Ashes to Ashes...

Fan: Dumped mom's ashes on field
Quote:
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A man arrested for running onto the field during the Philadelphia Eagles' game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday told police he was spreading his late mother's ashes.

Christopher Noteboom, of Tempe, Arizona, ran onto the field holding a plastic bag, leaving a cloud of fine powder behind.

As he reached the 30-yard line, he dropped to his knees, made the sign of the cross and laid down on his stomach. Security personnel reached him moments later and he offered no resistance as he was escorted from the field.

The 33-year-old Noteboom, a native of Doylestown, said his mother died of emphysema in January 2005, shortly before the Eagles' Super Bowl appearance.

"She never cared for any other team except the Eagles," Noteboom told WPVI-TV after he was released from custody Monday.

"I know that the last handful of ashes I had are laying on the field, and will never be taken away. She'll always be part of Lincoln Financial Field and of the Eagles."

Noteboom, a bar owner in Arizona, was charged with defiant trespass. He has a hearing scheduled for December 27.

"It's bizarre, but we have a zero tolerance for people who run on the field," Police Inspector William Colarulo said. "We especially have a zero tolerance for people who run onto the field and dump an unknown substance in a stadium full of people."

Eagles spokeswoman Bonnie Grant said the team has declined requests to spread ashes on the field.
that's a good reason for running onto the field.. I suppose...

Years back, when the father of a friend of mine passed away, this man was an avid golfer and his mother decided that he'd really want his ashes spread out on the golf course of the country club he spent so much time at... So at about 2:00am one morning... We spread the ashes on the fareway of the 11th hole.. It was the hardest hole...

If you plan on being creamated when you die, if you are planning on dying.. what do you want done with the ashes?

Can anyone say, Ricin or Anthrax? Some guy runs into a crowded stadium and dumps an unknown dust into the air... Lucky someone didn't shoot him.

As for when I die... I will be cremated... I have no idea what to do with the ashes. I don't really want a monument, I'd rather my kids spend any money I have left on themselves.

If my organs are still salvageable, I hope I'm gutted for everything they can get out in time.. after that, I suppose cremation.. just to save space.

Until recently, I had no desire to be cremated. But then I began to think: since I'm an organ donor, who's to say there will be much left anyhow? I know where I want to be spread: Hug Point, Oregon. It's my favorite place on the Oregon Coast.

Perhaps this is a bit morbid, but it's also the place I'd like to be married.

Never really gave cremation much thought. Just a funeral, with military honors. Military headstone, not one of those flat ones either, I want a standing one. Even if it's just the guy that has to actually mow around me, and not over top of me, someone is gonna remember that I was not only here, but also that I was a pain in the ever lovin' ass.

I don't have any specific place picked out for my ashes. I'll leave that up the kids I've yet to spawn. Maybe they'll spread me some place nice (assuming that my kids, you know...like me) that reminds them of their dear old dad.

A very good friend died last spring. His son took his ashes to several race tracks (even Le Mans) as John was a huge race fan. I like that. I would consider cremation. But not to have my ashes sit in a urn on the mantle. Spread them somewhere meaningful.

I wonder if the person that ran on the field ever considered call the team to see if they would allow him to do this at another time? Wonder what the team would have said?

I'm all for the donor thing, but I don't think it will be possible due to many ongoing health issues. I have told my family that I want to be cremated. I want to be put in an urn until all my children are grown and out of the house. Then divided into five parts so my husband and each of my children can release me in their own way and own special place. This way I will always be close if they need a mother to listen. And when the time is right I will be put to rest in a very special way.

I'm an organ donor (talk to you loved ones about this, please) and I hope to have my remains cremated. Where to put the ashes, though, hmmm.

The best I've ever seen was Mark Gruenwald, a writer and editor at Marvel Comics. I know what you're thinking, Gilda, making a comic book reference? You've got to be kidding me.

Anyway, Gruenwald was the writer of a 12 issue series in the mid 1980's called Squadron Supreme. It was based on analogues of the Justice League characters in an alternate world where they decide fighting bad guys in tights isn't enough, and decide to take over the country and turn it into a utopia. Squadron Supreme was Gruenwald's favorite piece of his own work.

He had requested that he be creamated when he died, and his acses mixed in with the printing ink of a comic book, so then editor Bob Harras did just that, having Gruenwald's ashes mixed in with the ink used to print the first edition of the trade paperback for Squadron Supreme. Fans who bought that first trade literally own a piece of the author.

For me, I think I'd prefer that my ashes go somewhere meaningful to Grace, but my choice would be to have them scattered into the ocean just outside her parents' home in Hawaii. It's where I remember the two of us being happiest together.

Gilda

I would like my ashes put into a trophy. This trophy would be presented to the most outstanding military unit of the year. As an international event, soldiers would have to compete at a very high level.

The trophy would also come with a Million dollar prize, like the Nobel Prize. Think of it like the Anti-Nobel prize. He was fostering peace and science, whereas I would like to foster military skills.

Gilda, I remeber reading about this in the trade paperback and vaugely hoping I didn't have a first edition. I think it's a cool idea but...

GH, have no fear, I'll happily give you a viking funeral. Do you have a pool?

As for me, I want everything useful donated and the rest burned. There's a place where some friends and I camp and play music every summer. I hope they can take me there and I can spend one more weekend with them, then scatter me to the wind.

The thought of being buried in a bad suit, under an 1/8" of makeup grosses me out, so I'll be going the cremation route. I'd like my ashes mixed into the soil in a protected forest.

Remember the scene in The Big Lebowski, where they toss Steve Buscemi's ashes to the wind, only to have the cloud fly back into their faces? I'd like to avoid that.

Same for me, Guthmund. I strongly dislike the idea of burial.

I think I'd like to have my ashes spread in a couple places. One would be the plot of land where my home has been for the last 20+ years (which will be destroyed within 6 months and replaced with suburban shit-houses... but at least the land will still be there). That is where I grew up and it is the piece of earth that I feel the most attachment to.

Another place would be somewhere over water. Perhaps a little bit in the Lake Washington Ship Canal (or Puget Sound, or Lake Washington, one of the above), and a little bit over the Atlantic and/or Pacific. Those waters bridge my three countries of origin.

Mountains are nice too. But I guess there's only so much of me.

Funerals are for the living and people need to say goodbye, so the most important thing for me would be the funeral service. Not so they can blow smoke up my ass about what a great guy I was, just so the family can say their farewell.

I don't really care, cremation or burial. I just want to 'return to the earth' if that makes sense. So scatter my ashes somewhere or bury me somewhere. But if I'm to be buried, I want daisies planted on my grave. I wanna be the one pushin 'em up
