How do you put on your bra? NSFW

This is a Ladies Lounge thread for obvious reasons. If any men have tips for putting on a bra, feel free to PM a female and have them post your suggestions. Just realize it could seem a bit creepy to have male input on this one.

Do you have a special way that you put on your bra?
Did someone teach you a trick that made your breasts more perky or comfortable?
_________________________________________________________________

When I went in for my wedding dress fitting, the seamstress taught my bridesmaids and I how to put on a bra. I felt pretty dumb when she showed me. I have been wearing my bras improperly for many years. They have never fit comfortably. I had never thought of asking someone to help me put one on. Her concept was simple, really. You're supposed to lift your girls into the bra, tipping the nipples up to encourage perk.

Here's a little tutorial:

1) Hold your girls when you're not wearing a bra. The more you let gravity rule, the more they'll fall. (image 1)

2) Clip your bra.

3) While bending over, put on your straps. Ease your girls in one at a time, cupping them in your hands with nipples pointing up. (image 2)

4) Straighten bra, still bending over. (image 3)

5) Stand up straight and smile. (image 4)

Sorry about the poor image quality. Hopefully they help you figure out what I'm talking about.

It was more of the "Oh my goodness it actually feels good to wear a bra!" experience that appealed to me more than the fact that it looks better.

So, Nikki, do you not wear a bra? How do you put yours on when/if you do wear one?

That strikes me as a bit ceremonial for them to go in one by one and point the nipples up. It's also way uncomfortable (for me anyway) to get them squished that way. But that's close to what I do for fitting the rest of it in. I just do it faster by bending over right after I clasp it.

As I bend over a bit, I pull the the lower outside edges of the underwire out and away to let them fall up (down?) a bit so that the skin the bra catches against is further out and more of the boobies actually live inside the cups. There is probably a bit of a shimmy involved, but I haven't really paid too much attention. The idea is just to pull the bra away almost as it if is wet and uncomfortable and to jog the breasts loose so they fall naturally into the cups the way they want to fall. I never thought of how it made my boobs look a certain way, but it always just happened to feel best with my bra cup around the skin where it feels to me like my breasts end.

I am pretty picky about the nipple thing too, I guess. I need them to point straight ahead in the cup and not be bent over, up, down or whatever. That makes me lean forward at just the exact angle it takes for them to point forward so I can ease them in and pull the edges around the rest of it.

Good grief, I never realized how particular I am about this process. It's weird what we do every day!

I think the best thing I ever did for my boobs was to get them measured at Victoria's Secret. Too bad that was only a few months ago, instead of a loooooong time ago... but better late than never, right? I've been wearing 36C bras for most of my adult life... turns out at VS, I'm a 34DD. Yeah. It was a little scary. But I bought the right size, and have been feeling Oh-So-Supported ever since then. I don't know if that makes them more perky or not (I never bend over or anything when I put my bra on--I just clip and fit them in, and make sure the nipples are even), but they just FEEL better in there.

Thank you for VS, right?

When I bought my first VS bra and the salesperson came to check the fit was when I realized I'd been stuffing the twins into too small a size.

My method is pretty much like that in the photos, except I don't do the bending, I just do a slight manual adjustment if needed.

Yup.... being fitted for your bra is the best way to wear a bra.... I couldn't be doing with all the bending over and slottin' 'em in one by one.... a good fitting bra, shove it on, shove 'em in and they'll look fantastic no matter the ceremony!

How am I supposed to hook the bra if I'm holding the twins?

I'll stick to hook in thr front, turn to the back and lift it up and over.

ngdawg, I have done it that way for years myself.

I was surprised recently while watching a film though when I saw a girl put her bra on then hook it up behind her. I can't do that, only to unhook it. I'd be fiddling for ages before I got the hooks in! I thought "I have to try that some time". Granted she was rushing to leave the room after a one night stand.

I think the method genuinegirly is suggesting probably is effective for women with larger breasts than mine. I'm sitting here thinking, my nipples just point forward, I can't point them up or down on demand heh.

GG before I had a baby I NEVER wore a bra. I was an "A" and just didn't really need any help holding them up or in place Now since I have had a child I am a small "B" and I usually wear a bra if I go out because they tend to "jiggle" a little bit more then they used to. I like the bras that you just pull over your head and are made very thin kinda like a sports bra but without all that material. Any kind I wear has to be super comfortable and NO UNDERWIRE that stuff makes me feel like I am wearing a strait jacket.

I had the same problem as well. I had been wearing a 36C for the longest time. I always hated my bras and would only wear victoria secrets. But, I went into victoria secrets and had them measure me. I'm actually a 35DD....but I'm still in denial...so I moved up to a 36 D. They feel better and I've found that other brands work better on me as well. I can now feel good in an off brand. I guess I'm slowly getting used to the idea that i have large breast...i just didn't realize HOW large they really were...

Supple - I tried your method this morning and it didn't seem to work. I guess my girls need a little extra guidence.
Abaya - I got myself fitted at the Victoria's Secret. The clerk did the tape thing, asked me if I was wearing a padded bra, then found her supervisor. (huh? no comment?) She came back and said "We don't make your size, but you should try its "Sister size". After showing the clerk the terrible fit of their "Sister size", the clerk told me my actual size. Found a few at Macy's and I'm a happy camper.
Little_Tippler - I always hook mine in the back. Thought everyone does that. Eh, maybe my physiology is odd. Before I placed each girl carefully into the cups, my nipples were always somehow pointing out and a little down. They always felt smashed and would get irritated. Terribly uncomfortable!
NGDawg - Once you bend over, you don't need to hold the girls.
Nikki - You're a lucky one. I didn't appreciate underwire until I was a D.
Maybird - It's a wonderful moment (for the checkbook) when you realize you can find something that fits in an off-brand.

I put on bras the same way ngdawg does. And I love my VS bras--they wear better and fit better than any other brand I've tried, and I've tried everything from the Target brands to Hanes to Bali to Vanity Fair and anything in between. They might be spendy in the beginning, but in the long run they save me money because I get more use out of them than other brands.

This reminds me that I need to go bra shopping soon. I haven't bought a new bra in...2 years now?

I never paid much attention to how I put my bra on. It is definitely noticeable that when you lift your breasts into your cups that your cleavage has a nicer appeal, I have also found it more comfortable to wear.

gg - I don't even know what I was saying. I really swore that that's how I put my bra on every day, but I guess I don't because I didn't do any of that bending over business this morning. I think I just slip it on, clasp it in the back (or the front if it's the front clasping one), then just kind of adjust it. Usually adjusting means pulling out and down to scoop up all the boob material around the edges and then sometimes reaching in the top to unbend a nipple if it went in funny. I must have been delirious when I wrote all of that last night... some kind of lingerie fairy tale!

In my defense, I *may* actually do that leaning forward stuff when I'm on my period and my nipples are really sensitive. I am pretty sure I lean forward and place them in the cups very gingerly when they are tender so that I don't have to disturb them once they're in. So that's kind of close to what I described before, minus the jiggling.

I never really gave it much thought. I hook it in the front, turn it to the back and lift the straps up my shoulders. But now you girls have me wanting to go to VS and treat myself to some really good bras and getting measured. I have no idea if I am wearing the right size or style. All I know is, as soon as I get home from work, the bra comes off.

Go get measured. Bra wearing becomes much more comfortable if you're wearing a bra that fits.

I'm an A, and even I figured out that my breasts look more appealing if they are picked up into the cups of my bra. I learned the "lift and squeeze" method when I was getting fitted for a corset.. and wow, does it work when you get tightlaced.

This will be different depending upon the style of the bra. Your breasts should not bulge uncomfortably.

Yes. You want the center piece of the bra to rest against your skin between your breasts.

After reading this thread, I actually went and tried genuinegirly's method. Perhaps the effect is greater for larger breasted women, but pointing the nipples up makes a huge difference. I had always just made sure they were lined up straight. Thanks for the tip.

Bra around the waist, flip it around, pull up, lean over, shake and lift the twins in, and flip up. I do the nipple check to make sure they are aligned and I can see they are looking out!

The correct bra does change over time - as bodies change. I range from a 36DD to a 35C. (Have to love half sizes!), and I routinely go to Macy's to be fitted. Different bras types and brands may mean slightly different cup sizes. Bummer that to have great full boobs, I need to carry an extra 25lbs. Should be happy the SO is an ars guy - LOL. I however, LOVE good cleavage as it makes me feel sexy.

^_^ I meant to post sooner in this thread.
I guess I'm an oddball when it comes to putting my bra on. I slide it onto my shoulders, grab the clasps behind me, pull them across my back, and hook them up.
Then I adjust my breasts inside the bra until I'm happy with the way they feel and look.

...yup, I hook my bra while its on from behind, like in the movies. haha.
I didn't always put it on that way. It started a few years back. The whole twisting the bra around you and sliding on the straps bothered me alot.

Besides, I find putting it on this way ensures good lift inside the bra...with my arms behind my back , my breasts perk up on my chest, and are supported perfectly.

Settie I do the exact same thing. I always thought I was a larger B or a smaller C. Turns out I'm a 38C! Almost being a D seems crazy since they don't seem that large to me. But the larger size is more comfortable.

I slide my bra on in the front, clasp it from behind and adjust when necessary. Happy boobies! When I run I wear an extra tight sports bra to keep them in place. The bra is hard to put on and take off but it does the job. My roommates with slightly larger breasts refuse to run because of their boobs. I've heard of many ways to help counteract this...

I always thought there was just the one way of doing it - slip it on, bend forwards, hands behind back to fasten clasp, stand up straight. Only takes seconds, and if the bra is a good fit, you're ready to go.

I got fitted at VS this summer again, I go every once in awhile to ensure a good fit. (Now I have bras in many sizes, hehe) I'm also a 38C! I don't even think my boobs look that big, but hey, the fit is perfect and so comfortable, and that's all that matters to me.

I also do the same as you do when I run, or am doing rough-ish work...put on a tight sports bra. Or, in the past, worn two sports bras together...it takes some getting used to, but your boobs sure as hell won't move! But sports bras have changed since I've done that (gosh, that was already 6 years ago) little trick.

The whole cupping them when you're not wearing a bra to prevent 'falling' is absolute BS. They need space and time to breathe and circulate. It's like saying you need to hold your head up even if you're lying down. I do adjust the girls one at a time, after I put the bra on. But why go through those strange steps to achieve that?

Because it works nicely for me. To each their own. The point of the thread is not to teach people how to put on a bra, but rather to discuss how each person does it, and to discuss why they chose their method. I explained my method, and why I loved it. I was not intending to push my ideas on anyone else. I am open to trying many methods of putting on bras and figuring out what works best for me. I have tried many methods mentioned by others in this thread. I enjoy the diversity of methods for this basic, every-day task.

What works for you, mixedsubstance?
How do you prefer to put on your bra?
What tricks have you learned to keep your "girls" happy?
You mentioned adjusting them one at a time after you put it on, but how and why?
