lordjeebus 10-11-2003 05:14 PM

How much I like a Spielberg film is proportional to how much of that movie involves people running around (chasing, being chased, escaping things, etc.). It is also inversely proportional to how emotional Spielberg tries to make things -- I like emotional movies in general but when I watch Spielberg I feel like he's trying to hard to manipulate my reaction.

My favorites are the Indiana Jones movies and Minority Report. I respect Schindler's List but am not really a fan.

BigGov 10-11-2003 05:21 PM

Saving Private Ryan

Batman976 10-11-2003 05:27 PM

I gotta go with Jaws or Raiders of the Lost Ark.

hansthemolemann 10-11-2003 05:35 PM

Saving Private Ryan, I love ww2 movies

DownwardSpiral 10-11-2003 07:50 PM

Indiana Jones series or Minority Report all the way.

Mr.Deflok 10-11-2003 08:18 PM

Minority Report, the Indy flicks and The Duel.

Mr. Spacemonkey 10-11-2003 08:20 PM

Out of the few that i've seen, i would have to say Minority Report probably.

mystmarimatt 10-11-2003 08:29 PM

frankgrimes 10-11-2003 08:39 PM

Raiders of the Lost Ark was great, Close Encounters and E.T. were good, the rest I could do without.

That's right, he did direct Hook, didn't he. Hook was pretty cool but i wouldn't say it was my favorite though.

Xiangsu 10-11-2003 08:57 PM

I never knew that he did Twighlight Zone and Hook, but I liked both of them(especially Hook).

mystmarimatt 10-11-2003 11:52 PM

yeah, Hook rocks, i watch it very time i'm home sick.

bundy 10-12-2003 12:30 AM

well, i particularly enjoyed Empire of the Sun and the Indiana Jones series...

but of that list, i have to say Schindlers List was the most moving, and the most unforgettable.

Moskie 10-12-2003 01:34 AM

This would have made a decent poll....

I'll vote for Saving Private Ryan, a great film in pretty much every category. I also really liked Minority Report.

Gortexfogg 10-12-2003 06:44 AM

Jaws and Close Ecounters of the Third Kind are my favorite Spielberg films. Jaws is simply a great movie and Close Encounters creeped me out when I first saw it...

Baldrick 10-12-2003 07:17 AM

I loved Always, so that has to be up there. Also include Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Close Encounters. Hard to choose between those three.

I woud have but a poll can has a maximum of ten options and Steven has made about 20 movies.

djflish 10-12-2003 09:24 AM

Hook!

No, seriously, Jaws and Close Encounters

Lunchbox7 10-12-2003 11:11 AM

I would have to say Schindlers List is the best movie out of the lot but I enjoyed the indy series the most.

Mr.Deflok 10-12-2003 02:39 PM

So I'm the only person who liked The Duel?

You're probably not the only one to like it, but you may be the only one to pick it as your favorite.

dragon2fire 10-12-2003 08:02 PM

always was great

so was saving private ryan

meepa 10-12-2003 08:49 PM

A toss-up between Raiders and Saving Pvt Ryan for me!

CSflim 10-14-2003 02:19 PM

Meh!...not a huge fan of Speilberg.

Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List were both great films.

The rest lie between reasonable, and completly forgetable.

In A.I. you could just see that he was simply WAAAY out of his league.

Lasereth 10-14-2003 05:24 PM

I enjoyed A.I. alot. My favorite would probably be Saving Private Ryan, simply because I'm fascinated with WWII.

wackeyass 10-14-2003 08:13 PM

TOOOOOO easy, Saving Private Ryan by far

Porkchop 10-15-2003 01:26 AM

Also for pure entertainment the Indiana Jones movies are great.

Loup 10-15-2003 04:47 AM

I loved Duel....it kept me nailed to the edge of my seat, but Jaws was probably the only movie that made me yell out loud in a theater.

mattevil 10-15-2003 12:56 PM

indiana jones (i think i'm in the minority but i like crusade the best)
or
jaws

JcL 10-15-2003 02:41 PM

Saving Private Ryan

Indy

Really couldn't stand AI. Only movie I can that about of his though. Minority Report was excellent regardless of the fact that it had Tom Cruise, who generally I've not been impressed with.

PeaceFrog 12-15-2003 05:26 PM

Not a big Spielberg fan, but my favorites would be Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

Kostya 12-15-2003 06:26 PM

Well I have a few things against Spielberg, but quite frankly when you're talking Speilberg, you can go on about his less the brilliant attempts at serious cinema such as Saving Private Ryan and Amistad. He did make Schindler's List, and that is a classic, but apart from that I don't really think he has the ability to have a non-happy ending, even when dealing with something like AI, where we're talking about the horrors of existential dread.

As a children's movie maker, he is awesome. Hook is wicked, and also another film which apparently Yahoo doesn't recognise: GOONIES...

I mean come on, that movie was awesome.

Hook was great too.

Ru-Fi-Oooooo

sailor 12-16-2003 07:33 AM

Probably SPR. Lots of people like to harp on it, but it was the first truly realistic (in the sense of showing combat) war movie to be released. I also think its a damn good movie in its own right.

Schindlers List is also a wonderful movie.

tooth 12-18-2003 01:13 PM

Tough choice, but I'm going with Raiders of the Lost Ark.

While I would have a hard time calling it his 'best' movie. It would have to be the one that I most enjoy watching. Therefore, my favorite.

Poloboy 12-18-2003 02:16 PM

Favourite is Raiders of the Lost Ark. Not necessarily the best directed, but that wasn't the question, was it? :)
