Stalker?
I decided to put this here instead of General Discusion because I want some girls-only advice.
For the past couple months I have had someone calling me on my cell phone- I don't know who. At first it only happened once a week or so in the middle of the night and I thought it was a wrong number, but then it started happening more often, a few times a week. The man would just call me and listen (I could hear breathing) on the other end of the line until I hung up, and then he would call back again and again until I turned my phone off. This happens at anywhere from midnight to ten in the morning. I get voice message after voice message of hang ups. Now, this would all be annoying but fine until this morning when I got a call right as I was waking up at 6:45 - and he proceeded to talk to me, asking me what I was wearing and other lude things. Now- I like to keep my phone on because my friends call me and my sister has called me in emergencies before, but I don't give my phone number out to very many people, and for a while I thought it was my ex boyfriend, but the number on caller ID is a blocked one and I'm not sure how he would get his hands on a phone with a blocked number. Safe to say, I am getting a little freaked out. Changing my number would be a complete hassle, but I don't really know what to do. Any Advice? |

um. That's freaky, and I'd probably change my number. I'd wanna know who the hell it is though. Isn't there a way to set your phone to not receive blocked calls?

Blocked or not blocked there has to be a way to trace the call from it's location. Call your phone company and find out if this is possible so you can stop him/her. It just may be that ex-boyfriend of yours or a friend of his/yours.

This is some advice from a male mod and I thought I would pass it along to you.....
her carrier should have records of all incoming and outgoing calls. She should probably keep a log of the time and date of these calls, then request that information from her carrier. Some carriers, however, may be a little reluctant to do so, as this this is not an income generating function. If so, then she may require a court order. That gets a little trickier, and involved and will require a police investigation. Now, I highly suspect that it's someone that she knows, playing little mind games. If the police, and subsequently the court, has to get involved, then she is going to have to steel herself to the fact that charges will be filed, and it is a federal offense. |

If it was me, I'd rather deal with the hassle of changing my number than deal with repeated "heavy breather" calls in the middle of the night.
The fact that he's started being obscene instead of just breathing is more than a little disturbing. You should report it to the police right now, if for no other reason than to have it on the record should things escalate. Easier to establish a pattern and get help if you make it official.

yeah i think you should call the cell phone company and tell them. ask them if they have any advice for when things like this happen. they might, and if not get in touch with the police.

Even if you don't change numbers or anything, try to get it documented that you called the phone company to request the info. The more paperwork you've got behind you, the easier'll be if you do decide to take any sort of action. I know on my phone bill I get a list of all the incoming numbers, but I haven't tried researching a blocked call.

I would DEFINATLEY go through the trouble of changing your #, because if he somehow found your # without being directly told by you, then I think that he might have the resouces to go around just about everything that you throw at him.
Good news that something was finally done about it though. I hope that you don't get anymore freaking "breathing" phone calls. ![]() Just a question, but you don't know ANYONE who would do this as a joke, and think it would be funny do you? Because if it turned out that it was someone that you knew all along...that would call for serious ass whooping!!

lots of good advice already mentioned ^
another low tech trick is to keep a whistle by your phone. when/if this freak gets through again, just blow the whistle into the phone as loud as you can.

You should file a compliant with police and then they will ab able to trace where from calls are coming from to your phone. Also let you friends and family know that your getting these calls, so they can be on the look out for you!

Everyone else has given you excellent advice, and I'm glad to see you have taken it. Good luck and know that my thoughts are with you. This sounds like a very stressful situation so I encourage you to make sure you are taking care of yourself in here -- take time for you (away from all phones maybe.)

How about an update, pinklily? Did changing your account settings so they'd have to unblock their number work? Have the calls stopped?

Wow...that is quite freaky. I am sorry you are having to deal with that. If the calls dont stop, I would definitly consider changing your number. Even if it is a hassle, it is far better than being creeped out and scared every time this guy calls u. Good luck sweetie.
