Attracted to the actor or the character?
Michael C Hall? I never thought he was attractive while watching Six Feet Under. Maybe it was because David Fisher was gay. Although I knew the actor was hetero, maybe I just wasn't interested. Maybe my desire for Peter Krause was stronger.
Now I am a fan of Dexter and found an attraction. If I'm attracted to the character of Dexter, I'm a bit concerned considering he's a serial killer. Hugh Laurie? I love him as House. I was never attracted to him until now. Never swooned during blackadder, Fry and Laurie, 101 Dalmations or Stuart Little. I think I am more attracted to the character of House than Hugh Is there a character that attracts you more than the actor/actress or the opposite? |

I like to watch Sandra Bullock's movies. I know she's had a few clunkers (Speed 2 - what was she thinking?), but most of the time her acting is entertaining, and - caveman thinking coming to the surface - she's cute.
Most of the time, I'll seek out one of her movies because I "need" a feel-good story. Since that's the majority of her films, she's dependable. I agree with you about Hugh Laurie, by the way. Like to watch him in House, but don't care for him in comedies. Not attracted to him either way, tho.

Hmmm.. characters I'm attracted to played by actresses I'm not...
Sarah 'Mac' MacKenzie! I'm totally attracted to Lt. Col. Sarah MacKenzie on JAG; strong, intelligent, sexy, but still fragile. Catherine Bell herself, though, doesn't really do it for me. I've seen her in Army Wives and Bruce Almighty and... well, nothing. And I've seen her interviewed and she's not only vanilla, but she's clearly a Scientologist. I knew even before Googling it. Back in 2002, a movie came out called Secretary. In it Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Lee Holloway, one of the most charming subs ever portrayed in film, and a totally sexy character. I'm not normally attracted to Maggie Gyllenhaal, but in this, it was amazing. It remains one of the most romantic movies I've ever seen. Emmy Rossum is an example of the opposite. She was bland as hell in Day After Tomorrow, bland as hell in Phantom, she was terrible in Dragonball and she looks sticky and smelly in Shameless. IRL, she seems really smart and very nice, really talented. And really, really hot. |

Jewel Staite. I fell totally in love and lust with her as Kaylee on "Firefly." I've seen her in other things afterward, and sure, she's still cute and all, but Jewel Staite doesn't do half for me what Kaylee did.
Terry Ferrell. I had a huge thing for Jadzia Dax all the way through DS9. Any time I've seen Terry Ferrell IRL, or when I saw her on other shows (like that godawful one with Ted Danson)-- nothing. But, on the other hand, I have been unbelievably disappointed or disinterested in everything Samantha Mathis has done since "Pump Up The Volume" (with the possible exception of "Broken Arrow"), yet I still recall seeing her on some late-night talk show in the early '90s (God help me, it might have been the original Jon Stewart show) and just being struck at how awesome she seemed, and how much that rekindled my fantasies about her.

Cheer up, ZS. Serial killers need love, too.
Dexter may be a serial killer, but he's easy to fall for. He tries so hard to be a good father and shows his vulnerabilities, yet he's strong and committed. The show wouldn't be outstanding if we weren't rooting for him to kill the bad guy. I think it's both, but definitely more the character we're attracted to, once we go beyond the physical, as their current character is how we get to know them.

I'll post my examples of two kinds of attraction:
First: Dennis Franz: Very personable and outgoing on the few talk shows I've seen him on. A very good actor. Some of his characters though, I didn't care for. The cop he played on Hill Street Blues was a dick, the cop he played in Die Hard 2 was a dick, too, and the cop he played on NYPD Blue was a smaller dick. I liked him best on NYPD. (damn, that seems like I have a thing for smaller dicks) Second: Lindsay Lohan: I think she's a pretty good actress, when she has a good part, good actors around her, and stays out of trouble. (the most recent movie of her's I saw was A Prairie Home Companion, with an ensemble cast of some of Hollywood's best) I'm not attracted to the lifestyle she seems hellbent on pursuing, but I wouldn't turn her away if she came knocking on my door looking for a little refuge from her particular storm.

Attracted to the actress: Scarlett Johansson. She a good actress anyway, I'm just not particularly attracted to her characters.
Both: Milla Jovovich in general and her character in the first resident evil movie. Attracted to the character: V for Vendetta character played by Natalia Portman. |
