Tilted Reputations
Hello all. Today I thought of something pretty interesting.
When you read a post, do you look at the snappy titles, or do you look at who posted? Are you more likely to read or reply if it has been posted by someone with a reputation on the forums? People like... ....Hal? ....rogue? ...sixate? ...Jadz? -etc- Are you more likely to post a reply if they posted the thread in the first place? I know for a fact that I check out who posted it before I read it or reply to it. Titles help alot, but if I know someone who posted it better, I'm way more likely to read and reply. I don't have time to read everyones, so I try to read the topics from people I look up to, or have a reputation on the boards. So, who are you more likely to read and reply to? Do Reputations really make that much of a difference to you?

there are some people who's posts are always fun and interesting.... Marcopolo comes to mind...there are some favorites, but I try to read them all if possible, whent here are lots of them I try to read them via subject, but of course people put...Did you notice... or Hey! look here! which does nothing for me.

I tend to respond if the topic is interesting to me, regardless of who posted the thread in the first place. However, there are a few people whose threads I'll check if I see their name on it (seretogis comes to mind because he tends to be very thought-provoking, since we have such different views on things). Replying, however, depends on if I have anything useful or original to add to the thread.

Generally, I look at the subject. If I think the subject intrigues me, I'll then look at who is posting it. For me, the person who posts it has no real bearing on if I'll read it or not. Now that depends on which forum it's in. Generally, if I see a certain person posting a thread in that certain forum then I might not read it because of a personal objection to what they've said in the past. But generally that doesn't happen.

Depends on the forum.
If it's General Discussion, Humor or Nonsense, then it just doesn't matter. On any other forum, I generally tend to glance at most of the replies. In general, a posters status doesn't usually carry that much weight. Just because they may be a noob, doesn't automatically mean their opinion doesn't count.

I guess I respond to threads that look like they actually have a purpose other than racking up a post count..... I really don't like the cheesy guess what? posts or ask me, posts....

I read the title, not the thread starter. But when in a thread, a lot of times i tend to read just the posters with avatars...The avatar sets the post apart from the rest somewhat.
Nothing againts newbies, but the avatar just catches my eye. |

Topics, primarily; personalities, secondarily. If it's an interesting topic but posted by somebody who I know has a dogmatic position on that topic, I'll give it a pass. It's only a discussion if all parties are willing to consider the other side.

I usually look at new posts first, then go by topic. If something interest me, it doesn't matter who started the thread as much as what is said.

If Hal starts or replies to a topic then I'll read it. Usually because it may affect the way things go around here or shed light on something.

On most of the forums, I never even check who posted something, I just read based on the subject...
Now, on the TB, it was entirely different, if it was posted by LD or cchris, then I was definately interested, otherwise, I would just go by the subject again...

I look at the thread topic.
Who posted it is very secondary. However, there are a few that I would look over based on my knowledge of the poster, as there are a few that I would skip for the same reason. I respond if I have an opinion on the topic. Hopefully, I can add something to the discussion. |

Even though I'm too new to know (or care) who posted what, I'll always look at the subject first. Doesn't matter who posted the thread, if the subject doesn't interest me, it's not meant for me and not worth my time.

I usually go by titles as well. Not so much on here because I am pretty new and don't know everyone.
On some of the other boards I post on I go by who I know ect. The title does draw me in the most though. If there is some huge post by someone I don't "know" I won't read it most of the time. I 'll wait for someone to comment then go back and re read it if it is any good. |

i try to ignore threads started in the acadamy made by known flame warriors...but other than that, i will use avatars to find my favorite posters in long threads to see what the arguements are.
some authors/artists/exhibitionists always get my attention when the post...but i usually try to get to what the newcomers post. |

I go by the topics. Sure there are a few people on here who I'll read their posts, but if i'm not interested at all in it, I probly won't take the time to click it. (So what if I like the person, If I have no clue what that gun is, it won't help to read the post )
