From what I read, the Tour Guide took things *way* too far. Then the teacher followed suit.
I can't see Clarkson *ever* doing something like that... (this should probably be in the Canada Forum...)

What we don't know is if the kid is a "troublemaker" in general. It wouldn't excuse the action by the Tour Guide, but it might explain the action of the school.

I don't think that the school/teacher acted appropriately. he was also put under "house arrest' by the teachers for the remainder of the Ottawa trip and prevented from joining in with th rest of the planned activities, except for a musuem tour where he was 'escorted' by a teacher at all times.
To me this is pathetic, and the teacher, the School, and the Durham board of education all owe him an apology. it just reinforces a complaint that my 15 yo nephew relayed to me yesterday, that he is really upset with the way he (teenagers) are being treated by the public. He was forced out of his TTC seat by a 30 something in a suit with a briefcase (the ttc is the transit system). and felt really intimidated/shamed. I am ranting because I am beside myself that thsi guy was treated so poorly just because of his age. |

I never really had any problems growing up around Toronto. While his actions sound innocent, I suspect there is something more to the story. However, unless he flipped Clarkson off, I can't see how a three-day suspension is justified. I also know that there are some teachers and principals who are just plain nuts and will suspend kids at the drop of a hat.

The kid should sue. If I were his parent, I would. Nothing like being made a pariah and treated as a spectacle because of a comment reflective of insight, wit and wisdom from a 10 year old. Anytime a 10 year old is questioning waste at any level, I know my future is in good hands.
