Yes but do you want sunshine or gloomy rainy days? Calgary has the most sunshine anywhere. And there is nothing better than running outside in the middle of winter in your shorts, when a chinook blows through.

if you want to have a culturally diverse fast-paced lifestyle, move to Toronto

the east coast of canada is like anywhere on the northern / east coast of the states



take a 1 week vacation to vancouver or toronto before you consider moving there ... check it out, drive an hour out of the city into the suburbs and check everything out, and have someone who lives in the area show you around too

in toronto the summers go from april to october, with about 1 month of spring/fall, and three months of winter

you might get one week of -really- cold weather [-20 celcius], but that's not the winter norm

usually it's anywhere between freezing and -10 celcius .. which isn't bad at all [perfect for outdoor football]

Well I live in San Diego so yeah I think if I move ANYWHERE else the weathers not going to be as nice. But I like the vacation idea. I'll have to do that when I get enough money!

Ottawa is also a great to live to place to live and to raise a family. The vast majority of the people living here are friendly and helpful. You can think of Ottawa as being dull and boring (unfortunately not a lot to do in the city regarding nightlige), but it provides you with the things one might take for granted such as good quality of life and low crime rate. Also we are in the middle between Montreal and Toronto so both cities are within 2-5 hours drive, respectively. The major drawback: it gets really cold in the winter so it will take some time to adjust.

Don't dwell on the weather too much. Just accept it as part of your environment and get on with living and enjoying the part of the world you live in. Cold weather ain't that bad, all you need to do is dress for the occasion.
Drive North and check it out, you might like what you find.

I live in Canada, and I wish I could move to Calgary Alberta, or somewhere in that direction. I'm in Thunder Bay, Ontario right now and it kinda sucks.

Stay as far away from Winnipeg as you can. I'm an 8 hour drive from there and I feel dirty.

i've lived in both halifax and vancouver, and been everywhere else in between.
almost every city ive been to in canada is really nice, (althought there seemed to be an extrodanary amount of bums in toronto), so its really a question of the size of city youd like to live in
The most jobs are on the west coast, but i belive youd enjoy living just about anywhere, although you may have some trouble adapting to quebec, where the majority of people speak french, and the culture is much different (and everybody smokes!!!!)
another major thing you have to consider about canada is the weather
i really hope you dont mind cold winters if you plan on moving here
that being said, while i lived in vancouver i think it only snowed twice all winter, and was gone by the next day
mostly all rain there, and the ski hills that get tons of snow are just a couple hours away if that, its fantastic

lol that may be a little harsh,but ya i wasnt very impressed by winnipeg and it gets COLD up there
like freeze to death in minutes cold or i cant go to school/work cause my car's engine is frozen cold

Canada is a great place to live. I recommend a smaller city near Toronto because it is cheaper and nicer, but puts you in commuting distance.

Edit* I moved a part down to where you won't see it if you don't want to read it. Sorry if I got too far ahead of myself.

The main thing that might bother you at first about Canada is the taxes. I recently went to Philadelphia and I was shocked at how low (or non-existant) the taxes were. The only place like that in Canada is Alberta, where all of their oil profits keep the tax low. I personally think that travelling in Canada is better because I like our highways better, and there aren't pesky toll booths everywhere to steal your pocket change. The only toll route I know of around here is the 407 but it isn't really even a toll. They take a picture of your license plate as you go through and they send you a bill. You don't even need to take it, it's just a lower traffic alternate route to take.

I don't know if you want to reveal this or not, but what type of job would you be looking for here? It would help in determining where the best place to live is because different areas specialise in certain job markets.

I know this probably didn't cross your mind, but if you are thinking of living in Canada for a very long time, and you plan to have kids here, read the below.

I don't know if this will factor into your decision or not, but Southern Ontario (where Toronto is) is a great place to raise children. It has a huge cluster of good Universities (and colleges) specialising in almost anything. Note that there are big differences between University and College in Canada, so the terms cannot be used interchangeably here. That plus the free healthcare (paid for by higher tax, but I think it's worth it) and generally good condition of most public schools makes raising kids easier. The public school system here is good and the Conservative government in Ontario has made it so parent's who send their children to private school get some tax money back (like $1000) to pay for it so both are options. I personally think the public school system is good enough. You will notice that the gap between rich and poor here is much smaller. I think that is a good thing. It might be why we have overall less crime.

Canada has alot to offer. All over the place....eh! Everywhere there is a hidden paradise. Even in Saskatchewan there are so many beautiful places to live, and the lifestyle is very laid back with wide open spaces.

By far I love Alberta the best. It has alot to offer anyone who would ever want to explore this great province. Mountains, lakes, prairies, with a very laid back attitude.

Edmonton is primarily a blue collar city, as Calgary is mainly a white collar city. I lived all over the place, and I would have to say that Calgary is amazing. Beautiful summers, mostly mild winters, and very close to the mountains and lakes. The majority of the people all over this great country are very friendly, accepting, and love to party.

We are overflowing with national pride, and enjoy sharing it with anyone who wants to take it in. I am sure you would be pleasantly suprised with anyplace you choose to see.

I would like to see a polar bear some day. They look so cool on the Discovery Channel. Canada has some polar bears, but they are mostly up north. Sometimes one swims down to Newfoundland I hear.

I have been to Canada several times. It is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly, even to a big obnoxious redneck like me. I could definitely live there.

I guess I should be happy I live in such a great city.

Calgary is getting a little large for its own good now though.. We're at.. around 930 000 people, I believe, and the roads are waaaay too congested.
