Huh? I take it you're leaving?
These threads never go well. Edit: I read your post in the politics forum and while I can understand the desire to leave after feeling like you've been unfairly warned, this is bad form. If you care enough then put it out there to be discussed. If not, why even announce your departure?

Hmm?
What's going on here? What did I miss? Prison? How much time? Where? Can we write? Need a 5 buck deposit for some Hanes and Fruit Roll Ups? Soap on a Rope? I got friends. Oreos? Lucky Strikes? They are money in prison. Don't get any tattoos! Those ink pens are poison, we'll help with those tattoos on release. Hold your fork firmly, and look mean. Try - plastic forks make it hard I know. Chugg Kool-Aid before your surrender, it's all you get to drink besides water and it makes great alcohol, with bread and fruit of course. We'll miss you!! |

I never wanted to discuss Dem Vs. Rep. But it happened. I have serious hatred for Bush, Cheney, Palin, O'Reilly, Rush, etc. To me, they are very anti-American. To them, I should be summarily executed because of my views. The funny thing is, I spent 8 years in the USAF, 6 of them in Special Operations. I know that GW did a GREAT job keeping the North Vietnamese out of Texas, but as far as I know, please, other than McCain, name a Republican who served.

Um.. apparently someone is either being a drama queen or hasn't visited our politics board.
There are plenty of those who disagree with all sides of the political spectrum. We just like to have intelligent debates here.

And that's really why I should just go. Being warned for saying how I felt, when I was offended by how others felt? Yeah. Bye.
---------- Post added at 07:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:39 PM ---------- Nope, not that people disagreed with me. It's the fact that I got an "Official TFP Warning" about it.

Also, having read that thread, all I saw from the OP was repeated attempts to derail the thread before he felt it got ugly. Wyodiver33, seems you don't understand how the politics forum works but is that really worth leaving in a huff over?

I don't wish to see you abandon us. Hopefully you can adapt your online persona to withstand a fair bit of criticism, because you stand to lose a whole in real life if you can't do so in an environment you can relatively control yourself. Clear your head abit if need be, but please do not announce your departure if you seek to go; it draws unwelcome attention to something that is better left forgotten, and is just a ploy by someone who needs to make it all them. I don't attribute that trait to you at all.

You got your first warning? Welcome to the Club. I mean, I'm not in that club, but I probably could have been. Well, there was the time I posted the pic of Gary Coleman from his days on Different Strokes, but perhaps that's a bit different...Regardless, I'd suggest that if you like the TFP, but got a warning one time from one of the mods, then just let it go man...because it's already gone. There's no reason to simply leave the forum. In fact, I'd humbly suggest starting a thread that captures what you were laying down in the Politics / Palin thread, and see where it goes. Things are generally fairly wide open around here, but you have to stay on target within a given thread. You can't threadjack your own thread...Getting an official TFP Warning shouldn't send you running. Stick around.
You know, or haul ass. Sometimes you just gotta move on. That's your call. But I'd hate to see you leave over this.

I am not sure that there is a poster here who has been a member since 2003 like you have who didn't get any Official TFP Warnings. The Nazi regime (spare me the godwin comments) has been reworked, thankfully.
Take one of these: And come back tomorrow with a fresh head.

BOO HOO.
seriously. you got a warning.. not a banning. We all get offended by things every day.. so either learn how to accept that people have different views or stay in a hole. Learn how to respond to those people who have different views or get a *GASP* warning on an internet forum. this is the worst emo thread ever. |

The mods here aren't perfect (sorry guys & gals) but I have a lot more faith in them than that. I refuse to believe, at your word, you were warned for "saying how I felt, when I was offended by how others felt". Although these things are difficult to tell after the fact as often times those posts are modded (maybe we should stop doing that, leave them in tact with notes for clarity, though it's not like the rules are unclear), I'm betting there is substantially more to it that 'saying how you felt'. You feel you were wrongly treated? Fine - but packing up and going home is poor form. Talk to the mod who warned you, or another mod, hell PM the big man himself, they'll look into and fix it if there was a mistake. It's not like a warning is that big of a deal, the ban stick is still in the closet. For future reference, I would stay away from posting these types of threads. I've yet to see one garner any sympathy for anyone, and they tend not to make you a lot of friends (quite the opposite in fact). Post Script: The tonality of this is difficult, when I read it I think I sound like I'm being a dick, not my intention, just trying offer some insight.

Nah, politics just have to be reasonably discussed.
Hell I got slapped when I told another TF'er to "go F- yourself". He called men in uniform murderers, rapists, and a couple off other nice things. I happened to be a man in uniform at the time, and got the 3 day no posting slap. He's not here anymore, and I never apologized. Other than that, very good discussions on this forum have occured.

I don't understand. This thread is an extension of a temper tantrum which started in politics and has now spilled over here.
When I saw the Palin Thread I didn't even read it because I knew it would be incendiary. I just checked it out due to this thread and it was as expected. Your posts remind me of Jack Black in Tropic Thunder: Jeff Portnoy: Your mother's a cankerous whore! Kevin Sandusky: Jesus, man! Jeff Portnoy: Hey, man, remember way back when I said your mother was a cankerous whore? I'm sorry, man. I did not mean that. She's not. You seem so riddled with hate that rather than discuss your opinions, you post that you are about to blow up, you blow up, then you apologize. Rinse, wash and repeat. I have to admit that I won't miss that kind of post if you look for greener pastures elsewhere. When you did post on the topic (I only read the first few pages before I grew bored) you focused almost entirely on how much you hated various republicans, hoped they would die, were the incarnation of evil, etc. That is some scary, hateful stuff and I wouldn't be surprised if I read about you in a newspaper in a couple months. Why the hate? Why do you so personally despise people associated with the republican party, while seemingly at least, not the democratic politicians who are every bit as corrupt? How can you possibly hate Sarah Palin so much? The same cult of personality that made her popular put Obama in office. I will give you that she is not a very good politician, and I wish she would fade back into obscurity, but I dont' hate her. She is a woman who really was doing a good job during the brief time she was governor of Alaska. She was offered an opportunity for something way over her head and she went for it. I can't fault her for that though I am perfectly willing to talk about how silly her stated positions and political 'persona' are. It is a basic fact in politics that the truly honest, concerned candidates get weeded out by the simple fact that the truth and honesty doesn't get very many votes. This is true for both sides. I can't stand Obama, but I won't stoop to calling him names, and while I disagree with his political views with every fiber of my being I don't hate the guy. Also, FYI, I have a personal problem with people who throw out the fact they have served as some sort of shield to justify their beliefs; or as if military service somehow automatically makes your political views patriotic or more correct. When somebody uses the "I'm a veteran" defense it forces other people to either back off or get in a pissing contest about their service. Not necessary or helpful unless the discussion is about, say, life as a soldier. Kudo's for managing to work in the fact that you were in 'special ops.' The Military has just as many nuts and bad apples as society as a whole, service is all well and good, but it is just a job and most people serve for reasons other than blind patriotism (or pay-raises and signing bonuses would not be necessary). Since we are talking about our feelings I felt I should share a few of mine. Good night.

I knew better than to get myself into a political discussion on the TFP. It's just not the place for it. It's not the moderators, it's the fact that political debates can go angry so fast. I never wanted that to happen.
I still have strong feelings about this stuff, but I will never, ever, voice them here. Kind of a shame that I have to feel that way, huh? But that's fine. Hands off of the politics. I don't want to cause any trouble.

Dude, there is a big difference between:
I think Sarah Palin is incompetent, dishonest, etc. and here is why........... and: "Palin is an idiot. Republicans are idiots. Pro-lifers are idiots. Anti-stemcell people are idiots. People who think the Earth is only 6000 years old are idiots. People who doubt global warming are idiots. Sarah Palin is a friggin' moron. I kind of begged you guys to not get me involved here. She's dumb as a box of rocks and well on her way to getting her GW Bush Corruption Merit Badge. She lives in the last really beautiful state but sees all critters as a pain in the ass." Even though you are pissed I am sure you can see the difference. A post like the latter one automatically precludes any reasonable, intelligent debate from that point forward as the thread has stepped away from all level-headed discourse and become a thread about insults. I typically stay out of politics because it is very heated, but at least most of the posters make an attempt to back up their opinions.

Um... ok this is going to come across as much more confrontational as I want it to, but regardless. If you can't control your own emotions in a political discussion, and retain respect for those who disagree with you, then stay away. As I see it that's a thing you have to work out internally.

Sorry, not tonight.
I have to get up for work in the morning (yes I know it's Sunday), but I will try to follow up here tommorrow. I don't have thin skin and by criticizing you I have invited anything you have to say in return (so long as it is at least a little civil). If you have something to say which you can't put out on an open thread then PM me. Have a good night. Slims
