Alien vs. Predator film...
http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=15472
Read this the other day. Basically it says that instead of pursuing a possible "Alien 5" movie with James Cameron and Ridley Scott collaborating, Fox decided to make an "Alien vs. Predator" movie directed by Paul Anderson. Not sure what to think about this. I enjoyed the AvP video games, and there's definitely a cool concept to explore there, but like the article says, I think that Paul Anderson could really butcher it. I mean, his "Resident Evil" movie was horrible considering the cool game he had to work with. What do you guys think? |

The only positive about it is that AvP doesnt really have a set plot to be screwed up like RE did. Its more of a concept, and like most, it has the potential to be great or to suck rocks. I do think however, that alot of things will have to be done right to pull this off, and it would only take 1 or 2 little "artistic liscense" issues to turn it to junk.

Too bad Kevin Peter Hall is dead. It would be nice to see the original actor back in the role.
I think that whatever they end up doing will probably suck. Nobody in HW seems to come up with anything original anymore. Wouldn't be cool if Peter Jackson got a hold of the material. Hmmm. At least that would be fun to watch.

I personaly am not in need of any new Alien or Predator films. The 4 Alien films are more than enough, and Predator 1 & 2 is plenty. I don't think an Alien v. Predator movie can contribute anything to American cinema. Maybe some cool special effects and one or two awesome fight scenes...but nothing worthwhile. Cameron and Scott are awesome directors and should spend their time on something esle when I can just play Aliens v. Predator...

I just hope Signorey Weaver isn't in it. The reason Aliens was so good was because of the Colonial Marines not the Ripley character. Get rid of her and cast a bunch of unknowns as marines and have them fight something new.

I do think that the first film, Alien, was by far the best in the series. So dark and foreboding. really athmospheric. Genuinely scarey and grusesome. One word: Chestbuster! Beautiful! But godamn it, Ripley and that fucking cat! "My crew are being slaughered, the ship is falling aart all around me....I better go get the cat!" I have to say I was a bit disppointed with Aliens, it was just a typical actiony type movie, with marines as mere cannon fodder, and aliens by the hundred! Alien did far better with a single alien, than Aliens did with hundreds of them. It just wasn't horrifying in any way. Alien 3 tried to go back to basics, with a single Alien versus a number of unarmed humans. It was a nice idea, and could have been a great film, but ultimately fell short. This has been blamed on the producers and the vaious exec's. Fincher was put in place as a pop promo video director: Someone they could push around. Not so with Fincher, he knew what he wanted to do, and was going to do things his way, unfortunately there was a lot of conflict, the whole film was butchered by ignorant hacks, and the fact that we were left with anything near coherrant has largely been put down to a miracle. Still, not a bad attempt from a first time director. and that ending! Alein: Ressurection: What the hell is this!? It ain't an Alien film, thats for sure! At least it had an interesting excuse to bring back Ripley...sort of. It had some nice scenes, but like Aliens, it felt to much like a bog standard "sci-fi"-action film. Except worse...where's the athmosphere? Where's the tension? Do we even give a fuck that all these space marines are being slaughtered? And you're trying to tell me, that you're using the great vaccum of space to kill the Alien AGAIN!? You're escaping from a detoning space ship AGAIN!? Had this not been an Alien film, I guess I would have just sat back and enjoyed it. So, essentialy the films have just gotten worse. When I head Ridley Scott was planning on doing an Alien 5, I was excited...the original director...maybe he can create a decent film. James Cameron AND Ridley Scott you say!? Sweeeet! Can't wait for this 5th film. Now you're telling me it's being scrapped!? That sucks. And on top of that, some cack handed dumbass is going to come and create some retarted piece of shit to add another irreverant sequel, which also happens to be based on a videogame (we know how sucessful THEY have been in the past!). Thansk man, great news. You just ruined my day! |

Depends on how it'd be structured. I'd be more interested in having the Predator as the protagonist than a bunch of anonymous space marines, that's for sure. There's so much they could do with the story it sends shivers up my spine

I have to admit, besides seeing Gary Busey sawed in half, the only other cool part of Predator 2 was when they show the Predator trophy rack on his ship, and it has an Alien skull amongst the rest. While I can't quite put my finger on it, somethin about that was just damn cool.

This could be potentially very interesting, provided they keep humans out of the movie. Think about it- a movie with no dialogue whatsoever (you'd have to figure out the plot yourself), and two different alien races battling it out- it would be like a sci-fi nature documentary!

ARGH! I hate paul anderson!!! When are these people going to see that he's a shitty director, and a very shitty game-to-movie director. Why why why!?
Well. Now that I have that out of my system, I'll see ya at the AvP premiere...

From what I remember reading in the stuff that came with the Alien DVD box set, the directors cut that is in the Quadrilogy is the best we are going to get...that for there to be a true director's cut, Fincher would have to remake the film since he never really was able to make it the way we wanted to originally.

It goes without saying that Anderson is going to fuck it up. Damnit, I hate that man with a passion. He's one of the reasons I'm considering pursuing a career in film. To fix all the genres and films that he ruined and then hunt him down and break his kneecaps.
If only films based on franchises with large followings took their ideas from the fans themselves...delivered a movie that the people want to see, not the producers. Fucking hollywood pricks. They should have written a script from AvP: Prey, using some subtitles of the Predator language (adding in some things about the main char, Machiko, and how she works with them and learns some of their language - using a method similar to The Last Samurai).

Trailer seems to be working, I just watched the large one. Spoiler: Looks like they've done some shooting, there were some new looking scenes, but I didn't see to much of the alien or the predator...

the actual footage seemed decent...the "pyramid" or whatever that those people excavate in Antarctica seems to have a pretty good atmosphere, it's dark, dusty, a bit claustrophobic. Interesting how they worked the alien mythos in with ancient civilization. After seeing some actual footage I'm a bit less apprehensive, but still...it's Paul Anderson...

Hmm, they'll probably fuck it up, but who knows...it sounds like a cool concept so far, in my opinion.
Who'll win.......? I say Predator, with all his bad-ass gadgets Alien won't stand a chance!

well it's never a one to one fight...according to the books, the predators hunt aliens by capturing a queen, and spreading her eggs across a planet, thus 'seeding' it for a hunt...then a pack of 5 or so will go down and make them extinct...so in that case, preds. definitely.

I have hope for this movie. It doesn't look bad at all from the trailers. There weren't any terrible one-liners (but we can't really judge it on that, no lines were said at all ), there were explosions, and the best part, there wasn't any terrible CG.

"Yo mamma" or something along those lines are always the worst. "Trying wearing a corset!" Terrible. I hate one-liners. I have a passion for hating them. The absolute worst is when the music builds up and up and up and everything slows down and the camera zooms in on a character and they say something that just isn't cool or funny. If you have the balls to do a one-liner, do it right Army of Darkness!
