Driving In LA

i live in los angeles, california. and no matter how many times i'm on the freeway (expressway for some of you), it shocks me that some people can just pull in front of you driving way slower than you, and not have the conscience to let you pass first. i'll be driving at about 85 mph (and yes, i know the limit is 65 mph), and someone doing about 55 mph decides they'll be driving in front of me when i'm about 150 feet away. worse, they are not driving faster than they were when in the previous lane. what compells a person to do this?

one other thing, while the speed limit is posted at 65 mph, it is also stated that slower traffic stays to the right. i find myself having to use the right lanes to pass people on the left lanes, doing about 60 mph. what is up with that? they should have reminder signs on the freeway every 5 miles saying 'if the person to your right just passed you, you should be on their right', if not, these people should *insert harsh, yet proper punishment here*

well, end of rant i guess, let me know what you all think.

I recently heard that driving too slow can be significantly more dangerous than speeding. I absolutely believe it. Especially with some fools who think driving ten miles an hour below the speed limit is a substitute for every other rule of the road.

Agreed. I hate driving on the freeway, coming up on a semi with a car behind it. You're about to pass them both; suddenly, the car decides it doesn't want to be passed and pulls in front of you. This driver is invariably always going 55 mph.

I also hate driving on the freeway when every car in every lane is side by side, going the same speed, and they're all going 60.

That's one of the things I hate most also. I could write a 3 page rant of the stupid people that don't know how to drive in this state. Unfortunately alot of them don't have licenses or insurance so your screwed if you hit them, they will sue you for their stupid-ass mistakes.

I'm in LA too...and you're right.

But what gets me is the people who still slow down to look at a accident. I mean don't we all know that THAT is what causes the bad traffic?

Do you really need to look? Don't people get the point?

my one hyper-peeve.

Cellphones.

I hate people who talk on the cellphone while driving.

What, you want to operate a motor vehicle with one hand off the wheel, dialing a number, and thinking about your conversation? Get the hell off the road.

I use my hands free earpiece all the time, and I really don't feel any less safe.

But in LA you always see the women with the cell phone, newspaper, and makeup doing it all at the same time.

a hands free kit is different. That's not really any less safe than talking to someone else in the car. It's the people with the damn phone clamped to their ear (like the jackass who drove into my sister in law's car) who get me steamed.

Actually I think the most important thing is the placement of the phone. I try really hard to remember to take my cell phone out of my pocket whenever I get in my car. Nothing is more dangerous then fishing around for a cell phone while driving, and trying to hurry to do it because you don't want your voice mail to pick up.

My friend got into an accident that way, and he still hasn't changed.

My hands free kit, is nice too because the button to answer the phone is on the cable, so you don't even need to touch the phone to answer.

i say we get together, fake a wreck on the freeway with a big sign that says 'congratulations, you just lost 45 minutes of your life'

people who rubberneck should be shot. period. if you can't maintain speed and glance, then don't. if you really want to look, get the 'F' off the freeway, and walk back onto the freeway, the gene pool could use some chlorine. what's worse is when people who constantly look, get into another accident that worsens traffic even more. god these people

and what about those idiots who neglect to check their blind spots?

and uber macho guys in their lifted *beyond belief* trucks who think they own the road. they just wait til you get closer, then turn in front of you, knowing you have to stop cuz you have a smaller car. or when they come up to tailgate you with their lights so far off the ground that it smacks you in the face, while you are in the middle, not the fast lane, doing 80 mph already, and there are no cars to the left or the right. what is up with them idiots? speaking of trucks, has any girl here, found it extremely panty wettening when a man in a truck, slams on the gas, screeching his tires to go only 10 feet and brake in the parking lot? cuz i think it's a moronic attempt at a display of his manhood.

speaking of tail gating. i had my engine rebuilt about 3 months ago and was told i should drive around 55 mph to break in the engine. so i set my cruise control and drive on the slow lane, the absolute furthest right lane w/o utilizing the shoulder. and mind you, that i average about 85 mph, so this speed alone is killing me. well, anyways, assholes come up and tailgate me while i'm in the slow lane. what's worse, there are no cars in the lane to the left of me. what is wrong here? am i not in the slow lane? did someone change the orders of the lanes on me while i rebuilt my engine? cuz apparently people are driving slow on the fast lanes but people tailgate me while i drive on the slow lane. or is there an obssession with people being so god damn lazy and so caught up in their own self importance that they feel everyone should yield to them?

[/rant]

When I'm in my pizza car, I hated having to dodge SUVs and custom-toy trucks.

When I'm in my late 1970s full-sized van, I making them fuckers dodge me. I won't mess with people in cars; just assholes who I force to recognize that *I* am bigger than they are.

All of us in Lost Angeles that drive have a gripe about the traffice and we can rant for hours and hours because no matter what we do to try to maintain our sanity and calm on our OVER CROWDED roads...........IT JUST WON'T WORK!!

Bottom line ...........IT"S TOOOOOOO FUCKIN CROWDED!!

Way to many people from foriegn lands that are not really taught our rules of the road.

People from other states that already have their own driving habits and are freaked out at our freeways as it is.

A Department of Motor Vehicles that really does not give a shit and will give a license to anyone that walks into their doors.

A freeway system that is so outdated and will NEVER catch up to what it needs to be....EVER!!

Drivers that can't see, can't drive and think at the same time, can't give someone the common courtesy that they were taught as a child, and most of all....in too much of a hurry to get nowhere fast.

You got the drivers that won't let you pass because they want to be king of the lane, those that just can't figure out how the accelerator works and have to drive...fast.then slow....fast...then slow, those that can't decide what lane to stay in or better yet decide at the last minute they need to get off and slow to a crawl trying to get over 4 lanes and backup the freeway for 2 miles, those who can't figure out that once they use a turn signal to change a lane...it won't go off unless you either make a turn or turn it off youself, those who just don't know how to use a turn signal, and finally those who are just too stupid and should not even have a license for a bicycle.

But when you really think about it how often can you really drive 85.......75......or even 65 mile per hour on our freeways?? Not too often unless you like driving at 3 am or you in the desert.

So if any of you reading this are in Lost Angeles and something above strikes a chord and reminds you of your habits...........GET OFF MY FREEWAY!!
