I'm married to a retired Houston police officer - retired due to Crohn's disease, not age and my father is a Sgt with the constables here.
A couple of things - you never aim to shoot someone in the leg, hand, shoot the knife out of their hand, etc. If you miss (and think about how small a hand is), you or someone else might die. If I can get within 21 yards of you, you can not get your gun out of your holster and shoot me before I can slash you. The traffic code in Texas regarding emergency vehicles is here if anyone wants to read it. Basically, a peace officer on patrol is exempt from Texas traffic law even if that is not the 'letter' of the law. An officer on patrol is always "pursuing an actual or suspected violator of the law" by the nature of his job. They are looking for the bad guys, really. I swear. My husband didn't work traffic and maybe wrote one speeding ticket in 10 years. You'd write one too, if someone was dumb enough to pass you on the freeway at a high rate of speed. It's not like you can't see the police car, right? So anyway, if anyone has any questions about the police, I'll answer them as honestly and fully as I can. I readily admit that there are a number of people who should not ever be handed a badge and gun, but my theories on how to weed them out are apparently not popular (more pay, higher requirements). |

I accept them, when I see them in the streets on patrol. They are here to protect us... but(!) there are still some who abuse their authorities for personal gain. That is the most disgusting thing I know and it's unfortunately hard to do anything about it.

The ones that entered the duty approaching it as public service have my full respect, but there are some that have no business wearing the badge.

I feel that 9/10 are fair, and do the job that they have to as well as they can. That said, I've met several a-hole cops, and have gotten one in trouble. I've honestly thought about being a cop, so I kind of have to like 'em!

I like the cops a lot, they have proven to be my friend.
I used to work for the ambulance and there were many calls on which the accompanied us to the particular address. Without them we could have never gotten our jobs done....people would simply have died. We often feel frustrated when we think of the police "coming down on us" but when you see, as I have, the many time that they are there for the peope who are down and out you realise that they are really good people. I can say without a doubt that there are atleast three occaisions where I owe my life to a cop. If weird but you'd think that people who call for an ambulance would respect the threat that the EMT faces when they come to do their job. |
