Cheap DVD's
I recently got a dvd player and decided that I would like to start a Dvd collection of my own. So far I own:
Koyaanisqatsi Powaqqatsi Kung Pow Joes Appartment It is a small start but i got um in one day and for some good deals. I want to continue my collection but dont have a lot of money to put into it at the moment. I like comedies and action movies and movies like Koyaanisqatsi (i cannot explain). So far I know that I want to buy: Fight Club Simpsons Box sets Donnie Darko Adaptation Blow I am looking for a cheap place to find dvd's if one exists, as of now the only place I know of is Walmart and Suncoast video. |

If you want to order online, check out DeepDiscountDVD.com. They have free shipping on every order, and great prices. Sometimes you have to wait a week or so for the shipment to get to you though.

Just look at the Best Buy ads every week. They'll have 2 for $20 and 3 for $30 very often. Pick up the ones you want and do a quick little sweep for other good cheap titles. That's mostly what I've done and my collection is more than 50 strong after less than 9 months.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

I usually just buy from Amazon--no hassle, and their prices are pretty good.

other places to check out:
pawn shops - I bought some right before christmas at a local pawn shop for $5 and $6 each. just be sure to check the disks for scratches video rental places will frequently sell excess copies of movies on dvd (like they used to do with vhs tapes) once the movie drops out of heavy rotation. this is especially true of big hit movies (like say a Matrix or LOTR). you will have to wait about 6 months or so after release though. look for places that buy and sell video games, cds and dvds. sometimes you can get great bargains that way. video rental places that go out of business usually have a BIG sale to unload inventory. go to your local library and borrow those movies that you want to see but not necessarily own. just dont expect to find new releases there. I find that my library had better selection of older films than Blockbuster does. great way to save $$ if you have a cdr/w or dvdr/w, you can borrow or rent dvds and then make copies. this is how I have built the bulk of my movie collection. usenet newsgroups are a great place to download movies to burn to disc or dvd, but ONLY if you have a broadband connection.

I use alldirect.com for most of my DVDs, CDs, and books. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous, I've gotten brand new CDs for under $5!
How is Koyaanisqatsi, btw? I've seen some portions of it, and it looks very intriguing, but how does it hold up over an entire movie? It seemed like the kind of thing that would get kind of boring and repetitive after a while, but I don't know if that's true or not. |
