Now that the pOrn is gone.....
....can we post pictures of kids ?
we all love kids and our children and grandchildren offer us many great pics and stories...xoxoxoo |
No, not yet. We're still discussing rule changes.
|
This is being discussed by staff right now. There is no promise that the rule will be lifted or even changed, but we're discussing it. We'll let you know when we have something that will work.
|
....and should I change my avitar???....xoxoxoo

the only part of "porn" that is gone is the EZ. TittyBoard et al was just moved to a different locale.. there is still plenty of porn on the site in other areas.. but not a blatant porn area.
so keep your NSFW avatars and your NSFW threads (in reason of course) and we'll get back to everyone soon about the pictures policy that is being discussed. |
hmmm. Maybe because it's been so ingrained since I've been a member (well, and before that, too)... but I just don't really like the idea of being able to post pics of kids here. *shrug*

I don't want to see kids on this board.
That's just asking for trouble. |
Yeah, I'm sorry, but I don't think pictures of kids belong on the board, especially if we plan on continuing to have NSFW threads and avatars. They just don't go together.
Perhaps a compromise could be reached by allowing pictures of minors in the blogs? |
I would not want to post pics of my kids on the board. Perhaps in my blog, but never on the board.
|
There is a lot of my "life" I cant share here and in the 6 years I've been there thats the one thing I've really disliked. I always have pics I'd like to post of our family adventures, and then cant, so no Im not against it if its done the way exhibition is, locked to outsiders and the way to see them is earned.
|
Are there any concerns apart from "getting in trouble?" (which I can assure you is not a realistic concern)
|
I don't have any particular concerns, really. I just don't think this is the place for posting pictures of my children. I cannot explain why, it's just a feeling. If other people want to do that, I am ok with that, I just don't want to post mine.
|
Whatever's posted or exchanged on the internet is free for the taking - not even watermarks or copyrights mean poop anymore (they can easily be removed.) Therefore the op needs to consider this when posting, whether it be here or some random blog somewhere.
There's a lot of innocent humor involving children. And I've been caught posting this sort of humor on numerous occasions here because I keep forgetting this odd rule lol. I'm sure I'm not the only one! As long as there's no child porn posted, there would be no 'trouble' in allowing images of kids on here. The most I've encountered in my forum days was being contacted by a family's attorney to please remove the graphic images of their dead and mutilated daughter (this obviously was not a humorous image.) Removed out of respect aaaand..... done. |
I think I would appreciate seeing photos of families/kids in perhaps personal albums and blogs, but not in threads. I think of those as separate, more private sections of the site.. maybe in threads in Members Playground?
|
If the kid pics are allowed I would like to see them limited to a specific area of the board. I have nothing against children and I'm sure that Little Bitzi is the cutest kid ever, but one of the things I always liked about TFP was the level of maturity and lack of exposure to baby-food faces. Nothing personal to anyone. I just don't want to see it here. But, it is a business decision so whatever is best.
|
I'm thinking that the posting of pictures of minors should be closely monitored. If a member wants to share shots of their own children or minor family members, that's one thing. But I wouldn't want to open a thread and see someone else posting photos of my kids, nieces or nephews, no matter how innocently, without my permission.
Images of minors should not be allowed for humor or nonsense threads, but if you've got a shot that's cute or funny that you'd like to share, we should provide a place for it. We could start by allowing some posting in Members Playground, or in properly secured blogs, to gauge interest and activity levels. If posting volumes warrant it, open a dedicated subforum, free from the prying eyes of random googlers or unproven new members. I see that a couple of others had similar thoughts posted while I was busy typing. |
I see pros and cons...as usual. One of the problems that I have with it is that the kids have no say in what is being posted. Now, most people aren't going to post anything too embarassing, but you always have..."that guy". Even on Facebook I'm very selective over what pictures that I post. My second ammendment wanted me to post a picture of him with the first fish that he caught. I did. But, he did have a say in it.
If it is allowed, I agree with restricted access. I also agree that it probably should be kept seperate from the boards. The Blogs could well be a good compromise. I kind of like that idea. Or...even a seperate board where all NSFW is not permitted, including avatars. I don't know if avatars can be disabled for specific boards (that's why we have people smarter than me around here) but, if it can, that could also be an option. |
Well I'm not going to start blogging just so I can post a funny gif of a baby falling down or something lol. I think you folks are more or less focusing on members posting images of their own kids. I have no kids. Just lots of funny / cute images of kids that I share on a whim. I think it'd be great if the rule could be lifted so if anything, we could laugh a little more.
|
I don't like pictures of people's kids. I don't like pictures period. I dislike baby pictures because I have to the whole "Oh, that's such a cute baby" crap when people show them to me. I don't why I have to congratulate someone on not pulling out. I am not anti-kids, nor am I pro-kids. I'm neutral til I help pop one out myself, then I'll be all LOOK AT THE FLESHLING I MADE!
That being said, unless we had a special thread for them in members, I wouldn't want them. I can see many different threads being posted about kids/family and clogging the board up. I am ok with pictures being posted in Blogs and Albums in blogs. I just don't want to see 10 posts about "Look how cute my podling is!!#@#!@@#@#!111" when I log in. Unless you made a separate protected forum like Tilted Family. Same requirements of members board and TE. |

I doubt that TFP would become a McPlayground if we allowed kid pictures.
I mean, you don't see thousands of threads on people's pets, and a bunch of us have those. |

Another facet is images of ourselves under the age of 18. Shanni has some picture of herself, when she was into Civil War Re-enacting, that she wanted to share with me. Because she was only 17 in those pictures, she could not. So, she e-mailed them to me. Trust me...you guys are missing out. They were, in a word, remarkable. She wanted to share them...it was her image, her choice...but she couldn't. Maleficent wanted me to post images of my high school prom. I gave the "excuse" that I was under the age restrictions. I wasn't going to post it anyway because no one needs to see me in a powder blue tux, ruffled shirt and platform shoes. Again...my image...my choice. |

Child porn = immediate ban. |
thank you BOR lol
I could totally go for just changing the rule to being allowed to post YOURSELF at under age 18 and leaving our children out of it. |
Shani, I was just going to say something about that.. I'd love to see a "look at me when I was a goofy kid!" thread or something like that. I have a few very cherished photos of me and my pony from when I was about 9 years old.. but can't share them here. :(
|
Personally, I don't see a reason for changing the rule at this point. In the blogs or a dedicated, restricted forum, maybe...at most.
---------- Post added at 02:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:13 PM ---------- the posting pictures of yourself idea, I would be ok with. |
What's up with the mysterious negative connotation with kid pics here? You guys are acting like Chris Hansen is waiting around the corner. As long as you don't post pics of your kids having sex with donkeys or something I don't get the problem. I thought it was a stupid rule to begin with but I understand the reason it was done. It should be lifted.
|
I'm in the 'blogs or somewhere restricted' camp. I would love to share my pics, but I sure as hell don't want them out there for any stranger to beat off to, thank you.
I'm not sure how our kids' photos will help the evolution of TFP. Post links to your Facebook when you want to brag on the kids. Pictures of yourself as a minor? I've no objection, but who does the policework? It would change the fiber and focus (whatever that might be ) of TFP and open a whole can of worms. How far do we want to go? |

Or is that the nature of the evolution here at TFP? Maybe now that many of the originators of the site have children now, it's only natural that things move this way? I'm just thinking here. What do you think? |
One of the reasons I've been a member here is because it's one place in the world where I'm not being forced to look at pictures of everybody's kids. I'm glad you think they're adorable; I'm happy for you being happy with them. And I wish them all well.
But speaking frankly, and meaning no disrespect - I really don't care if they had a birthday, made a goofy face, or graduated from pre-school . If those kinds of things interested me, I'd have had kids of my own. They don't; I didn't. Now - if you want to make a special forum section for sharing that kind of stuff, by all means - I'm all for it. I'm sure I won't be missed if I don't visit. In fact, go ahead and replace the EZ with it. I even promise not to complain about a section of the TFP I never visit. |
The best way I can think to explain it is this: TFP is my "grownup time." I love kids. I'm sure yours are adorable. Heck, I'm sure YOU were adorable... but. Grownup time.
|
I feel there's no reason to keep pointless rules. This certainly doesn't need a rule - communities tend to work these things out. The porn thing? Sure. Kiddie pics? I don't care for them. No reason to clutter the codex.
|
wheres pedobear/bear cub when you need him.
personally I vote "No" not that this is a community driven democracy or anything. I vote anyway! |
If I don't want to read about thoughts on town hall meetings, I don't click on the link devoted to that topic. If I don't want to look at or comment on a picture of a kid, presumably I wouldn't have to. In my adult life, I'm able to talk look at children, talk about children, AND talk about topics unrelated to children. Why would it be any different here?
|
My goal is to have as few rules as possible while maintaining the site's ability to foster good intellectual conversation and variety.
