Where's the "every now and then" option? I go in there from time to time, but it's not because I have to, and it's not like I hate it or anything. I'd just rather post on TFP or play Battlefield 2 than carry on a live conversation.

Sure thing! I often don't post in the forums because better points have already been made, or I don't have the relevant experience to contribute. So I find the tfp Chat a great way to take part and get to know the community. You're all a real swell bunch!

I tried it, but I'm just an old dog not into new tricks. My boys, little sister-in-law and my nieces on the other hand... IMs, PMs, chat windows, telephone, TV, mp3 player... I don't know how they do it.

I'd like to spend more time in chat, but there's a rather large purple ape always in there and that kinda scares me.

I'd like to, but haven't figured it out yet.
I'm a chat newbie. But I got some input in the appropriate forum, so hopefully that'll change soon.

I haven't a clue how to go about doing it. Perhaps I would if I knew how. This IRC or mIRC or whatever it's called stuff is too hi-tech for me.

Sorry, JStrider, I'm just smart enough to click the chat link at the top of the page.
It is nice to see some new faces in there, though. Liven things up a bit so shesus doesn't have to keep playing strip trivia.

I always have chat running in the background, and as I have free time or just want a break, I drop in as I can. It's a fun place to "hang out," everyone should join in!

There is a TFP Chat Guide in Tilted Newbies. It walks you through setting up mIRC and XChat so you even have a choice of client
I always leave chat open and drop in whenever I notice something interesting going on. EDIT: looks like the pics for the mIRC tutorial are no longer working. The XChat tutorial I added is still working however. I'm always open for suggestions to make it more clear

I use the java pop up - not all the tme, but if I'm home on my own and fancy communicating with real people I stop by - but like Shanni, it can be hard to keep up with all the windows I have open - I'm a chat whore.

I will (though don't hold me to a date) chat in there some time. I used to a few years ago, and then sort of fell off the whole IRC thing, but now that classes are starting back up, I need better ways to distract myself, so I'll probably try reinstalling xChat and giving it a go in the near future.

I voted "No, too shy", but the real answer is closer to "No, not my thing". I've never used IRC, IM, or any other instant-writing communication style. I prefer to read and respond at my own pace; I like the message-board style of communications.

The difference for me, between TFP chat and other chats, is that I know most of the people in chat already. It's like popping into the pub for a quick one before heading home.

I like chat
if my computer's on, i'm likely in chat. often just idling while doing other stuff, but sometimes i'll make an ass of myself ... ..er, sometimes i'll talk. yeah it is a good way to get to know people - it feels a bit closer to irl than the board. more like 'talking' and less like posting. since my 'social life' is currently pretty much all here, it helps me feel like less of a loser, i think we need more people in there! don't be shy, people, it's fun!

i've tried but i just dont seem to get on. i love chat rooms and i think its just as sin said "more like talking and less posting". not that the posting isnt cool and stuff but chat does make it seem "a little more closer".
and sin...you aint no loser, very insightful and you seem to know what you talking about...i'd love to chat to you. |
