College Pains

Going to a crowded school like CSUS is such a pain in the ass! I tried to register for five classes for this fall (and now there's another I want to take) and all but two of them were full!!

Today is the first day of school and now it's a mad scramble to add the classes I want before the other students can take up those coveted seats. I went to my Japanese class and almost ran to a computer lab to take up a slot vacated by a drop... so now I've got three classes.... only two more to try to add today... wish me luck!!

*runs off to the next crowded classroom*

This is kinda off the subject but it still has to do with college.
Friday night my friends and I were hanging out playing madden 2004 in my dorm. My roomate had already gone home for the weekend. My friend todd wanted to play on ian's computer (Ian is my Roomate). He tries to get on but he didn't have the password. The hint for it was some definition from a flight book. So todd starts looking for one to find the anwser, he looks in ian's closet. He finds a big fat folder full of child porn. This stuff was awful, little girls 12 and under, and there was alot of it. So I start freaking out because I've been bunking with a pedophile for the last ten days. After I calmed down, we went looking for a cop to tell. It took about twenty minutes to find the guy. So after making a statement. The cops got a search warrent and found alot more on his computer. When Ian came back yesterday. the cops were waiting for him. After they arrested him, the cop told me that here in Arizona, it's 10 years per picture. If he gets that, he's going away for about 1000 years.
What a way to start off college eh?

That's some heavy-duty shit Walson. Hopefully he wasn't a nice guy so you don't have to feel conflicted about ratting him out. That's the kind of thing that people do for the rest of their lives, and it's only a matter of time before some poor kid gets it from him.

The most stressful thing for me in college was running for president of my hall. Biggest hall on campus. It holds about 900 people, and it took tons of time and about $70 to run the campaign. The worst part was, it took time that I should have been spending working on papers and such, and as a result, I had to take an incomplete in a senior level philosophy class. I still have to do that damn paper.

For what it's worth, I lost the election. The wierd part was, losing was the biggest relief of my life. After all the time, energy, money, and sleep that I gave up to that thing, in the end, I didn't even care if I won or lost. I suppose that's what stress will do to ya.

I'm sorry bermuDa. I hope everything works out for you. It's things like this that influenced my decision to go to a smaller school. Unfortunately, I still face many of the same problems registering at my school. I guess its just part of the college life. Hang in there!

In Ontario there is this Double cohort hting going on where there is gonna be no more grade 13 (OAC). So now high schoolers will only be going to highschool for 4 years...not 5. I think that is how it has always been in the states though.

anyway....that means lots of students are competing for spots and courses this fall.....44 more percent will attend a post secondary institution this year. That would be difficult.

CSUS = California State University Sacramento

I'm used to it now i just needed to vent... this is the second semester in a row I've gotten into 2/6 classes I wanted initially. Last semester I got lucky and was able to add all 4 classes i didn't get into. I've got 3/6 so far... the art history class isn't looking too good (30 extra students looking to fill 0 extra slots)... i might get into an english class I'll need to graduate, and there's still another class tomorrow I have no idea about... I'll bitch more later :]

Trust me, you'll like a bigger school once you're into the semester. I go to University where my smallest class last semester was 150 students. My largest was 300. Just party a lot.

registering sucks, my friends do it online, that would make it sooo much easier than going and waiting in line for hours only to have to change your schedule in line cause half your classes are closed...

I always try to get in as early as I can so I can get what classes I want. Doesn't always work, but I usually get what I want.

UMD is pretty massive, but their online registration system makes life a lot easier for most of us. It sucks when you're a freshman and sophomore, but life gets a lot better when you're on the top of the proverbial food chain.

And big colleges have far more to offer than smaller colleges, especially if you're uncertain about what you want to do. There are far more opportunities in terms of clubs and whatnot.

Why is it that some colleges are still conducting registration the old way (standing on line all day). Seriously, if its such a big school they should develop some kind of internet based registration.

Even though we have a digital system, when things go wrong you have to wait in line. I remember last semester having to go across campus to get a form filled out by three people, just so I could swap sections.

I'm glad I did though. Got an A in the class, and the prof was nice.

Well, due to a 5 minute overlap in the time slot I wanted, I have to take chem at 5:30-7:30 tuesday night, and 5:30-9:30 thursday night.

My other class those days is 9:55-11:10, and I commute to school, so it's not like I have much to do. My time gets split between Pool and TFP

Jesus, the two universities I attended here in Canada had telephone and then Internet registration. Getting into a full class just meant going to the prof and showing an interest in the course. Are we that much nicer a nation?

Maybe now that grade 13 is eliminated in Ontario you won't be so nice?
Seriously, it just seems to get worse getting the classes you need--though even 10 years ago when I was in school, it was a big pain.
Now it's impossible.

I'm at a small school, so registration is damned easy...

Roll outta bed at around 10:00 on the morning of registration, scratch my nether regions, and open IE.
At this point, I turn up my speaker volume, and change my playlist from "Sleeeeeeep!" to "Pre-shower."
I make a few clickity-clicks here and there, and viola! I'm registered for all the courses I need: remedial underwater basket-weaving, introduction to mathematics, social skills 101.

sucks to be you, big school people.

Yea being a freshmen totally sucks. You get the bottom of the barrel for registering for classes. Don't they have an online registeration? Most big colleges do nowadays.

Sounds like me. I was in a directed fast track program that gave me one elective in 4 semesters. Not much choice but registering consisted of showing up and paying my fees.
