Cheap DVD's
I recently got a dvd player and decided that I would like to start a Dvd collection of my own. So far I own:
Koyaanisqatsi Powaqqatsi Kung Pow Joes Appartment It is a small start but i got um in one day and for some good deals. I want to continue my collection but dont have a lot of money to put into it at the moment. I like comedies and action movies and movies like Koyaanisqatsi (i cannot explain). So far I know that I want to buy: Fight Club Simpsons Box sets Donnie Darko Adaptation Blow I am looking for a cheap place to find dvd's if one exists, as of now the only place I know of is Walmart and Suncoast video. |
Target usually has a lot of good DVDs for under $10.
|
If you want to order online, check out DeepDiscountDVD.com. They have free shipping on every order, and great prices. Sometimes you have to wait a week or so for the shipment to get to you though.
|
Best buy has The boondock saints for 10 dollars. Go buy that movie.
THE BOONDOCK SAINTS. (incase you didnt catch it the first time) |
A good chunk of my collection is dedicated to those gems you find for 9 bucks in the bottom of that bargin bin in Walmart

Boondock Saints has a small cast that knows exactly what they're doing. At $10, it's definitely worth it. -Lasereth |
Where can I get it for 10$ it sounds like a good movie?

I picked it up at Target last night and it was good.

I just got "Tigerland" for $6 at Target. Sweet!
Check out www.half.com and www.overstock.com for some cheap DVD finds. |
Just look at the Best Buy ads every week. They'll have 2 for $20 and 3 for $30 very often. Pick up the ones you want and do a quick little sweep for other good cheap titles. That's mostly what I've done and my collection is more than 50 strong after less than 9 months.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Dazed and Confused double back for 20bucks at Fred Meyer or BestBuy - not a bad deal.
Waynes World 1 and 2 for 18bucks at BestBuy Dogma was 15, not sure what it is anymore.. |
I just bought The Adventures of Ford Fairlane for 5.99 at KMart. They had a bin full of 5.99 DVD's.
|
Super Walmart always has Huge bins of dvds for 5 something and then some for 7.99 and another section of double backs.
|
I usually just buy from Amazon--no hassle, and their prices are pretty good.

other places to check out:
pawn shops - I bought some right before christmas at a local pawn shop for $5 and $6 each. just be sure to check the disks for scratches video rental places will frequently sell excess copies of movies on dvd (like they used to do with vhs tapes) once the movie drops out of heavy rotation. this is especially true of big hit movies (like say a Matrix or LOTR). you will have to wait about 6 months or so after release though. look for places that buy and sell video games, cds and dvds. sometimes you can get great bargains that way. video rental places that go out of business usually have a BIG sale to unload inventory. go to your local library and borrow those movies that you want to see but not necessarily own. just dont expect to find new releases there. I find that my library had better selection of older films than Blockbuster does. great way to save $$ if you have a cdr/w or dvdr/w, you can borrow or rent dvds and then make copies. this is how I have built the bulk of my movie collection. usenet newsgroups are a great place to download movies to burn to disc or dvd, but ONLY if you have a broadband connection. |
Check your local pawnshop, they're $5/each where I live.
|
I usually get my dvds from Walmart or Future Shop (best buy for you americans). Future Shop's been having a lot of 2 packs lately, great deal if you can find ones you like.
|
http://www.dvdpricesearch.com is a good site for finding the cheapest price on dvds.
|
I know where you can get cheap Region 2 DVDs, but you're
probably not bothered about that! |

But if you're looking for that hard to find anime or foreign film, odds are... they'll have it. |
I use alldirect.com for most of my DVDs, CDs, and books. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous, I've gotten brand new CDs for under $5!
How is Koyaanisqatsi, btw? I've seen some portions of it, and it looks very intriguing, but how does it hold up over an entire movie? It seemed like the kind of thing that would get kind of boring and repetitive after a while, but I don't know if that's true or not. |
