1. Ever been here in June, July, or August. If so, then you know about the heat. (But hey, it's a dry heat, just like an oven.) 2. Dust storms 3. It takes about an hour and a half to get from one end of the city to the other, and that's when the traffic is good.

1.) Middle-class drinking hole. 2.) During 'Race-week' (horse racing) the town swells by 2/3rds it's size, full of drunken Irish gamblers (no offence FatherTed). 3.) All this drinking and yet no decent clubs?

1. General Motors left taking our entire tax base with them\ 2. The city council let GM leave and didn't replace the tax base. Now we have so much fighting within city council and the mayor's office, it's making us look like a joke. The state took over last year and ran our finances and now the idiots in this city elected a former criminal to the mayor's office. 3. Everyone associates us with Michael Moore The good thing is I don't actually live in Flint. I live just outside of it where there is great economical growth and plenty of nice places to live. Despite the fact Flint is a shithole, the rest of the county seems to be doing OK. The bad thing is that I work for the City of Flint.

1. The perception that Omaha is...well...Omaha 2. Too many narrow minded people that go out of their way to perceptualize Omaha's "cow town" image. 3. The freakin' humidity! And now...3 good things 1. College World Series, baby! 2. World class art and culture base. (who knew, huh?) 3. More restaraunts, per capita, than any other city, in th U.S.

philadelphia
1. it is a car city. too many cars. too many stupid people driving those cars. too many stupid people who talk on the cellphones while driving those cars. this from a cyclist viewpoint, of course. 2. it is too close to jersey. the problem must be in the water there. old city, which is never very interesting, is turned into hell on earth every weekend by an invasion of the jerseypeople. 3. spotty music and art scenes. lots of interesting musicians and artists in the city, most of whom only get to perform/show their work in decent venues once they have made a name for themselves outside of the city. no coherent structure for encouraging local artists in any form to move beyond showing/performing for their friends. good things about philly 1. west philadelphia 2. that there are many interesting musicians/artists in the city 3. that the red sox are in the world series. it makes philadelphia a better place for me.

4. Perpetual freeway construction (I like new freeways, I hate having them tear-up existing ones) 5. It is such a new city, without any culture, that any building older than 50 years is considered antique 6. Snowbirds! I hate wondering whether the bluehair in the lincoln driving 45 in the fastlane with her left blinker on is going to notice that she is at her exit and suddenly plow accross all seven lanes of traffic without warning.

And I'm gonna add: 7. Stolen car capital of the U.S. I'd like to keep my new truck, thank you very much. 8. Zoning planning committees that try to move already long established airport runways in multiple cities so they can build their precious houses... when there's still tons of desert around. 9. And Snowbirds again, since it's that big of a problem. Don't complain that AZ isn't like back home: If that's what you want, GO BACK!

I'll add to Chicago.
1. Cabs are a dime a dozen around 11pm. Try finding one at 3 am when you're 30 blocks from home and nowhere near the el. 2. Trying to walk down Michigan Avenue. 3. Trying to ride the red line during a Cubs game.

1) Humboldt State University students spending their parents money makes rent go up and property values go down. 2) The town's desire to keep only local businesses in the city limits prevents me from getting a Taco Bell (though there is one Subway right next to the porno store). 3) Faux-hippy panhandlers that line the Plaza on sunny days, begging for money or offering hash pipes and hemp clothing for sale.

Toronto:
1.) The early morning rush hour crowd on the subway could not be more apathetic. I've never seen a bigger bunch of sad-sacks. They have their faces buried in the morning paper (free newspaper "Metro" which hardly can be called journalism) and you could be a 78 year-old pregnant woman with a cane and not get a seat. 2.) The opposite extreme: people who are too nice (and it makes them stupid). The other day I was right at the bus-stop when the bus pulls up. I'm ready to flash my pass and get on (usually takes all of 4 seconds for me to flash pass, hop on and be at back of bus standing), when I hear this woman behind me: "AHEM!! Man with a cane!?" I turn to see her presenting me with this old guy who, of course, deserves to get a seat. But I was already on the bus!! I wasn't budding in front or anything. She somehow thought that if I got off the bus and behind the old man (who she didn't even know and was five feet behind me anyway), that it would help somehow. Idiot. 3.) Selfish/lazy people who own cars and drive them when we have a very decent transit system. These people go hand-in-hand with those who complain about the cost of transit even though it's 1/4 of the cost of owning a car (still it's hard to part with $100 Cdn. every month, I know). I guess all of the above are problems I have with PEOPLE. Maybe they should collectively only count as one.
