged, Latoya would have won. Well, the other portion of the rigging is in the allowing of multiple calls by those fanatical idiots that will sit there for the whole 2 hours redialing that number to vote for their favorite. ALL MY VOTES ARE GOING TO such and such...damn, this show might be plausible if they only alllowed one vote per phone number. |
