well There are allot of things in this thread i agree with and many more i don’t. First i used to live in that area and sold some drugs not to far away from that place. i had 2 acquaintances shot and killed on that block... let me say this…. the people in that area have much less than this guy to worry about... sure he was near a school but id wager if they went to that school they would find more drugs than that INSIDE the school. i don’t agree with harsher sentences for dealers near school unless they are selling to kids in that school.... i hate to be the one to say this but drug dealers as a whole have kinda been given a bad rap. Several posters in this thread have talked about dealers creating the crime. I disagree. They are just average people selling something other people want. It just happens to be illegal.. Even if 50% of all drug dealers committed no other crime than sell drugs would it still be "bad" . But that’s also 50% of the dealers just keeping the cash flow flowing. my personal experiences with this were back when it was “cool” i have since evolved but when i was in that crowd i saw many dealers who did nothing but let people come to them and ask for whatever they wanted.... yes people get hooked on drugs yes drugs are verry easily abused and misused but 95% of the people on them made a choice to do it... in this day and age i cant believe there are many Americans inner city people included who don’t know the dangers and risk of drug dealing and addiction yet 1000's daily still choose to start the new habit.. i don’t see much difference in tobacco and crack... both take an x amount of uses to get addicted both are incredibly expensive ( yes crack more so) both can be easily had by minors if they want it , both are verry often sold with 100o feet of schools both are usually smoked therefore polluting other peoples air space. so this guy was dealing in an inner city setting that happened to be near a school yeah he is a criminal yes he was breaking the law hell yeah he is an idiot but life in prison @ $40,000 a year ( roughly) for 60 years? if he’s that much of a scum bag just kill him.
