A prevailing sentiment seems to be: "I don't want to talk about kids or pictures of kids. I also want restrict the ability of others to talk about those topics as well."
I agree with Schwan's sentiment - why restrict something if you don't have to. If topics with pictures of kids are not popular, no one will comment and the community will sort itself out. |
You wanna talk? How about this: I don't like kids and don't want to see them on the place I spend 3+ hours a day on.
... IMO, certain rules prevent the erosion of the board. Posting kids... okay... posting teenagers... okay... posting teenagers in scantily clad outfits... See where I'm going with this? See how easy it is to avoid if the 18+ only rule is in place? |
Everyone's deathly afraid of "slippery slopes" - its getting quite amusing.
If they give an inch here, we'll eventually be living in HELLLLLLL. |
Crompsin - you could apply that logic to any rule. That's where the human factor (mods) comes in.

No-no, maybe we talk about guns and someone kills their spouse. You're losing me here, bro. I'm not a genius. ... "Human factor" smells like an excuse to allow a free for all. 4Chan'd! |

The gradation you proposed as an example - the scantily-clad teenager thing - can happen either with the no kids rule in place, or without it. It would just work the other way around. Imagine if the rule is in place and someone posts a barely dressed girl and says it's his sister. Someone will point out the no-kid rule, to which the poster can reply "She just turned 18!". How would you know? Either way, a mod is there to weed this out, just as they are doing it now (thus, the human factor thingm though I admit, it's all human factor in a sense, arghh, brain melt). Edit for clarification |

Regardless of how cute you may believe them to be, I don't ever want to see another thread or avatar dedicated to your pets.
Should we have a rule against this as well? |
Okay, so somebody explain why kids are banned again? Small words... for me. Why kids are banned right now? Just say it again for the crowd.

I take this conversation to mean:
We understand that the world is filled with divergent ideas from mine. We understand that the TFP attempts to be a microcosm of what the world could be if everyone was smarter. We understand that in this microcosm, divergent ideas still exist. We understand that because of convenient compartmentalization techniques knows as "forums" and "threads" we are able to avoid topics that we are not willing to be exposed to. ---------- Post added at 04:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:39 PM ---------- Quote:

I stand corrected.
|
I'm all for everybody doing whatever they want. I don't know doodly about the legal responsibilities associated with running a site.
Above, Halx stated the "reason" and that seems solid enough for me. Let's keep pictures of rug rats away from pictures of bouncing tits. My opinion stands as previous, but I'm not gonna cry about it when you all start posting pictures of your goofy grandkids in those Mickey Mouse ears. |
I fucking hate children.
|
From what I'm reading, it would seem to be a no-brainer. Those that hate kids can just steer clear of a specific area or thread. Those who want to keep their kids separate don't have to post their kids. And if there are no legal ramifications for Halx, there's no problem.
I'm not ass kissing here, but this is his baby and so far he's done just fine. As a collective, we've always trusted his judgment, oui? Is he a visionary, maybe? ;) As for monitoring content (as far as underage porn goes), I don't think it falls solely on Admin. As members of the TFP community, it's our responsibility to report when we see something we know is wrong. |
For my part, my objection is not pictures of kids on the site, per se. I love taking pictures of my daughter and I post them everywhere BUT here. If the rules were changed, I would most likely post pictures of her here.
Crompsin sort of hit on my reservations about the subject. And maybe it's not fair or wrong or hyperbolic, what have you, but I am seeing photos of 'hot' sixteen years olds posted and folks making comments at will with no 'rules' about underaged content. Fuck, a certain percentage of photographs on the titty board are of women who look to be underage, let's talk frankly. It's not really a trend I look towards with enthusiasm. Enough to uphold the longstanding rule against under-18 content? Yes. ---------- Post added at 05:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:22 PM ---------- that said, I do trust the moderation of this board, and go along happily with whatever decision is made. |
I could care less whether we can post kids on this site or not. The only things it would do for me is save me time coloring over kids in the background with MSPaint in some of my pictures, and it would allow me to post in the "Post Yourself Way Back When", or whatever, thread. No big deal.
|
meh. I can ignore the posts with everyone's offspring same as I can the ones with their cats they think are so special and unique.
That and I can't see the need to post a picture of my nieces or grandchildren on the forum where I read about fisting, ball shaving, sex toys, fetishes and tits. |
While we're at it, can we have a forum to discuss our pets? Maybe call it Tilted Pets or something wacky like that?
|
For the record, anyone crossing my personal threshold of the definition of an innappropriate comment will get to have a long, drawn-out conversation with me about why they think they get to remain a member of this site. Assuming that I don't ban them outright and apologize to Halx later, regardless of who they are, how long they've been around and if they're a big donor or not. So that "wow, your 17 year-old daughter is HOT!" comment means that you're probably looking at a ban screen and having to email Halx to get it undone.
Just so you know. And IF this happens, it's would be on a trial basis, and I'll get to be the Grumpy Gus that gets to delete all the pictures afterwards. So I'll be reading each and every one of those comments. And reacting accordingly. Just so you know. |
Hey, no grunting in the weight room.

But in an attempt to contribute something, ah, worthwhile to this thread, a picture is worth a thousand words, and sometimes that picture is a toddler holding a beer can and flipping off the camera. |
What Hath God Wrought....sorry I brought it up....xoxoxoo
|
I'd be up for it. I wouldn't look at the threads much, but I'd love to see you guys when you were goofy little boogers.
I feel like I know this forum, and I know that we're not Today's Parent or any of that BS. Slippery slope isn't really that slippery. |
Think the joke will fall flat, so no more.

Think of it like this, you have a right to post yourself but not others. That way, exploitation of any sort is no one else's fault except yourself.

my response was to those that may not want kids in this place. this spot is Halx's...he can do what he wants....if we don't like it, don't click it....common sense to me....
|
Whatever.
I like the concept of posting our kids' pictures but I don't understand the parents' concerns. I probably will understand when I'm a parent. Either way it won't affect my traffic to TFP, hell this board is almost a religion in terms of my web routine. If something changes, I'm staying. If nothing changes, I'm staying. LOVE TFP. |
