women and guns
Hey ladies! I wanted to fire something up that is a little different to see what comes of it.
Here soon I would like to own a gun. Naturally, I will be taking all the necessary courses in hopes to gain what knowledge I can. But along the way, I wanted to see if any of the ladies here owned guns, liked to shoot, or have always wanted to but have not had the chance. Tell me what you think about this male dominated sport and if you ever have been or wanted to be involved. Side Note- this is a heated topic, and I hope that we can avoid the gun control change in topic. Throw out your thoughts, you are welcome to, but keep on the subject so we dont have a mud slinging political fight. take that to politics please. There's a reasonI avoid that place.... thanks gals!

I had (until my ex pawned them for crack) a .38 special and a glock 9mm. By far my favorite to shoot was the 9mm, I was much more accurate with it than the .38
the only problem I had was the very first time I shot it at the range I was wearing a low cut top and when the jacket ejected it went straight down my shirt and got caught in my bra and burned me lol After that I never shot without something covering me from the neck down. I've shot rifles, but honestly, or at least the ones I shot, I didnt enjoy because I always ended up not holding it right and my shoulder would kill me from the kick (except for the .22) Good for you on wanting to learn!!!

I've never fired a gun, never even held a gun and have no desire whatsoever to own a gun. *shrug*

I've gone shooting before with a friend's gun collection. I would have enjoyed it more if A) I was better at it and B) the guy at the end wasn't shooting something so unbelieveably loud that even through my ear plugs it sounded like someone hitting a metal dumpster with an aluminum baseball bat.
I need to think about what I need/want to do for self-defense now that I'll not have built-in defenses...I still think that the statisics of people being attacked by their own guns is a highly compelling reason to not keep one in the house, but I'm not completely convinced not to have one at all. And self defense would be the only reason I'd have a gun. I'm not "into" them, otherwise.

I have shot several pistols (don't know the exact kind) and a .22 rifle. The rifle was really fun to shoot because it has a low kick and if the jacket hits you, it doesn't burn much. I had trouble shooting most of the pistols because of the kick.
It sounds like you want to shoot at a range rather than having a gun for self defense and if that is the case, there are ways to store it so that if someone does get to it, they can't hurt themselves with it. Have fun!

I enjoy guns personally. I went shooting for the first time this past spring with JStrider and it was a blast...pardon the pun. I got to learn how to shoot an AR-15, Barretta Storm (a gun designed by the world renown Prada), and two other 9mm handguns.
When I have a house of my own I will own a gun. I would have no problem using one to defend myself in the least, although according to dreams I've been having lately I believe I could take care of an intruder with a knife also. |

Last time I shot anything was a custom Colt .45 handtooled for my crazy ex-stepdad-in-law. It was pretty, kicked like a sonovabitch, and I couldn't hit a thing.... but damn I had fun. If I thought I could actually hit stuff I might be more interested.
eta: at first glance, I thought the topic was "women and puns". I have officially lived with ratbastid too damn long.

Okay, to keep conversation going-
Having an interest such as this obviously means you will be in a male dominated area. Has anyone ever incurred the stigmas behind it or seen anything sexists attitudes as such? Please share!

I havent.....and I think it would be pretty stupid of any man to act that way around a woman with a loaded weapon hehehehe
seriously, in all the times I've been shooting I have never ever seen any "attitude" with "guys". They are usually most helpful (and not in that "take your car to get work done on it patronizing way")
