Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003
So I was at the video store last night and saw they were selling a DVD of the first three episodes of TMNT2K3 (as I guess it's called). I was a huge fan of the old series (as I was at the perfect age then) and thought I'd pick this up and check it out.
The Turtles have grown up. On seeing them.. they had some similar features to the old Turtles cartoon, but there was definitely more of a... I don't want to say mature.. but less kiddish type of feel to it. Lots more darkness/shadow use and stuff. Overall I enjoyed it.. and I watched all three episodes on the DVD back to back.. as it did suck me in (continuing storyline.. woah! What better way to get someone to keep buying DVDs hehe). They didn't try and copy the exact formula the old Turltes had (Baxter Stockman, April are different.. Shredder seems different).. and it seems to work for them. The new ones are more edgy and enjoyable (for me now, I guess hehe) Anyways, point of this thread is: Have you watched the new Turtles? What did you think? How'd it compare to the old ones (in your opinion?) Which do you like more? |

I think we already have a thread on this but I'll chime in anyway, I have to say that I quite enjoyed the new series, well, at least up until episode 5 as that was as far as I got.
It did seem a lot more darker and violent too which is always great fun. The original Turtles will always have that nostalgic classicness to them though so it's hard to judge which is the better show. |

I was big into the old series and slightly enjoy this one. I usually miss it but try to catch it if at all possible. I was a fan of a recent episode with the Utron. They're the brainy guys who are like Krang from the original series.

Yeah, the animation style is much more crisp and as Destrox and Latch said earlier, there's a definite presence of shadow, darkness and violence that wasn't in the previous series. I like it so far.
Oh man, not to jack the thread or anything, but have any of you seen the latest Transformers series Energon? Jesus, that's some sweet stuff right there. Real nice cel shading, no crap like Armada. Hell, they even have "the sound."

Roger that. I think the worst part of that whole Armada series was the moving mouths and Saturday morning shitfaced animation. It was terrible. I couldn't watch it after the first couple of episodes.

I gotta say that I love the new Turtle series.
For those of you that don't know, the Ninja Turtles started out as an independent black & white comic book that definitely wasn't meant for the kiddies. What I like about the new show is that many of the storylines are taken almost directly from this first series (with some changes to keep it kid-friendly.) But it's really nice to see some of my favorite comic stories in animated form. |
