At what point should I freak out? (Heavy menstration and terrible pain)
My period has been VERY heavy. I change my super duper absorbency tampon every 1.5 hours to 2 hours. The pain is horrendous. However, they don't feel like the cramps I normally get. Usually I cramp a day before and first day of and then I'm good. It has been a constant dull pain for the past 4 days.
I JUST had a pap last week and everything was fine. I'm wondering if I should just call my doctor and ask him what to do. I have other medical problems and am very tired of going to see medical professionals. Three years ago I bled for a month straight. After passing out at work, my co-workers MADE me go to the doctor. (yeah, it got THAT bad before I did something about it.) I had an ultrasound and nothing was there. I've been on birth control ever since to regulate my cycle. My mother died of endometrial cancer, so I don't want to take this lightly. I also don't want to think that every time I have the slightest issue with my girlie bits that I have cancer. I think I know what advice you will give me, but I suppose I just need to hear it. |

I'd call the doctor for reassurance.
Is there a chance that the pap has something to do with it? I usually have horrible cramps and some spotting after a pap smear, even if the pap is done in the middle of my cycle. Have you ever had that sort of reaction before?

If you are uncomfortable and missing work, call your doctor.
If you are worried about possible cancer, ask for a work-up. Take care.

I'm all for using tampons, but try switching to pads for a day or so. That might help with the cramping a little bit. I would still call your doctor, though. You can at least talk to one of the nurse practitioners to see if they can give you any good advice.

Ticki wicki woo –
I agree with all the above – However, my current girlfriend has painful cramps during her cycle – so we did a little research. So when you have your next monthly – Try masturbation, hey its healthy - help calm down those cramps if they are painful so that's a (Plus) anyways... Orgasm releases endorphins that have a pain reducing affect and helps with them nasty cramps. Works for my baby – |

Yes, try pads until you can get into the doctor; the switch may help. Personally, I can't use tampons until the last couple days of my period because they make the cramps worse.

Nothing showed up on the ultrasound, so I just have to "monitor" my cycle next month. |

I had the same problem a few years ago but I also got incredibly horrible lower back pain and apparently it's normal for your cycle to change over time. As we age and change mentally and physically, our periods can sometimes partake in the change. It's annoying. But of course it's always good to double check with your doctor if you're worried.
