EYE H8 KATZ

I was just in the humor forum and read a pretty good joke. At the end of it people were saying how much they hate cats (a cat being buried was in the punchline). And with this serial cat killer in Colorado and people being happy about it. I don't understand why.
Now I had 3 cats at my parents house and 2 cats at my house. And I LOVE(D) THEM!
-They don't require me to go take them out for walks.
-They don't bark anytime someone rings my doorbell or if they see someone outside.
-They don't drool everywhere.
-They don't stink 90% of the time.
-They don't eat their own feces.
-They are very affectionate if you treat them well.
-They obey me (commands such as "come here", "get down", "no", etc.)
-They have very strong personalities
-They don't beg for food while I'm eating it.

so on and so forth.

I just don't understand why so many people hate cats. I know it might sound like I am not a big fan of dogs cause of my list up above, which isn't true. I love dogs...I just couldn't live with one in my townhouse. Maybe if I had a bigger house it would be cool.
Anyways, I am just trying to figure why people hate cats so much. My girlfriend was never a cat person. Until she met my cat when we started dating (who went to kitty heaven last friday). He would sit her lap, and go to sleep on her while she was watching tv and so forth and so on. I wouldn't say she is a cat person but she definetly loves cats now. She is the reason I have 2 cats at my own house now. So lets hear it. Why do you hate cats if you do?

I don't HATE cats.
I dislike them.

I think you may have some trouble getting responses on this post cause I'm sure I'll get flamed by cat lovers around the world. Please don't, cause I'm honestly gonna answer the question.

My girlfriend has a cat at her best friend's house. Notice how it is at her best friend's, not hers. Every few weeks, she brings up the cat. Every few weeks, I put the conversation off to another time. I know that's not good, but I can't compromise on the cat. I really don't get along well with cats. They don't seem to like me. Cat's also show very little "emotion", instead choosing to remain aloof. I'd like a better companion. Also, I wear black suits to work. Most dogs don't shed hair, and dogs can stay off the furniture. Cats get into things - like knocking things over, scratching up matresses, etc.

And this one gets to me more than any other. They are not clean. And before you say, "oh, they keep themselves clean constantly!", please consider:
1. They walk in their litter boxes
2. They have no problem walking on your kitchen counters, on your appliances, jumping places animals do not belong. I cook. I don't want the cat anywhere near the kitchen.
3. They shed awfully. Ever sat down on a piece of furniture where the cat has been? Those of you that have cats will say, "its no too bad." Well, it is if you don't have cats and aren't used to looking like a lint magnet.
4. They love to kill random animals, then bring them back around your house.

I am sure I will upset a cat lover or two. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to, I'm just trying to list why I don't like cats. I recognize that people who have cats love them dearly and I respect their opinions.

"maybe its me but i normally take the posts on the humor board to be 'jokes'..."

Touche.

But that still doesn't explain the bumper sticker "I LOVE CATS. DEAD ONES." or the DENVER CAT KILLER or whatever they are gonna call him/them.

And thanks for answering the question. "cats are fucking annoying" really cleared everything up for me.

edit: I'm really bored at work. Thus, this topic.

edit of the edit: I doubt anyone is going to get mad at you for giving your opinion, and if so...fuck em.
Anyways, I think it all comes down to training as far as them getting into everything and jumping on counters and what not. My cats did that maybe the first month of them realizing they can jump on the counter. But after a little patience from me they stopped completely. I cook a lot as well, and they don't come near me when I am, and if they do, I just tell them to "bounce" and they leave. I think a lot of the time people are like..."cats can't be trained to listen" so they give up. Which is bullshit. Cats can be trained. I had a cat that would fetch. I also have cats that come inside when i just yell their names outside once. Sure cats maybe a bit more stubborn, because they are "freethinkers" if you will, but they can and do listen if you have a good relationship with them.
As far as the shedding.....yeah, it sucks. Can't do anything about it but vacuum a couple of times a week and thank the lint roller gods.
The litter box....yes cleaning the litter box can suck...only because it takes two minutes (if that) out of my day everyday. This way I avoid shit and piss building up so they don't have to step in it everytime they go in there.
Bringing home unwanted guests......it can suck, but out of the 13 years I have had cats, they have never brought one in the house. Just left it outside for us to show what they brought home for us out of love since they consider us part of the family and sort of a way to say, "dinners on me tonite".

Jokes are jokes, I think we know that.

The fact remains that there are many more, shall we say, anti-cat jokes than anti-dog.

That leads to the somewhat flimsey conclusion that cats are more widely hated than dogs. Or, at least more people make funny jokes about cats being killed than they do about dogs. The question is why.

Not that I'm trying to be rude, because I do appreciate your taking a stab at why you don't like cats, but your reasons are funny. Just as funny as my reasons for not liking dogs.

The thing is, BOTH animals have annoying circumstances. The question is: Whose shit are you predisposed to put up with? The cat's, or the dog's?

See, the thought that "most dogs don't shed" is funny as fuck. Because it's wrong. Even humans shed hair, I find my girl's hair all over the bathroom. But I don't let it bother me. Much like, for you, dog hair isn't a problem. Because you like them.
See, my cat is white. He has long hair. He sheds all over the fucking place. It is most certainly annoying, especially when I wear dark colors (as you might imagine). Since I like the cat, my solution is to buy a couple of lint rollers.
My buddy has two dogs. The little one has dark, fairly short hair. I never seem to notice it on me. The big dog is some kind of golden retriever mix thingy, her hair is blonde, and longer. That big ass animal is always getting fur all over me. I like her because she's so outgoing, and friendy, but that hair...
See, the joke's on me. Hair from one animal, no problem. Hair from the other, and I'm telling the damn dog to get off me.

That preferance naturally is going to make some behaviors more acceptable, while the same behaviors in another animal will not be.

Dogs are fun, outgoing, and fairly easy to read. Cats require both a little more, and a little less, involvement from the owner.

The question will remain: Whose shit are you choosing to ignore.

I like my cat. It's just sometimes you tell him to do something, and he gives you a look that says "Go to hell" and you're left with no other recourse then to throw a pillow at him.

well i am definantly a cat person (i have 2), and don't really like dogs too much. Although i love animals and the whole animal kingdom, i just prefer cats.
Has anyone seet Meet The Parents, with rob deniro and ben stiller?
Theres that great line about dogs being emotional sell outs, tho i can't specifically remember it. All animals are great, but i generally like cats more.

Also within a species, there are also personalities for animals, so its hard to generalise a species. With my 2 cats, one is clearly more confident than the other and also more outspoken and i guess more opionated.

I am a cat person as well. I dislike dogs. If you wanna talk about shedding, my boss has an old Chow Chow that is worse than any shedding cat imaginable. Hell, come to think ot it, a lot of dogs shed just as bad as cats, if not worse.

As far as crawling on the counters and such, that's what makes cats enjoyable - they are playful and agile. They can find themselves stuck up trees and all you can think is "awww... how cute"

The killing random animals thing is just so we cat owners can brag about how bad-ass our pets are.

I dont own a cat anymore, but I may get back into it later in life.

I hate all animals. They all get into your shit. Chew on it, piss on it, and shit on it. Lets not forget about all the hair that gets everywhere. I could go on, but you get the point.

I say I hate cats, but I really don't. I just odn't prefer them to dogs. We have both. Cats can just be so annoying. Dogs get the hint if you push them away or tell them to get off the bed. Cats act like they could care less what you want and you are there to serve them.

they don't call dogs man's best friend for nothing ya know

anyway, cats are just boring. I can tolerate them but I hate the litter box uugh.. and they just lay around and lick themselves and expect to be rubbed. They may play for about 5 minutes a day but only on their time. Whistle at a dog and he's ready to play as long as you can stand it. Cats are dirty too. Their mouths are gross. You can't say dogs have dirty mouths. They have enzymes in their saliva that kills germs and helps keep bacteria away. You're better off getting licked by a dog than a human. Ok so I'm pro-dog and hopefully I answered the question.

Yeah, that thing about dogs not shedding is just plain wrong. My best friend has this big ass bear looking dog, and that bitch gets hair ALL over the damn place. You can't even pet her. I just think cats are fucking hilarious. They just don't give a damn man. You could pick a cat up and throw him across the room really hard, and I bet if he could talk, he'd say, "I was headed this way anyway bro."

Cats just crack me up, I don't know why. And they're not all up in your biz-nazz like fucking dogs are.

i like cats.
i just can´t get close, since i´m very allergic to their fur.
which is a shame since they are usually so friendly to me - maybe they know and they´re just being cruel.

1) first off, i've never lived without a cat. ever.

2) i like them. they are just my least favorite

3) I'm the dude you think of who adopts like 93940293 animals if it needs a home

the reasons cats annoy me at times is as follows:

the are noisy. the only more annoying than a yammering cat is a yammering parrot who doesn't want to talk but decides to screech.

cats won't go away. sometimes its like: please go away kitty. rub rub...

they kill almost any and everything..
so on.

'People who like dogs are emotionally shallow; cats make you work for your affection and don't sell out like dogs do.'

Sounds about right.
