"This post brought to you by..."
So I'm sitting here listening to the Leafs game on NHL Radio and the Leafs take a penalty. The play-by-play guy proceeds to tell me that "This Leaf penalty kill is brought to you by {insert company.}" What the fuck is that all about? It's bad enough that when I watch the games on tv that each period is brought to me by {insert company.} What's next? "This goal is brought to you by..." "This 3-2 pitch is brought to you by..." "This tackle is brought to you by..."
What the hell does "brought to you by" even mean? Just tell me that "{This company} has paid us money to tell you about them." At the time of this post the Leafs have taken 4 penalties so I've heard this "brought to you by" crap 4 times. It's ridiculous. Not everything needs to have a corporate sponsor. Does this bother anyone else when they're watching/listening to sports or is it just me? -Tamerlain

Yea, it's pretty disgraceful. I think the worst infractions are stadium names and names for events (Ex-Lax Shit Bowl, or what have you). Then broadcasters are obligated to recite the full name every time they refer to it. Gah, it's horrible.
I'm from Baltimore, and I often take pride in the fact that Camden Yards was one of the last (if not *the* last) venue to escape the clutches of a corporate name.

Moskie (love that avatar, ahhaha), just call it by it's real name. Monster Park in SF is simply Candlestick Park. Always had been, always will be. McAfee is really just the Oakland Coliseum. US Airways Center in Phoenix is simply the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum (or just Memorial Coliseum).

Yeah corporate stadium names are awful. Especially when the stadium had such a good name before it was changed. I don't know anyone who refers to the Skydome as the Rogers Centre. It will always be the Skydome to me.
Corporate event names are awful too. Can you imagine the "Mastercard Stanley Cup Finals?" I cringe just writing that. -Tamerlain

Something about all the crap on a NASCAR vehicle actually seems OK, I'm not a fan, but I think they would look silly without them.
Anywho, I had noticed the same thing last season with Angels baseball games on the radio. "This call to the bullpen is brought to you by... X." I always thought it was cool when a pitcher went the whole 9 innings and the sponsor never got their plug in. The movie Major League 2 has a funny segment on sports sponsors, cannot remember it specifically, but it made me laugh at the time.
