I Love Your Handle

How interesting each member's name / handle / zodiak is.

What do you call it, really? You know, the techno-geek term?
Your ID thingy, right?
I'm sure mine seems more boring than most. Yah, "zz0011," now there's one what's gonna be a barn burner fer shure. Mrs. O of Chicago has a cow what's got real in-security issues NOW, babee. Big time. Oh yeah.
Not.
But I think it would make fascinating reading how we all came to choose the handle we have.
So how about posting the story of yours?
And how about posting it here?
And how about trying to keep it like a Fruit of the Loom: brief?
Say maybe one text box without making the scroll bar appear? One precious paragraph dropped ever so graciously on us.
And how do I get unstuck from axing so many questions?
And I know what you're thinking: you hippo-crite. Purposefully spelled: see my pro-file. Or my aunti-file. Or my uncle-file. Or even my nail-file. What do I care what you do on your time?
But right. So Z's not posting HIS certainly sorry story. AND he's well past the point of making that scroll bar thingy pop up. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

So fair's fair. As soon as I can remember, I'll share. In the mean time: inspire me, dudes and dudettes.

I was Prince of Darkness on the old board, but after the server crashed and everything was wiped out, I tried to re-register with that handle, but the system wouldn't let me (I guess someone else beat me to it or something), so I did Lucifer instead. I think it's a cool name.

hot damn! It's amazing at what we find out about each other on this board. I too had a classical education, never thought anybody would pick up on the Hellenistic aspect of the name (although I did get a nice note from Amonkie who is a Dune fan as well).

Soo.. what is the source of your handle Charlatan?

-- Willravel, thanks, you made me read your handle carefully. Up to now, I've been reading it Will Travel... By the way, i've logged the Bolero as one of my fav intrumentals in another thread.

I'm pretty sure I've posted this elsewhere but since you asked... Back in the early 90s I started using the name Charlatan while I was browsing BBSs. It comes from two places.

The school paper at Carleton University was called The Charlatan... and my best friend would often shout out, for no apparent reason, "Baudelaire! Charlatan!" We were ususally drunk or high at the time so it was immensely funny.

Nothing too outrageous there...

Oh, I so agree.

Personally, I love this little owl here:

but didn't want people confusing me with this Hedwig:

as I knew was likely to happen. Therefore, I became onesnowyowl. Or snowy, as most people refer to me. As I have some characteristics commonly attributed to owls (nocturnal, preys on small animals, intelligent, sharp claws) I find it to be a most appropriate name.

This is still to being very much fun to me.

zz0011 -- When I first was coming online on another service [Which?] I tried several combinations of obvious [my first name, etc.] and less so [things I thought were cool] and wow did find out quick how late I was to the game. All the good ones were gone. In a moment of frustration, I simply wanted to find something no one else had, nor would be likely to choose. Now I use it for most things [although I use my real name on a few sites to help me manage what I'm getting from whom in my email].

Yah, y'all can yawn now. Twice. Boring.

My first internet provider was AOL (I was young and dumb!)

Me and my friend were setting it up and we wanted to think of a name that the AOL lady(who hears tons and tons of these names every single day) would find funny.

If you can impress someone who'se job is to listen to usernames, that's pretty good eh?

So we came up with Menopphair, first glance it's like "Me Nop Fair" but when she asks me to spell it :P " Me No PP Hair" Needless to say it got her to chuckle so I won the day on that one.

After awhile it got boring so I changed it to Menolithoro when I started to play Everquest, "Menolithoro Drakenite" Then after awhile I got tired of people pronouncing that one wrong (to me it's pronounced "Me No Lee Thor O" but some people wanted to say it as "Meh No Lith Oro"

So I changed it to Menoman, I still use Menolithoro for gaming though.

People will pronounce Menoman wrong though, Me No Man! NOT Meh No man!
