I have lots and lots of favorite characters...but I'm going to have to go with Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino from the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Cussler. Dirk is an ass-kicker and Al is a smartass...they complement each other so nicely.

The Little Prince - The Little Prince, (Antoine de Saint-Exupery) Francie Nolan - A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (Betty Smith) Frankie Addams - Member of the Wedding (Carson McCullers) Ignatius Reilly, A Confederacy of Dunces(John Kennedy Toole) Winnie the pooh, Winnie the Pooh (AA Milne) Daisy head Maisy, Daisy head maisy (Dr Seuss) Big Brother, 1984 (George Orwell) Jo March, Little women (Louisa May Alcott) TS Garp, The world according to garp (John irving) Yuri Zhivago, Dr. Zhivago (Boris Pasternak) Marlow or Kurtz, Heart of Darkness(Joseph Conrad) (Thank you mrs RT in my 10 grade lit class for getting me to really understand this book and appreciate the characters) Dean Moriarty, On the Road (Jack Kerouac) Willy Loman, Death of a salesman (Arthur Miller) Such a sad character... I would have always put Willy wonka on my list of favorite book characters, but the god awful remake of the movie was just so awful, I really no longer like the character... I think it's really the first movie that really ruined a book for me.. (Book characters aren't real -people -- so there for a spider, and some cartoon characters should count right?

The first three dark tower books were amazing, I was less than impressed with the last four and only finished the rest of the series to say that I had. I read the first four about 5 years ago and loved the first three and was waiting big time for the new ones... only to be let down BIG TIME by the new ones.

Some of my darlings:
Alexander Smollett - Treasure Island, R L Stevenson (Because he takes no crap from smelly pirates nor bumbling squres.) Thomas Babbington - Aubrey/Maturin series, Patrick O'Brian (Because he's a pint-sized sex machine AND a kick-ass sailor and simply adorable/amusing. And he got propositioned to by a monkey and he ate the doctor's rat.) Vladimir Lensky - Eugene Onegin, Aleksandr Pushkin (WHY DID YOU KILL HIM ONEGIN YOU BASTARD!!!1!!ONE!) Gilderoy Lockhart - Harry Potter series, J K Rowling (You have to admire a con artist of that calibre. Also: he was so darn sweet in OotP.) |

Hmmm, as if y'all didn't already have me pegged as a Sci-Fi/Fantasy junkie:
Croaker - The Black Company (the annalist and Physician) by Glen Cook. Also Goblin and One-Eye Got to second Jon Snow from GRR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series, but he's my second favorite character. Eddard Stark is my favorite. I'm also really impressed by both Jamie and Tyrion Lannister (and all the Lannisters really - hateful people, most of them, but really well written), and Sandor Clegane. Benedict from Zelazney's Amber Series, Francis Sandow from several other Zelazney books and stories, and Yama from Lord of Light. Rudy Solis from Barbara Hambly's Darwath Trilogy. Morrolan from Steven Brust's Taltos and Khaavren series. Also, Vlad's Grandfather. Voilodion Ghagnasdiak (only for the name) from an episode in three of Michael Moorcock's books. Mr Croup from Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. "You can't make an Omlette without killin' a few people." Brendan Doyle from Tim Power's The Anubis Gates. Horst Badortes - The Fan Man by William Kotzwinkle Virgin Neil - Orbital Decay by Allen Steele YT - Snow Crash by Neal Stevenson. Silk - the Belgariad by David Eddings (which is pap, but fun to read.) Thlayli (Bigwig) - Watership Down. And, just to round it out, from Small Gods by Terry Pratchett, Brutha, Didactylos, and OM.

Yossarian from Heller's Catch 22.
Peter and Kate Sagamore from John Barth's The Tidewater Tales, A Novel, which I read while in college, and was the only book I've ever read that I was actually honestly sad to finish. Yorick from Y: The Last Man. Graphic novel characters count, right? |
