Well for the first time in my life..
Well for the first time in my life I got to see counterfeit money.
I got paid the other day from my boss in cash. He gave me 90 bucks 4 20 dollar bills and 2 5 dollar bills. I didnt even look at it I was just told it was 90 so I glanced at it to count and make sure it was right like I always do. I went to the bank to deposit the money into my account and to change over some US 20s that my mom asked me to cash for her. The whole time I m holding this handful of money the one 20 dollar canadian bill is sticking out oddly against the rest. So when I got up to the teller I told the girl this looks odd, I got it in my pay the other day from my boss but it doesnt look right. She looked at it and thought the same thing I did that it had just litterally been through the washing machine, old faded and picked up off the ground somewhere. We were both puzzled and so she asked the teller beside her, she didnt know and then finally another woman came over and looked. We were all stunned that it was fake. I was kinda ticked off though cause they wouldnt give it back to me I wanted to keep it and frame it. I called my boss and told him about it and hes going to replace the 20 cause I m out 20 bucks and I got the note that the teller gave me with her name on it. Apparently my boss got it from his bank.

Thats cool. When I worked at a movie theatre, I got a fake 100 dollar bill at the concession stand. What made me look closely was the fact that he chose to pay with that bill (when he had tens and twenties available) when his shit only cost $3.75. We called the Feds, and they took the money. The guy had left right after he paid for his stuff, he didn't even go into his movie. I think he knew it was a fake

StormBerlin: if he paid like that, chances are that he was directly connected to the counterfeit money. That's how they try to get it exchanged, for as much real change as possible. That's how they get their value out of the counterfeit

A friend of mine once got a counterfeit $10 as change at a bar. She noticed it didn't have the texture of a real bill, and the rest of us at the bar agreed it was probably fake, so she just used it to buy her next drink and had no problems.

We don't accept $100s or $50s just in case one of those bills comes to us in the store.
Earlier this week, I got a $10 bill that seemed to be about 2 millimeters bigger than the other 10s and had a rougher texture. Other than that, the print was identical. |

Sorry for not catching on, rather braindead then and now
anyway, if it's anything like here, then a bank could get a fine of up to 25000 euro if they don't hand over the counterfeit money to the police... So I can understand they didn't want to let you leave with it.

as far as american bills go, there are 3 main ways of telling when one is a fake.
1. color shifting ink in the lower right corner. if it doesn't shift, it's not real. 2. watermark on the right of the portrait, visible when held up to light. the portrait in the watermark should match the one on the bill. 3. there's a security strip that repeats the nominal value of the bill. the placement is different for each bill (except $1s), and when put in UV light, they glow. There are other ways to tell when a bill is fake including the texture of the paper and microtext printed all over the note, but those are the three main ways of separating the real ones from the fake.
