The pain of waxing that area

Ok so here's the deal. I shave my off my pubic hair like millions of other women but I'm getting tired of it. It grows back out in less than one day, it looks like crap until you shave again and then one gets those annoying little red spots.

So I'm considering waxing instead since it'll remove the hair about 4-6 weeks. But I've never done it before and I'm curious to know how painful it is by someone who's tried it.

I'd like to have some of my pubes, the hair on my legs and in my armpits removed permenently by laser treatment but until I can afford that this is the best option I have right now.

So tell me ladies - how bad is the pain?

I'm not gonna lie to ya.... It hurts. It really depends on how you tolerate pain. I just had a bikini wax - wasn't brave enough for the brazillian... The woman was really nice, she'd slap the wax on, apply the strip and smooth it out, then yank it off. After she yanked it she would lay her hand down on the area which helped quite a bit. After it was all done she applied some lotion to help with the swelling and redness.

If you get it done, take some asprine before hand, and wear baggy clothing. Save your tight jeans for another time

So I said ouch but I can handle the pain

oooh nice tip with the baggy clothes!

So if you do wax Averett why don't you get your whole body done (=legs, armpits) while you're at it?

Well I only did it once before I was supposed to go camping (didn't end up going anyway )... As far as legs/armpits, I don't think it's as much of a hassle shaving those. And the hair tends to grow back much finer in those areas. I'd bet the armpit would be pretty painful to get waxed, but the legs might not be. Legs tend to take quite a beating so the skin is tougher. At least my legs are constantly banged up and bruised!

Maybe try an at home kit first? I'm sure your drug stores must have some sort of at home waxing kit. Might be worth it to try that on your own, see how you'll handle the pain, then go get it done by the pros

You'd think that the bikini waxing is the most painful of those three

that depens on what the prices are of the individual options

Having legs waxed is pretty painless, but my legs are pretty muscular, and have taken years of abuse.

That other area, well. it's not exactly pleasant - -but depending on the skill of the waxer, it's either mild discomfort, or words that I'm not supposed to use... Get the reccommendation for a good waxer, don't just pick one out of the phone book, and don't go for the cheapest you can find either

I would not reccommend doing a at home brazilian type wax, you'd never get yourself into the positions that you need to get into -- the area will be sensitive for a few hours, and not sensitive in a good way... waxing beats shaving any day of the week though.

I got a brazilian and while it was definitely uncomfortable, it wasn't so painful that I wouldn't do it again. Less painful than a teeth cleaning, more painful than a pelvic. At least for me. There were only two spots that made my eyes water. Oddly enough, the mons hurt worse than the labia. *shrug* I thought it was worth it. 20 minutes of temporary ouch in exchange for not having to shave the dainty bits for 3 weeks. And the hair grows back soft and fine.

Someone once told me the best way to guage possible pain in an area is to use tweezers and pluck a few hairs from it, to test. Waxing is essentially the same thing, but more hair, all at once. If you can't stand the ouch from one or two hairs you pull, that'd give you a pretty good idea whether you'd tolerate a certain level of waxing.

I dunno about that tweezing thing.. When I had the wax done, there were a few smaller hairs that were left over, so the girl tweezed. That hurt a hell of a lot more than the waxing.

The tweezing is also the most painful part of having my eyebrows waxed...

As long as you have an experienced waxer, it really only hurts like hell during the initial RIIIIP and they're grabbing the hair only-- if the waxer is not experienced - -they don't pull the skin taut enough, of they haven't applied the wax correctly, and they're taking off a layer of skin with the wax (Pain doesn't begin to describe that)

Since it's all done at once, it's not that bad, it's the cleanup with the tweezers that m akes your eyes water... or at least mine

Crazy

I agree with finding someone who is expirienced. You certainly don't want someone who is learning how to do it. The very first rip is the worst, but it gets better after that. It's not completely comfortable but its not unbearable...at least not for me. For me the hardest part was the embarassment of spreading for a stanger, but they are completely professional and made me feel comfortable.

I think it'll be like that for me. I remember the first time I tweezed my eyebrows and how it felt like I was cutting my skin off with a scissor instead. But after the 4th time it already felt like a tiny sting with a needle instead so I guess I'll just have to endure the first couple of waxing before I ..or my skin gets used to it

- Use an experience waxer - of course!

- Do not play with the at home waxing kit *makes a note to self*

thanks male!

By the way! I saw this show about how men got more and more conscious about their looks and this particular episode was about "men and waxing". There was this one guy who looked like an unpenetratable forest of black hair from the waist and down and thus he got a regular waxing now and then. They filmed as the waxer was doing his crack and I'm telling you; the guy didn't move a damn muscle!
I know that you can get used to a certain pain but we're talking about the crack here! And that got me thinking.. do some waxers use a special wax that includes something that anaesthetizes the skin a bit?

dated a guy once who was going off to the islands with me and opted to have his back waxed before he went.... Cried like a girl, he did, and of course blamed me...

I guess everyone has different threshholds of pain...

I've never seen a wax that had an anesthetic in it -- but maybe the waxer applies a topical anesthetic before they begin?

The thing that I would be more afraid of then the pain would be the hair growing right back. Mine grows so fast I would be afraid that I would go though all that wax pain for nothing.

I get a brazilian regularly, and leave just a strip of hair on top. It hurts, but I don't think it's that terrible. It's very temporary pain, and the results really make up for that. It doesn't hurt after you've had it done, at least not for me. Just one thing - no matter what you do, don't shave that little bottom tip of the mons...that will make you cry... otherwise, definitely go for it!
