Often.
I tend to drink a lot when I'm working (usually at home and alone) which I find is a great way to kill time during the more tedious assignments. A glass of whiskey (or four) followed by a few beers and it does a great job getting me through the night without dying of boredom. Oddly I notice a stark difference between drinking alone and with friends (or I guess just standing near a crowd of people). Has anybody noticed a difference in the amount you drink by yourself as opposed to drinking with others? Just curious.

Why ruin a good drinking session with the presence of others?

No, I don't drink alone.
I don't really drink much at all--maybe once a month or every two months. I'll sometimes go three or more months without a drink. When I do drink, it could be as much as one or a few. Never "too much." I've been too drunk before, and now I'm naturally inclined not to do that anymore. I pace myself these days. I'm not against drinking alone, per se, but to me there is a distinct difference between having a drink or two on your own and being alone while you get drunk. But to me, drinking is a social thing--both alcohol and caffeine being "social binders/lubricants" and all that. Having a drink or two is fine. A nicely brewed beer or a nicely balanced wine can be enjoyable, especially when paired up with certain food. I get that. Having a drink, maybe even a shot of some liquor you enjoy, to take the edge off your hectic day...I get that too. What would worry me is drinking just to get drunk while no one else is around. I hope to never find myself in that place. My father nearly destroyed our family with his drinking, and my SO's family watched her grandfather drink himself to an early grave. So I guess it isn't so much whether you drink alone; it's whether you drink too much, and it largely depends on why you're drinking too I suppose.

I drank a lot alone quite often for many years.
I haven't had a drink in over 25 months.

Yes I will drink alone, not to get drunk, but what is the diffeance if the Dr. says here take a zanex before you go to bed-it will help you sleep, i am old, so now It is 2-3 glasses of wine or a zanex, to unwind, when young that would have been a no no-like I was drinking alone or popping pills & now Dr. tells me, like now their saying have a glass of wine 7 a chocolate Dr. says oh no maybe you should loose weight, as long as you know what you are doing who the hell cares-just make sure it is something you are aware of

I am with you tonight. Tired as hell, but my mind needed to slow down to match my body.
