I had to go slow to get everyone used to it; I wore one contact and one lense
Or you could just wear lightly tinted, cosmetic sunglasses. IIRC, everyone will probably just tell you that you look much better now that they can see your eyes. No one's likely to tell you that you look worse, if that's your fear!

i did that during 5th grade something like...people will notice and you'll probably hear "what happened to your glasses?" and such for about a week, and then everyone gets used to it pretty quick. then during my sophmore year i changed back to glasses and got pretty much the same thing.
the thing is, its not really a big change for other people. its just your thing that you do. it just like get a very different hair cut or dying your hair. its different for everyone for the first couple day, and then they get used to it. |

Contacts are a million times better than glasses for so many reasons... I wish I could wear contacts again =T
but yah, like said, everyone gets used to the change pretty quick... only your friends and close associates will really say anything, and everyone was always positive to me.. though now that I wear glasses again, a few people say they like the glasses more =P go figure. |

I wore glasses from age 5 until I was 21. I finally decided to get contacts. Had to pay for them too, no insurance... Anyway, it took some getting used to. It was weird to be able to see all around, can't do that with glasses. Everyone said I looked better, so that was cool. I just recently got a new pair of glasses to wear, and everyone loves them. I think it was just a case of me having horrible glasses all of those years.
My eyes get really dry with the contacts, some people are like this and some arent. Smokey bars really kill me. I'm glad I've got the contacts, but at the end of the day it's nice to take them out and put my glasses on.

You'll probably be surprised at how many people won't even notice! Unless, of course, you had giant, thick, coke-bottle glasses.
Every few years, I try to go back to contacts...I just hate them! Maybe I'm just lazy, but even with the disposables, they're never comfortable, and I can't wait to take them out. Stuck with glasses, I suppose. |

I'm a big fan of my contacts. I made the switch mid school year too, about 5 years ago, and no one really noticed. Its no biggie really. I can't stand wearing my glasses anymore, even though it's easier to just crawl out of bed and put them on in the morning, but I hate looking sideways and not being able to see because the glasses lens isn't there. Not a problem with contacts. Also don't get in the way when you're roughhousing and such.

Don't worry about what people will think. Just think about what it means to you to wear them. Personally, I wear my contacts only for sports. I really don't mind wearing glasses and it just makes life easier for me (my contacts aren't perfect due to some mild astigmatism so the glasses work better to read computer screens with).
As for what people thought when I changed them...most people just said..hey you got contacts! Then nothing else.

I switched from contacts to wearing my glasses almost exclusively in the past few weeks. No one really noticed or said anything about it. I prefer it that way. Contacts are a pain in the ass.

i had contacts when i was a kid - about 20 or so - and sneezed once...
had to go to the emergency room to have a lense removed from the back of my eye... they took a little suction cup and popped my eye out, got the lense and popped it back in - HURT LIKE HELL!!! never wore them again!!! |

I can't wear contacts and I've finally gotten old enough that I am no longer vain enough to worry about what I look like with glasses - I wish I could afford to go do the laser thing though - everyone I know that's done it now has 20/20 or better.

Contacts all the way, never fog up, can wear cool sunglasses, never slip down my face when working out, geat peripheral vision. I wear them about 18 hours a day, which is too much, but have never had an eye infection and wear disposables. it's not about look or vanity, it's just that contacts are so much more convenient. When I go scuba diving once a year, or skiing, I can wear a mask or goggles and not fog up. the one small problem, the defrost vent in any car will dry them out if I don't pay attention. can't have the car vents angled directly at me, unless my sunglasses are on.

Exact same thing here. That and the fact that Its easier to watch tv at night in my glasses then take them off when I want to go to sleep rather than get up, take out the contacts, clean them, etc.

Go straight to lasik if you can I am only 19, and because of an eye condition I have to wait a few more years with contacts to let my eyes develop or smth. Contacts are super, but I woud image corrected vision would be even better!
Also, if you try hard contacts and dont like them, try soft. It was night and day for me. I couldnt stand hard ones, but soft works great!

i love my contacts...from like 8am to 8 pm..then i relax with glasses, and as far as people noticing, i'm glad they did. some people actually look better w/o glasses *me being one of them*.
then when i got really bold, i did one blue eye one brown eye...told people, it was a genetic defect and they bought the whole story...society at it's best folks.

Wow, I'm surprised so many people here are one or the other. I constantly switch. I've got my contacts, but often times I just feel like wearing my glasses. It depends on my mood that day... sometimes depends on what I'm wearing. I wear both so often that it doesn't even get mentioned.

I've worn glasses for 15 years or so and have never had any interest in getting contacts. I am interested in laser eye surgery. I've heard the good and the bad, I just need to research it more.

I wear hard contacts which took some getting used to. But they are better for your eyes. I don't even own a pair of glasses actually.
The only problem for me is dust and or grit, especially in the spring when the roads are full of it from the winter. The grit gets in your eye and you start to cry. That and falling asleep with the contacts in. I hate that. |
