Here's an idea. Put your computer in the highest trafficked area of your house. Little Billy isn't going to be flogging the bishop in view of the whole congregation.

Don't make sex a mystery in your household, and don't make it a spectacle either. Make damn sure your kids know your idea of "normal" before the real world bonks them on the head, so they'll have a platform to stand on, and things should be ok. You know... actually raise your kids... They'll let anybody be a parent these days, sheesh.

I can confirm, that I, as a teenager (without the "inraweb pr0n addiciton) I also often wondered what almost every woman looked like naked; and, wanted to have sex with her. Hell, I still do now, I'm just more selective.

That's pretty much what teenage boys DO. Last time I checked, most of them would hump a couch that had sexy looking pillows...

Pretty much I can't accept that porn viewing made the kid into a radny little bugger. His hormones did that.

Teaching boys who will become men to deal with the load of changes is a job for parents, not a computer, cable tv, his pals, or magazines to handle. Let's hope that occasionally there are parents that do so.

APPLAUSE!! My thoughts exactly...and then some.

It all boils down to this..... boys are horny little shits and looking at porn, whether it be in a magazine, internet browser, peep show, is what they want to do... and as long as they want to do it, they are gonna find a way. Girls are the same way but to a lesser degree I guess... I dunno, can't speak for 'em for I am a red blooded american male. But, I would guess their hormones are raging just about as bad, whether girls wish to admit it or not. As for spending as much time as he does on ther computer looking at porn.... I'd say he's going overboard a bit, but it ought to pass. If anyone is really to blame though, it is the parents..not him. Kids are supposed to screw up and make mistakes. Who's running that household anyway...the kid or the parents? Parents want to use TV's and computers to raise their kids, or babysit their kids, then bitch when their kids are getting off looking at porn. What about the "off button"? You'll never be able to control what kids do 24 hours of every day, but by god when their at home, you sure do have a say.

Blah.

Our culture is stupid. Flat out.

The kid is your typical horny teenage boy. Wow, he's looking at porn. Big f'n deal, ya know?

I had porn when I was 15. Believe it or not, most people that age have access to it even without the internet.

Plus when you get rid of all the BS that we've been brainwashed with over the years, it's not a big deal. It's just two naked people having sex, which, the last time I checked, is a natural part of life.

It makes no sense to shield people from it. Period. It doesn't make you a rapist, a sexual deviant, or anything else. I'm not saying anyone should just give a 10 year old boy porn, but if he happens to see one, what's the big deal? THAT is the question that people can't seem to answer.

Ask someone if they care if their kid sees boobs in a movie. Most will, without thought, answer "yes". When you ask them why... they reply, again without thought, "It's not something they should see at that age." Ask why again. No insightful answer other than "just because." It won't make their head explode, it won't turn them into a thief, they won't have nightmares, etc. It's fine.

Males like sex. Females like sex. Might as well get used to it, it continues to progress our race.

As for the kid, it sounds like his problem is addiction. kinda like how I can't stop browsing the web even after ther'e nothing to look at, or play games for weeks on end and lose all track of time. Then again, I have people to help drag me out of my own little world when I sink into it. It appears all this kid has is a computer and wayyyyyyyyy to much free time on his hands to further his addictive personality.

JumpinJesus, an excellent post. You put words to the simmering rage I often feel towards the majority of Americans...

That aside, I agree with those who say it comes down to the parents. Yep. 7 hours a day on the computer? I don't care if you're looking at porn or doing astrophysics on the computer... no kid of mine will spend that long on a computer, EVER. Or on a TV. Or anything else involving mass media.

This is exactly why I think a kid's computer should be kept in the living room where everyone can see it (since doing homework and gaming don't really require privacy, when it comes down to it), and also why I think that kids should never have access to the internet or TV within their own bedrooms. At least not until a certain age, like 18.

And if porn comes up, whether accidentally on the computer or elsewhere, it should be addressed immediately by the parents in a mature way that illustrates both the positives and negatives of porn. To me, that would just suck the power right out of the porn image being "forbidden" or whatever. I would be quite frank with my kids about porn, but I still wouldn't allow it before the age of 18.

Yeah, I know the kid would probably just go to his stupid friend's house (the one whose parents are like the one in this article) to watch it there, but ideally I'd hope to know what kind of parents my kid's friends have... and at least they'd know the rules inside my own house.

godammit, the lack of control parents have over their kids really pisses me off...

Maybe that's it.

In the future we'll have the "birds, bees, porn" talk with our kids.

Sorta, like I'm told, Europeans do with alcohol.

So we start the kid on a small amount of softcore early - in a controlled family setting (lounge room). Later on we give them access hardcore stuff progressively.

By the time they are 18 and/or leave home - they should be able to view any attachment sent to them (in a business environment say) in a mature and responsible way.

The internet wasn't available much when I was a teenager. It wasn't available at all when I was 12 and 13. YET I found my grandpa's stash of magazines. I checked them out at every opportunity I got. To be honest I'm glad I did. I wasn't completely freaked out about having sex the first time. I wasn't a nervous tense wreck and anticipated it with relish. I have heard so many stories of women who were sooo tense that sex would hurt the first time. I was aware that discomfort was a possibility but I was so excited about it that I barely noticed the discomfort.

I don't see how a teenage kid seeing a little porn is so terrible. NOW as for him being on the computer too much. He's not getting the sunshine and excercise needed for good bone and muscle growth. THAT'S where the parents were most lax. If he'd not had the chance to be on the computer so much he wouldn't have see much porn or sex.

I also take offense at the person who included that the mother who was cooking dinner was a bitch. I'm sorry but dinner's gotta be made. Please don't make blanket statements such as this. Yes, she was stupid to not check up on the kid. She wasn't slacking to be fixing dinner.
