Working While Hosting the Super Bowl- Advice and Stories
Soon, the Super Bowl will be coming to my hometown and as a server in a high-end steakhouse (a la Mortons/ Ruth’s Chris), I’m looking for any pointers from restaurateurs who have worked during the big event.
Any servers/ bartenders/ cooks in the house? Everyone in town is stocking up on premium liquors and libations. We’ve got a fully bottle of Louis XIII and trying to get at least another bottle. Our wine room is chock full of the good stuff. Jacksonville is a growing, medium-sized city and late night diners and sophisticated types of clientele are rarer than some of our other types of guests. Thanks again for the advice and your stories. |

I've been to two Super Bowls, and I'll offer you some advice from the end of a customer, if you want decent tips. Pay attention to me. I have spent a lot of money on this trip, and I'm here to have a good time, don't screw up my good time by giving me attitude or rushing me out the door. Treat me like a valued regular even though you might never see me again. Do your best to make this experience a pleasurable one for me.
If I ask a question about the area, that 50000 people have asked before me, answer the question, it's the first time I have asked. Have fun with this experience... you'll be coming across people from all over the country, leave them with a good impression, the local chamber of commerce thanks you

If you don't already, pass some of those tips on to the cooks. Talk to your fellow servers about this and all of you pitch in. Those cooks are well aware of the big night, let them know of your plans about kickin down some tip cash. They can help you to have a big $$ night or they could really make your night hell.
