what's wrong with the afro wig?
I know this isn't a big news story or anything, but why should this school president apologize for this?? I can't see why anyone would find this offensive, given the situation:

He didn't have to apologize, he chose to after he realized that some people were offended. I think that was a good response--no one forced or told him to do it, he's just polite.
I think it's reasonable to conclude that people were offended for themselves, not the player. How were they to know that some old, white men wearing afro wigs weren't ridiculing them? It doesn't look like anyone got crazy on it, just that some rumored were floating that some didn't catch the real intent. I think he did the right thing, and so does the person who apologized. Ironically, some people posted that others shouldn't be offended for others, but it appears as though those same people were getting offended for the UCF president!

I also don't consider myself offended by the president. If I were, I'd probably be looking for an apology from him for apologizing. I don't want him to apologize to me. I just think people need to get a grip. They should try understanding what's going on before making their voice heard. |

I can only imagine how many people were offended by my Jesus Christ Halloween costume, and my middle of the street "walking on water" drunken antics. Good thing I'm not any sort of public figure, and a simple "Fuck you" works still.
Also, what about my white friend who has a black father, and he has blonde hair but super curly naturally afro hair. I imagine him growing out his natural hair offends people. People are retarded, if you can't smile about someone sporting an afro can you laugh at a guy getting hit in the crotch with a football? My friend did grow his hair out one halloween and died it multicolors like a clown, everyone thought it was a wig, but nope. Good times. Last edited by kurty[B]; 04-02-2004 at 04:33 PM.. |

Hey! I'm in Orlando!
Hey! That's one of my local news stations! Also, that's where I went to college (for a while there)!! Heh, home-town college prez makes good. Nice! Bit of a pussy to back down on that. He should have issued a statement for people to chill out. He took the picture WITH the guy. Jesus. |

Speaking as a white man with a legitimate fro, much larger than this Bob Ross's, I find this disturbing.
It is kind of annoying when people ask me if my heir is real, I'm always tempted to say: 'No I'm just walking around with a wig dude, you dick!' |

I see no problem in his actions either. He was just having alittle fun. But the only reason i see him apologizing is, because he's the president of the school. And at all times, he needs to have a professional demeanor, on and off school grounds. In the public eye or the school board, he probably didnt want to lose face, and quickly apologized for his actions. Kinda makes sense. At least, he has a sense of humor.

What....The....Fuck?
A few relevant quotes from PCU: "These, Tom, are the Causeheads. They find a world-threatening issue and stick with it for about a week. " "Now it's true the majority of people on campus these days are so cravenly PC they wouldn't know a good time if it was sitting on their face but there's one thing that will always unite us and them. They're young! They may not realize it yet they have the same raging hormones the same self-destructive desire to get boldly trashed and wildly out of control look out that window! That's not a protest! That is a cry for help! They're begging us! PLEASE have a party! Feed us drinks! GET US LAID! AAHHHHHH! " Personally, I don't think he should have apologized. However, the president of a university holds a position that does not allow him the luxury of telling people to go fuck themselves. Politically, it was a good move on his part to apologize.

It's not like he said, "I'm so sorry I put that wig on. If I could do it all over again, it'd be different. Oh GOD! Please, please forgive me. I know now that afro wigs are WRONG, Oh so Terribly WRONG! Boooo ho hoooo...." His apology had a nice, measured tone that didn't take away at all from the fun and silliness of the event. I say he handled it well. |

The president offended someone or some people because he put on a wig to show support of the basketball team...(keep in mind, I said wig, not afro wig because you don't have to be afro in order to have hair similar to the wig, he was supporting the team much like many of the fans, and it was during or right before the NCAA tourny)....if your still offended, then go fuck yourself, I wouldn't apologize....in 5 - 10 yrs no one will be listening to the "i'm offended" ppl anymore...i'm sick of 'em. And when I'm offended by anyone I just keep it too myself, because the only person that makes me upset is me.....hmmm...maybe if your offended you should biatch at yourself???
