I'm 25 and I never smoked pot. Was never around it until I went to visit a friend in Canada. The first night we were in his friends apartment and they were passing around a bowl and kept passing to me. They always appoligized, said they werent trying to get me to smoke.
I didn't smoke, a little tiny part of me wishes I did. Just to see. But then again, at this point in my life, why bother?

Pot is so much better than alcohol. So much better. Much much much better. No such thing as a hangover, once you are used to it you never feel so stoned that you have that "out of control" feeling associated with drinking.
Sure, it's still unhealthy, but NOTHING like alcohol. You can die in one night from drinking too much. |

brownies are fun to do while swimming. i had an experience where a few of us at a good size brownie each. we really werent thinking about what we were doing at the time because we started eating them before we left. they started kicking in about half way there. but when we got there it was great. they had this lazy river thing, where you'd just sit in an innertube and you'd get pushed around this river. we probably did that for 4 or 5 hours. it was the greatest time. i dont remember much though, i was pretty fucking high. |

Well, some people I know treated themselves to the said herb and while I had a quick 'taste' of a joint I didn't really get into it with them. They got into it though, finding things amusing that otherwise were quite trivial. I felt like the designated driver. It did relax me a bit, but I am yet to really experience it well enough to say whether it is my thing or not. I may try again, or may not, we'll see. For the time being though it's out of the question, as I'm going through a bit of a depression, and depressed people really don't need narcotics...
I appreciate all the replies and your curiosity towards my experience as well.

I personally have just recenty been smoking (weed, not cigarettes) occationally and I don't see a problem with it. But from the sounds of things i'd go with the don't try it because you don't sound all that interested, and at teh end of the day it is still smoking... (no justification there...) Make up ur own mind. Let us know either way =D Dont submit to everyone else just doing it though!

I smoked for about 9 years almost every day. After a while, the sillyness went away and it would just make me feel light-headed and relaxed. I've always preferred it to alcohol and I think it's sad that pot-smokers are treated like shit by the govt. There is no good reason why alcohol should be legal and pot isn't. Once I get a new job I might go back to smoking, but I might just keep the extra $20/wk. |

I say, "Try it." And thanks for voluntarily thinning the herd!
The more apathetic, paranoid, wasted burners there in the world, the easier it is for the rest of us to get ahead.

The stereotype of an apathetic, paranoid, wasted burner just is not universally applicable, so if you'd like to vacate the moral highground that would be just swell.
Alcohol is somehow an acceptable drug. I never understood that. I've never been as out of control on any drug as I am on alcohol. I've never felt as ill on any drug as I do on alcohol. Yet weed, which chills me out, puts a smile on my face and pleasantly skews my perspective just a little bit is evil? Damn, I thought this board was populated with intelligent, open-minded folk. By all means, refuse if you don't want it. Personally, I prefer life with weed to life without. That won't always be the case, and when it changes, I'll stop. |

ahh, many a memory on weed, stupid weak puny stuff.
but, seriously, give it a go, 'tis quite fun. however, what you really want to do is get your hands on some nice bud/skunk/punk, that'll really mess with your head just whatever you do, leave your wallet in the open, and have an empty fridge, because, like the best of us, you'll be right out that door, and off to the chippy to get some munchies while trying not to giggle... |

the first time i smoked i didnt even noticed the high... i was just munching and then went to sleep...
i use to smoke quite often. but it is not at all addictive... i stoped smoking completely for three years, then last month i had a joint... and thats it... as long as you dont hang out with pot heads you wont have a problem. make sure that if and when u smoke it that you get some good stuff... everyone says that they have good stuff but its all shit most of the time. dont know what else to say about it... i really dont care for it cause it makes me stupid for several days... but some people love it. try it out, see how u feel. |

Personally- I dont think you are missing out on much. For a while there, in my teenage years I smoked quite a bit of weed. Sure I thought it was cool and had a little fun with it. Then one day I smoked some that was laced with god knows what. My heart was pounding a million beats a minute and I swear I thought I was going to die. I even went into the washroom and prayed to god to save me and I would never do it again. This guy that smoked it with us that night was far worse then me. He was going around the house shaking, and grabbing people's arms saying "help me..help me. I need to get off this". Still to this day I dont know what the hell we smoked that day. I just know that every time after that I tripped out so bad again. Its now been 4 years since I have had any, and I know I am not missing out on shit. You wont be either.

I've never tried it, though there was a lot of it around when I was in high school. I'm 41 now. I don't have anything moral against it and I don't think it's dangerous. I did, however, notice that some of my friends had personality shifts after they started messing with it, and that made me worry a bit. Now I think I'd give it a try, except I'm an engineer and I just don't want to do anything that might possibly screw with my brain. That probably sounds dumb, but it doesn't seem worth it to me.

P.S. to everyone else: We do not need to turn every pot thread into a negative debate. Let those who have something to add do so, and if all you're adding is your negative opinion on the practice itself or the people who partake in it, ask yourself if that's what the thread is about. In this case, you should answer to yourself, "No." and move along. No more pot-bashing, please. Thanks Last edited by analog; 03-21-2004 at 01:38 AM.. |

If you made it this far without trying it, why bother.
It is still illegal (and it shouldn't be) so you have more to lose if you have bad luck. I have smoked it a couple of times when I was younger, and once it really banged my gong, so to speak. I decided that it wasn't worth the trouble for me and now that I have a family, it would be a MUCH bigger deal to mess with. |

Pot doesn't have anything to do with productivity in my experience. When I used to smoke all day everyday....my friends and I were constantly keeping ourselves busy...sure we had those days that we just sat around and watched tv or played video games, but not anymore than we did before we started smoking pot. I would go as far as saying we were overproductive. If we weren't making music, we were playing b-ball or skating. If not that we were out and about keeping ourselves busy with creating or day long walks in the woods or tubing in the rappahanock. I think you are either a productive person or an unproductive person regardless of pot. And sometimes when people realize that they are being unproductive that happen to smoke pot a lot, they just blame it on that instead of admitting that they are just boring to begin with (not directed at anyone). Anyways....I say try it, but in a safe environment since it is illegal. And not just those 1 or 2 times. It took me 2 times to feel the full effects but took some of my friends 5 or 6 times. And remember you control it, it doesn't control you. If you do that you should be alright. Have you hugged your (productive) pothead today? edit: For the record, I hardly smoke pot anymore. it is all about the situation you are in when you do it. good friends preferably, ones that have smoked before, and somewhere where you won't have to deal with anything or go anywhere unexpectedly. i usually like to be as far removed from civilization as possible.
