Its harder to read. Its annoying to read. Being a hunt and peck typer shouldn't matter. Learn to use both hands...one to peck and one to hold the shift key down once per sentence.

I hate all caps, I find it annoying.
I'd much prefer all lower case.

Also - when I'm King, I will make it a capital crime to sell a keyboard with a Caps Lock key on it - I hate those damn things - I'm always hitting it by mistake, and look up to see a paragraph of all caps.

Yes, it's a usability issue.
"Text typed in all caps is also difficult to read, leading to impairment of a site's usability. This is because the eye needs the movement associated with each letter in order to recognize the word. With capitals being the same size (no ascenders or descenders), the eye must slow down to gather information. " http://www.dotparagon.com/resources/...sability6.html

most people don't like being yelled/shouted at.
that's what's wrong with all caps.

I'm with everyone else on the caps; it makes the post hard to read, and as redlemon said, same with coloured text. Giant blocks of unparagraphed text are even worse, especially when they come sans punctuation.
I tend to skip posts I can't easily read.

I don't care about the yelling context - bobby, you've been around long enough where I know you're not yelling at me - but I will say it IS harder to read all caps than regular letters.
I'd rather read all caps than all red though .... *ahem* Ashton *ahem* Quote:

Caps
Quote:
However, there is a difference between that and typing in all caps on a forum or in a chat room. Those uniform handwriting styles are to enhance legibility when clarity is very important. People naturally have different handwriting styles, some neater than others. But by forcing everyone to "draw" their letters rather than write them, it becomes very clear what they are trying to get across. On a computer, the typefaces don't have that problem or illegibility. Netiquette, the commonly accepted "rules" for communication over the internet, holds that all caps are considered screaming or yelling. Judicious use of caps helps to get your point across. You could capitalize a SINGLE word, to put a particular emphasis on it. If the entire piece is capitalized, I lose that ability to accentuate words or ideas. To put an entire sentence in it drives home the fact that it's an important point that I want you to take away. NOW STOP TYPING IN ALL CAPS! -Mikey Last edited by MikeyChalupa; 10-31-2003 at 10:19 AM.. |

All caps is much harder to read than the correct mixture of lower and upper, or just lower. This is one of the most basic pieces of knowledge for anyone creating marketing materials, layouts, etc. If you ever see a sign for a business, or on a truck, or on a flyer, etc. that uses all caps you can assume it is done by a rank amateur and that it will be significantly less than effective marketing. BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO READ!! <stop shouting>
