35W bridge in MN caused by gays? Fuck Fred Phelps!

From the article

Quote:
35W Bridge Collapse Caused by Gays

That odious weasel Fred Phelps and his gang of miscreants are planning to protest at the funerals of the people killed when the 35W bridge collapsed recently in the US. Why? Well, to explain to the families of the bereaved, by means of picketing, that God killed their loved ones in revenge for America’s wanton tolerance of homosexuality, of course.

Apparently the signs that the protesters will be waving will include comments such as “God hates fags” and “Thank God for 9/11″.

I believe Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church are the perfect argument that God is either non-existent, or an utter bastard.
Fred Phelps and his church are also the people that picketed soldiers funerals, much to the grief and dismay of families who lost their servicemembers overseas. Can someone just shoot this fucker already? I'm sure God himself has a few choice words for him. Man, the fact that this s-o-b hasn't been a victim of divine retribution makes me think there really must be no god!

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that there is a God.

He "gets away with this" because of free will...but will burn in hell.

Shani, Fred Phelps thinks that God made you want to puke because He hates teh gays.

FP on his best day is a sideshow attraction, nothing more. He markets himself that way.

Really, in this associational society of ours, it takes almost no effort at all to ignore a person, corporation, entity....is it all that hard to ignore this guy? I could care so much more about this guy, but I don't.

Everyone has opinions; it is up to you, the intellectual, to surface the important messages made by the rational scholars so as not to get bogged down by the mass of an entire society's take on any given issue.

Be wise.

Oh goody, a Jerry Falwell wannabe. Whatever happened to "love one another"? Perhaps someone should torture him to death all the while saying it is acceptable because there are gay people. What a moron, what an utter nincompoop.

This actually makes me feel bad for the christians that are worth a darn- and that takes some doing!

i don't give a shit about his message, but protesting funerals is just so crass that an asswhipping seems entirely appropriate.

God wouldn't have destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah if there had been ten righteous people. Excluding the estranged children, Phelps has 90 family members in his church. This means that at least 81 of the family are not righteous, otherwise God's precedent of not allowing the destruction of places with more than 10 righteous people would be null and void, and an omnipotent being can't be wrong.

Fred Phelps makes me want to rethink my decision not to post on the "Who would you pick" thread. This guy is a cancer on the world. It's hard to ignore a group of people standing across the street yelling "god hates fags" at some mother's funeral. Karma is a bitch, sometimes it just takes a little while to catch ya. It'll catch up with him though. Have faith.

Impervious? I don't think so.

Instant Karma's gonna get you,
Gonna knock you right on the head,
You better get yourself together,
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead,
What in the world you thinking of,
Laughing in the face of love,
What on earth you tryin' to do,
It's up to you, yeah you.
(From John Lennon's Instant Karma)
I don't really know who Fred Phelps is. But I'm guessing he's a pretty miserable guy. Imagine living with that?

The reason "karma" hasn't caught up with him:

karma can't think of a good (bad?) enough punishment to make up for the relentless avalanche of insanity that pours from his lips and into the thoughts and actions of his followers.

That would be fantastic.

I feel sorry for Phelps... he is clearly mentally ill. But with his hateful doctrine, everyone hates him so much that all they think is "What a bastard" and not about why he's doing this. The Wikipedia article goes into some detail with respect to what his expatriated family members have said about him. He needed help a long time ago and never got it. Well, I don't really feel _sorry_ for him per se, but I do think he needs to be institutionalized along with his daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper.
