Nipple piercings
I really really really want to get my nipple(s) pierced. I am willing to go through all the pain it involves and everything, but there's just one big doubt I have. What about when I'm older and want to have babies, will I be able to breastfeed, or are there some complications involved? Does anyone have any experience with this?
Sorry if this has been done, I couldn't do a search. I appreciate the help girls!

From a quick google search, this website link came up:
http://www.lalecheleague.org/llleade...nJul99p64.html It basically says that piercing will not have an effect on your ability to breastfeed, but two points I thought were noteworthy: 1. They reccomend a healing time of 10-16 months, so most piercers will not pierce a pregnant woman. 2. The only time there seemed to be problems with the piercings is when the mother tried to breastfeed while leaving the jewelry in. That's dangerous since the baby can choke, and they seem to have problems latching on and sucking. I have not had any personal experience, but the article seemed to be pretty well documented with research.

Ok,
My best friend, and many of my other friends have very recently gone and gotten at least one of thier nipples pierced. And I'll be happy to tell you that none of them say that it hurts too bad at all, so don't worry about that. Just don't wear a bra home, and a barbell is better than a ring at first, because it doesn't get caught on everything like rings do. Rings also tend to move around a lot more, and that can really hurt a lot in the early healing stages. But as for the breastfeeding, the only thing that I would recommend is taking it out well before thats even a prob. Good luck! |

I had my nipple pierced before i had a kid. Took it out when I got preggers, breast feed for three years, and then got it repierced when I was done. It never seemed to be an issue for my child. She breast fed forever! I got it repierced to help with the weaning process.

I have my nipple pierced. Acually i had to do it two different times. The first time i got it done with a hoop and made the mistake of not wearing a bra home, and that was the biggest mistake. if you get it done wear a bra and get it pierced with a large barbell if its to small the balls will embed themselves into y our nipple! good luck

I'm sure it would look sexy isis. My friend got his pierced last weekend by this guy who didnt have a license so he only charged 10$. He discovered theres a good reason why they give out licenses, he was in pain for a while.

i heard you're supposed to not wear a bra if possible because it lets the area breath. however, one of my friends who has bigger breasts asked her piercers and they said it wasn't that big of a deal, because she obviously wouldn't be comfortable walking around with no bra on. i never really thought i'd like it that much, but i don't think i'd be surprised if i ended up getting it sometime...i'm really glad to hear about this breastfeeding issue, i've always wondered. thanks gals.

Here's the down-low. If you're amply endowed, that whole "don't wear a bra" thing is a crock of shit. When I had mine pierced, I had to wear a sportsbra for a week (Yes, I did wash it every night to keep all the goobers off my fresh piercings) before I could even THINK of reaching for my normal bras. I found that the constant movement of my breasts (I was a DD at the time) when braless only aggrivated my piercings; I went without support for one day and boy did I have to make up for it for the next several weeks with the salt soaks...

In any case, breastfeeding while you have your nipples pierced is no big deal; Just remember to remove your jewellery when you've got the kid attatched and you'll be fine.
For more information on piercings, risks, and pretty much anything associated, I highly recommend http://www.bmezine.com. This question has been brought up in the "Ask BME" section many a time, and the Glossary/Risks sections are a veritable treasure trove of information. |

I love my nipple piercings! I've had 11 piercings in all and they're DEFINATELY my favorite. Before I got them done I felt pretty blah about how my breasts looked, but now I think they're sexy as hell. The heightened sensitivity is also a major plus.
And Isis, I would think that getting your nipples pierced could possibly correct the inverted nipple situation. Before I got mine done my nipples were somewhat flat, didn't really stand up from my breast, but now that they're done they have a much nicer "out there" look to them. Just a theory, though. And my 2cents on the bra convo- I would reccomend a comfortable sports bra or cotton bra. Something that won't move around too much, which can irritate a new piercing. Going bra-less will do that. (Unless, you're toppless, which I primarily was the few weeks after I got mine done). |

Hey ladies, I'd like to get my nipples pierced, but I'm just concerned about some of the possible consequences. You all addressed my breastfeeding questions already, but I have one other quick question for those of you who do have nipple piercings - Once the initial healing period is over, can the piercing ever be taken out? Also, how bad is the scarring, and is there any noticable difference in the appearance of your nipples when the piercing is out? Thanks for the help!
And as long as we're talking piercings - anyone have their navel pierced? I have basically the same concern with taking it out and appearance with that piercing too. Thanks again!

I have both nipples done and my belly done. As far as my belly is concerned, the hole is a little noticable when you take the ring out. I was more concerned with how naked my belly looked anyway. As far as nipples, I just got mine done (YAY!) so I can't answer your question about the scarring. After the healing period, you can take the jewelry out, but dont leave it out too long or youi'll close up

I have both my nipple and my belly button done- everyone I've seen take theirs out has had minor scarring left over.
I've never taken my nipple piercing out, going on 8 years now, but my nipple is no worse for the wear- doesn't look scarred or anything. I did have a girlfriend of mine who didn't take exceptional care of it, and she wound up with scar "nubs" on either side of the ring. Also, I wear a C cup, and had it pierced with a ring - bra never bothered me, but wearing NOTHING certainly did for a good long while. Also, mine bled quite a bit- which I wasn't expecting. I think it spotted my bras and shirts for about 3-4 days after it was pierced. Granted, that week I was ran into pretty hard by a kid who just happened to be boob-height. That probably didn't shorten the healing process at all! Overall, I highly recommend it. Good Luck!

Well I went and got my left nipple pierced on Wednesday. I realised after I'd gotten it done that I sleep predominately on my left side, so that took a bit of getting used to. It aches ocationaly, and it really hurt when it was pierced, and for about an hour afterwards it felt like someone was biting it hard but after that it was all worth while. I wore a bra the first day, but since I'm relatively small I haven't bothered since, clothes brushing against it have an interesting effect and not just on it. The unpierced nipple has become just sensetive as the pierced one, which is great because my nipples were never very sensitive to start with. Now I want something else to pierce !

I'm curious to know if it brings on more of an erotic feeling once the nipple is pierced? I've experimented with clamps, clothespins and I enjoyed the way it made my nipples feel. Increased the satisfaction during sex for me also.

I've had both of mine for roughly 2 years now and have experienced increased sensitivity and satisfaction, but beware, whoever is on the other end of them needs to be careful and not rip the skin or this could potentially get ugly.

yeah, ouch, i'll remember that. I caught mine on something for the first time(two weeks exactly after getting it), it didn't bleed but i hurt for about a day. Its back to not hurting, now which is great.
A quick question, how long did yours take to completely heal? I've heard anywhere from a month to six. Lisa |

the length varies for healing time, i mean, under some silly notion,i pierced my nipple myself, and it didn't get infected (and to this day hasn't as well) and i've had it done for almost a year now... took very very short time to heal, in the sense that it wasn't uncomfortable for *ahem* attention

Taking it Out??
I've had my nipple pierced for over two years now, and I am considering taking it out. I loved it at first, but I think I have had my fill of fun. I have a few concerns though. First, as many of you probably know.. the nipple with the ring is VERY sensitive (in a good way...) but I am worried that the sensation will be less than before I had it pierced. Secondly, I am worried that it will heal funky. I have never heard any stories, but I would assume that there would be scar tissue. I have tried to look online, but I cant find out any information on either issue.
If any of you out there have any insight to share with me it would be greatly appreciated!! |

So what guage are you guys wearing and/or getting pierced at? I've heard that if you get something too small they can get rejected by your body alot easier. I know that alot of the jewelry is at least 18 gauge and I'd think that you wouldn't want something too big for obvious reasons.
Does anyone know if the size has an effect on breast feeding or healing?

From what I've heard, when breastfeeding, the milk doesn't just come out the front, it comes out from multiple little holes, so I imagine nipple piercings would just be a couple extra holes.
I had a guy friend who had his nipples pierced, and they were never "soft" again... always erect, even when he took the piercings out. So if you don't mind having that cold look, then go for it. =) As for gauge size, my belly ring is a 14 gauge, so I imagine that nipples are a 16. When I take my ring out, there's a small hole, but I haven't let it close up, so I don't know about scarring.
