Strange and annoying DVD defect...

This can almost go into Tilted Entertainment except that it doesn't really have anything to do with any particular movie or TV show.

Anyway, I just bought the second season of Kung Fu and discovered, much to my chagrin, that it came with two disc 2 discs at the cost of disc 1.

Now, this is hardly a great tragedy. I can (and will) go back to the store and exchange it for another. No one else on the internet has claimed such a thing so it's probably just a freak accident. However, the store is out of the way for me and I was only able to get there from a favour of a friend who owns a car, so this is an inconvenience for me.

Now, this isn't the first time I've bought a defective item (or DVD, even) and exchanged it. However, it is the strangest defect I'd ever seen. I'd only heard of one stranger one, where someone bought a movie only to get another in the case.
Has anyone else encountered strange DVD defects?

I had a cassette (Happy Together by the Nylons, I believe) that had Side A recorded on Side B and vice versa. It was one of those clear cassette tapes, so the words were printed directly onto the cassette, not applied with a label.

Also, I had a cassette that had a Side B and a Side 2 (intentionally). That threw me off for a while until I figured out what was going on.

Okay, I bought the first season of Twin Peaks -only to discover that there is no first episode. The series starts with episode 2. I thought it was a mistake until I remembered that Fire walk with me was a prequel to the series.

Aaaaactually, it's a little more complicated than that.

While it's true that Fire Walk With Me was a prequel, there actually WAS a first episode. It was a 2-hour movie that introduced the characters and the ground situation. It was shot and shown as a pilot. In that episode, Cooper actually catches the killer and concludes the story.

It was shown in its entirety as a TV Movie in Europe, but in the US it had the last few minutes eliminated so there could be a series. Even so, it doesn't hang real well with the rest of the series--there's stuff that's out of sequence, charcters that aren't fully developed, and who contradict what you find out about them in later episodes, etc.

The reason it's not part of the DVD or VHS box set is that it's owned by a different company than the rest of the series, and is in licensing hell. lurkette and I have a old, nasty, scratchy VHS copy of it that was dubbed from somewhere I don't even remember anymore.

/ Twin Peaks Geek Threadjack. Don't even get me started about Mulholland Drive!

A friend of mine once bought a game (I forget which) and had the same situation as you: two Disc 2s and no Disc 1.

Someone, somewhere, sometime, is going to find "Kung Fu" with two "disk 1" disks.

It is your DVD twin. Seek that person out and rejoice!

Well thank god, that manager needed to be taught a lesson for creating those policies and making the casette and screwing it up. I'd imagine that right after his ass was kicked the casette was mysteriously fixed. What a wonderful world we live in.

I have yet to have any DVD troubles other than renting a few and finding them too scracthed to play and those annoying commericals that you can't skip though. Blockbuster credited me for the scratched disks and I keep the television off during the commericals so that they have no effect.

My older brother bought a Godsmack cd that had two discs in the case, there was only supposed to be one. So he got two copies of the cd for the price of one. this was about 4 years ago.

And my younger brother bought a cd a month ago that didn't have any discs in the case, that's right, he bought a cd case with no cd. Would have been really funny if it was a Godsmack cd, but it wasn't.

And both of these really happened, I was there when they were both opened for the first time.

Well, ain't that the damndest. You learn something new everyday.

All my buying experiences are pretty normal. I once bought a copy of Starcraft that had the game in, but the books and stuff were missing. In its place was the bottom half of a Cosmo magazine. It was a bargain buy, so, I'm sure it was a return, but why someone would steal the extra stuff and return the actual game is beyond me.

They wanted the CD key for Battlenet.

I have several dvds that look like they were exposed to a solvent. The optical surface in some small portions near the edge looks almost as rough as sandpaper. Luckily, the tracks do not reach the edge of the disc, otherwise i'd be snookered. Does everyone know that those discs are read and written from the inside out, unlike records, which are the opposite?
