Women who stare...
Okay one thing that I always find interesting and it is definitley noticeable at places such as your local mall is the amount of women that stare at other women...especially in the younger female category. I've noticed it when I was with this one girl in the mall the other day and as we walked by I checked the other girls eyes and the other girl was not "checking her out" but rather almost sizing her up.
If you haven't noticed this phenomenon when you realize it I find it almost hilarious. Its like they are competing in their looks and what not. i'm not saying that males dont' do this either but I do think females in the greater sense of it are actually pretty darn mean to one another and very competitive...opinions ladies? |

truer words have never been spoken. Personaly i dont 'size' another girl up perse...but rather...notice her attractiveness and turn green with envy...but if that were the case...i'd look like the hulk's cousin. Most girls look but dont take it seriously and forget about it right after.
As well it seems as if the more a girl looks like she pays attention to her looks [ie. a layer of make up for grocery shopping etc] the bitchier she gets about another girl's looks. Man, there are girls with total attitude problems, it's scary...

It's never clear even to me whether I'm checking someone out or sizing her up. When I see a very attractive woman I'm never sure whether I want to HAVE her or BE her. Generally if I end up petulant I'm sizing her up and comparing myself unfavorably. If I end up thinking that she looks like fun, I'm checking her out. Makes my husband happy (see the "two women" thread ).

mhm..i'd say def. women are competitive (which makes sense to me from a purely animalistic primal viewpoint anyways).
and i suspect that, as such, it continues, to some degree at least, whilst a woman is of childbearing age. and aside from that... Quote:

I'm always looking at other females thinking, my god what was she thinking going outside with that on today, or hmm, I could wear that top with my green skirt, or I bet if she lost 10 pounds she could pull off that look....
I think females put more importance on appearances, and can be rather judgemental about others' appearances. |

Oh how true this is. I would say that when I was in my teenage years it was more of a sizing her up. I was on a major "knock the chip off my shoulder" stage then and low on self confidence. Since I've learned more about myself and my abilities and achievements I'm not so worried about how I look and mostly when I'm staring like that I'm checking them out if they look interesting. If they don't look attractive to me though I usually just pass over. I think a lot of the reason for the stare depends on your personal confidence. It's nice now not to feel in competition with every woman walking around. Hubby loves it when I'm checking out the other women - like 2 days ago when we saw this woman with the longest pair of slim legs. Mmm I caught my Dad looking even.

guys dont do this.
first, i dont really even think if a guy is "attractive". second, if he's well built, i'd try to stare away

I guess i haven't noticed it as much as the rest of you, but i have seen it. Girls will talk about it too with their galpals...they get down to the details too.
i also agree with the_dude that guys don't do this. the last thing a guy wants is to be caught checkin out another guy. In fact i've never even heard of a straight guy commenting on how some other guy looks....it just doesn't happen
