Patients Responsibilities.
Is it up to the patient to check with the doctor to see if everything is alright or should the doctor called them?
If it is the Doctor responsibility then what is a reasonable amount of time to wait to hear anything? I had to go to the Doctor recently, they pissed me off. I had to called them 3 times to get my damn results. I have a urine infection, and if I hadn't called them god only knows when they would got back to me. Stil though I had to call three time. First time was about 9:30 am, left a voice mail, then I called 4:30 pm, the nurse there said she didn't get my voice mail, got me a little pissed off, said she will call in the morning. She didn't I waited till 11:00 am and called again, they wanted to put me on voice mail again, I told them no I need to speak to someone live. Finally got through, as I thought I had a infection. So I asked what kind of pills should I be on, the fucking doctor hasn't even looked at it. This really pissed me off, I have a kidney transplant and you don't want to fuck around with infection. So the nurse I think the nurse caught on I was a little pissed off so she had the doctor look at it right away and she will get back to me. I think if I hadn't called them again I still would be waiting. I would of been really pissed off if I had to go to the emergecny room and get a damn IV put in me. I had to do that twice, had to wait a fucken hour each time, it was a slow drip medicine. Anyways just needed to let off steam. |

it's your responsibility to keep on top of them. period.
remember if you aren't bleeding or in immediate jeopardy of dying... then you aren't a priority in ER.

They should get back to you. You as a patient have the right to prompt information about your conditions and treatment. You have to right to be informed as to the results of any and all test verbally and in writing.
Unfortunately in today's hospitals they are often understaffed. Hubby was in Neuro ER and I still had to check up with the nurses constantly. Some wouldn't do all the checks they were supposed to do when they came on. One time there was an X-ray that had been scheduled for the next morning. When I checked to see what the results were the nurses had failed to even call the technicians or read the papers to see what the instructions were. Hubby went without an X-ray to check on the condition of his lungs which had Staphlococcus and Pneumonia infections. One lung had been almost completely clogged. He was currently sedated and on a forced air machine and they FAILED the CHECK the PAPERS. I was pissed but we as patients need to take the responsibility into our hands to make sure we get the care that we NEED or that our family NEEDS. Doctors and nurses are only human and cannot know our needs as well as we ourselves do. You can and should register a complaint with the hospital as since you have had a kidney transplant any infection in that region can be extremely dangerous.
