considering switching from DishNetwork to DirectTV?

Well then consider this -

For the basic package, including local programming...

You will pay $10/month less for your frist six months with DirectTV
You will pay about $16 total for new hardware - shipped and installed
You will get to watch Comedy Central, et al.

In other words, I get more stuff that I want and I get to keep $44 in my pocket. I don't know how things work out for the more elaborate packages, but if you have a basic subscription, make the change!

Oh, and if anyone from DishNetwork is reading this, feel free to contact me abount my consultation services. I will happily explain (using small words) why you are losing customers and show you (for a fee) the difference between your ass and a hole in the ground.

Ya ya ya! I was living at the beach for about a year (recently moved back into civilization) and all they had was dishnetwork! I was PISSED! I have a DirecTV sattelite here at home, and really wanted to get it down there, but for a professional install it was like $200. Altho if I wanted the DishNetwork service, it comes with install and all that shit. How about not. DirecTV > DishNetwork. Stupid rednecks.

Yup - I figured a discussion of what it means to switch (as opposed to a discussion about the suckage of DN) warrented a new thread.

As for the aforementioned installation charge - I don't know if it is a sale or what, but right now installation is free.

That would be Dishnetwork. Its been all over the news lately. The company that owns those channels, Viacom, has been having a dispute with Dishnet for quite some time now. See here.

It's funny, I was alway under the impression that Dishnet offered less than DTV, but did so at a cheaper price... kind of like the poor man's satellite TV provider. Is this not true anymore? Is DTV really less expensive?

Now consider this.

Sign up as a new customer to Dish.

Pay $50 up front, get $50 credit on first bill. By my calculations, thats $16 less than $16, shipped and installed. Want a DVR, sure have one. Want a high definition reciever? Sure, have one of those, too. Now, onto programming. On any satellite system, you will be under contract for at least a year. DirecTV programming starts out at $39.99 with locals. I'll give you the $10 off per month for the first 6, so we'll call it $29.99. Keep in mind that you are under a year contract, so thats $419.88 for your first year of programming. On Dish Network, basic programming starts out at $29.99. That's $359.88 for the first year. Take advantage of their annual payment option, and pay $329.89. Granted its only a 60 channel package, but it is cheaper. Take the Top 120 for your next year, and you'll still save $39.99 a year over DirecTV.

I do doubt that anyone from Dish is reading this, but they could probably tell you all about how they are not losing customers, but rather how they are gaining them at an exponential rate, and faster than all others (DirecTV, cable...) combined. Dish Network has more Latino customers than DirecTV has all international customers combined. As I stated in my defensive post on the other thread regarding this matter, I will reiterate:

I had dishnetwork for 5 years and loved it. I made the mistake of switching to comcast cable when I got their broadband - when it finally became available. Got a tremendous deal by giving them my old crappy dish. After the year is up I am going back to dishnetwork and take advantage of being a new customer with all the goodies for 3 tv's.

Dishnetwork always struck me as a very good company. They kept rates down and customer service was very good. I freekin' HATE comcast. Their equip. is so bad and the stupid TV Guide channel menu, etc. etc.

From all the comments above, and the other thread, I fail to be convinced that Direct TV is somehow better than dishnetwork. brandon11983 makes a good case. That, combined with my past experience of how good a job Charlie Egan had done with DN will have me re-sold.

I've only had DirecTv, but I always loved it.

I was the only kid with South Park the first year it came out, Wednesday nights I would have 15-20 people in my living room.

I totally appreciate this debate since I'm thinking of droping Adelphia cable and switching to one of the two service providers in this thread.

Problems with Adelphia that make me want to switch:

- Random screen blackout for about 1 - 2 seconds following about 20 seconds later by another 1 - 2 second blackout. This happens at lesat 3 to 4 times and hour and it's very annoying.

- When watching CBS (locally on Adelphia it's channel 12) it will switch the feed to QVC (locally channel 13) and there is nothing you can do to force it to go back to CBS. It eventually resets itself but this frequently happens at least once and hour. March MADNESS is right since it happened during today's basketball games.

- Powerlink (the high speed internet access) blocks TCP port 135 so MS-Outlook is useless. They also block IPSec so the ability to use VPN capability is also ZERO-ZILCH-NADA.

Essentially Adelpahia sucks.

My first attempt to contact DirecTv resulted in a frustrating attempt to get to a bottom line price for Total Choice Plus with locals & High Def service. I ended up just telling the CS Rep that I think that as bad as Adelphia sucks at least with them I know what I get.

I will try Dishnetwork to see if they are any better....*fingers crossed*

DirecTV is more popular around here, except for the international channels. When I worked at Radio Shed, I had customers go from cable to DirecTV, DISH to DirecTV, but never the other way around. I think DirecTV is the more popular, although I can't comment on channel selection and service since we never got the DISH system hooked up in the store to compare.

In my experience, as a fellow Dish and DirecTV retailer, I have found the channel lineups (Dish's Top 120 and DTV's Total Choice) to be almost identical between the two. I have seen the vast majority of my customers to go from cable to Dish or from DirecTV to Dish. I see customers go from Dish to DirecTV because they have very old systems on Dish, with maybe only one receiver, and would like additional receivers, for example. We sell Dish to DirecTV probably 10 to 1, because we have found the customer service on Dish Network to be superior to that of DirecTV.
