HONESTLY! This is why I love TFP...
I love that with the exception of a few Aussies on this board, I can generally understand the posts made on TFP. This isn't true for every other board I read, and I usually end up back here because of that..
Can anyone even translate this? I pride myself on being able to decipher the most l33t of l33t, but this is ridiculous: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35350 A few snippets: Quote:

Yeah it's more of a slang thing than l33t speak. Just a subculture you/we arn't appart of, it's no surprise we can't understand them too well as you wouldn't expect to understand a different language (even if it's similar like english and spanish).

The fact that they are Man Utd fans shows that they aren't the most educated people in the world.
I'm English and I still had to concentrate to make heads or tails of it. They must not look at the screen while typing and then just hit 'reply' without seeing what they have actually written

That is pretty bad. Take consolation in the fact that it's on a Battlefield 2 forum...which means that I am killing these guys one by one during my free time.

looks like normal gamer speak... it's like another language. it's fluid (no punctuation at all), spelling doesn't matter, grammar is right-out ignored, and some words h4ve numb3rs 4 l3tt3rs. It's like a cross between 1337-speak and the mindless gibberish and stat-talk the gamers started with, because most of them think they're "teh 1337 h4><0r$" anyway.
Of course, we should also understand that a large percentage of these types of talkers are 14 year olds whose worldly knowledge isn't all that developed to begin with, and this type of fast-paced lazy-typing makes their already poorly-developed grammar and spelling skills worse through the repetitive rape of the language in such conditions. I'm sure some of you have been around long enough to have had a few "Dungeons & Dragons" buddies who'd prattle on forever about stats and mystical shit you couldn't make sense of, let alone care about... well, this is that for video games and this time period. Oh, and i'm not a hater, I love video games. I just don't spend 22.5 hours a day gaming like some people do. |

Never had problems understanding Aussies, but working and trying to understand a
coworker from Dagnam England was quite a test. He was a hoot though - and taught me lots of bad words!
